  1. I'm a long time hockey fan and player.  The brand of hockey we now have in the NHL regular season is incredibly boring to me.  There's no intensity in the games anymore and it's rare to find physical play.

Most games have the atmosphere of a pre-season scrimmage.

    Playoffs are a different matter.

As a sports fan viewing on TV, soccer is by far the best.  It has the strategy/mental component to the game that baseball does, while retaining the fluidity and action of hockey.

Zero commercials too, a brief halftime, and you know just how long it will take, more or less, to play the game...and it's not all freaking afternoon.

4 hour + baseball games these days are common.  That's absurd.

Football games are way too long and are literally a 3 + hour commercial that is interrupted, briefly, now and again, by the game of football.

  2. In America the left lane is usually plugged up by some slow driving idiot in a SUV refusing to look in his mirror or get the hell out of the lane.

Ironically, the lane furthest to the right is often the fastest.

There is zero lane discipline in this country and in general, I find driving on American highways kind of scary.  You never know what anyone is going to do, cars move in all directions, and half the drivers are asleep at the wheel or doing something other than focusing on driving.

Yes, this is a huge pet peeve of mine.

Anyway, I don't touch the sc hit.  You wanna see me hopped up on coffee/caffeine????

Wife & Daughter are coffee snobs, that's bad enough!

That coffee pot, aside from the plastic/glass "Knob" at the top, looks like every coffee pot in every cowboy movie ever made.

It's the one sitting on top of the camp fire.  Gotta have your coffee when you are on a long ride.

On a somewhat related note, has anyone ever noticed how in cowboy movies you will often see a cowboy on a long ride, somewhere in the desert or very arid environment....he's been riding for hours.....all sweaty, dusty, and worn out....comes into some tiny town....heads straight into the tavern and orders "whisky."

I always found that kind of funny.  If I was dehydrated and sweating my ass off in 90+ ambient temps, I'm not sure the first thing I'd think of would be to throw back a shot of whisky, but I'm not a cowboy.

Yeah. I'm basically giving it until Saturday. See if things blow over by then. That's why I'm venting here.

Be careful who you are marrying.  No offense to you or your fiancé as I know neither of you at all, but people should be judged by the company they keep in my opinion.

This "best friend" sounds like a really low quality individual, and she's your fiancé's best friend?  Or at least was thought as much for some amount of time?

These are warning flags my friend!

It's up to you to sort it out and make sure you're marrying the right woman.  If you are, the "best friend" needs to be removed from the picture.

It would be more effective for your fiancé to take care of that instead of you.

A lot of you don't get it. Its not that they are losing that is upset them. Its the kind of football that is being played and not being competitive in games is another. In an era where offense is easy to come by and going that many games without a TD is embarrassing. Thats what a lot of fans are upset with.

Shhh.  These people only see the world in severe black and white terms.  There is no room for subtlety or sophistication in their thought patterns.  It's part of what makes them knuckle draggers and mouth breathers.

    You're wasting your keystrokes.

I think the overall plan for the year is to be a bad year as they make room for next year. But I think the game plan for the team is still to win games with what they've got.

    That's self contradictory.

It would help if the OP defined his terms.

Everyone has a different idea of what "tank" means and in that sense, it's not really a useful term.

    or

We should never have drafted a QB until we had the pieces to put around him!!!!!!!!

They're all the same according to you, huh?

A team just needs to go to the franchise QB store and buy one, and any one is as good as another?  Right?

EJ was the only QB I can remember recently marching down the field like a boss to win a game with a TD in the last two minutes, at Carolina.

On that drive he threw a pass directly to a Carolina DB who dropped the ball despite it being an easy catch.  That tends to get forgotten in the aftermath, but drops are a part of the game.

EJ even hit on the long ball once in a while.  He did some nice things.  Horrible QB on balance.

Bills fans have been served rotten garbage for an entire generation under the label "dinner."

It's gotten to the point where a lot of them don't remember what a well cooked meal tastes like.

    And who can blame them!

That’s the hope to trade down and snag a receiver or Jonah Williams in the 10 to 15 range, though I think Williams rises

It's kind of funny how people don't seem to understand that we are a quarterback hungry team as well.

We should be using our own Top 3 pick to maybe even move up (depending on lots of stuff that can't be determined right now) and get a top QB prospect ourselves.

The time for grabbing the QB is when you are picking high and don't have one already.

    That describes the Bills perfectly.

The Op's comparison is about as close as planet pluto. It was hilarious!!

And when you consider Pluto is not a planet anymore, the comparison is even further removed from reality!

Allen and Peterman won't be around much longer.  This thing is going to implode next year when Allen doesn't progress and then McBeane, Allen, and Peterman won't be around.

Other than that, the Allen/Peterman combo looks great.

My biggest sticking point is two head coaching hires that want to run first and lean on the defense.

That’s just not what the league is anymore, and hasn’t been for a while, and they should have realized it after Rex.

    That’s on ownership.

And if Terry is going to keep personal interviewing and deciding who the HC is, it may not even matter if he fired everyone tomorrow....he'd just repeat the same mistakes again.  Presumably.

He is a very low information sports fan who needs someone really smart and informed telling him what to do and advising him every step of the way.  As long Pegula does not have that and assumes he know what he's doing, I predict he will be prone to repeating the same mistakes.

We are already seeing some evidence of that.

You run around calling people you don't know liars, and others are the three year olds?

What Mcd said?  First of all I was not in the room.  What I think he would say to his veterans is that they want to be competitive both short term and long term, with the goal of being a franchise that is consistently competing for titles year in and year out.  I think that's a safe presumption because that is what the HC and GM have said pretty much since they were hired.

This year things went wrong.  The QB that they were brining in to be the veteran presence didn't cut it.  And yes, when they traded him they should have got another guy in.  Perhaps you did not see it this weekend but Beane said that.  And I think players appreciate candor from the coaches and front office when they screw something up.  LIke McD did when he talked to the team after starting Peterman against the Chargers.

I don't think they told anyone they weren't going to be good this year.  So if that's your position then the rest of your stuff falls flat.  They have not gotten the performance they wanted out of the offense.  Absolutely true.  And those decisions are on them, also true.  The one thing they have made no secret about, to players and owners and fans alike, is that they felt they had to get out from under some bloated contracts, so they took a big cap hit this year.

Wait, so everything isn't going perfectly according to plan?

Watch Tom Brady’s game winning drive in February 2002 Super Bowl 36. I’ve never seen a better example of short dink and donk passes. Fast forward to 2018, Brady and the Patriots continue to throw more WR & RB screens than just about any team. Throw in the occasional deep ball where the corner gets flagged for pass interference and you have the making of an NFL legend.

In watching the NE vs. GB game, I was reminded that when Brady does throw long, it is rarely a completion and often the ball is not particularly well placed.  That is more of a recent thing as he ages, but it's still there.

Their entire approach is short passes with excellent execution and a very high probability of success.

Think about it: as long as you can get 4 yards per pass, you'll always move down field and never have to punt.

You don't necessarily need to throw long to be successful.

Coach McD used the term again...I even heard a sports analyst use "complimentary football".  Pretty sure it applies to Nate Peterman.  The more we keep him involved, boost his ego with a few "atta boys" and "Nice toss Nate" I'm thinking the lightbulb will go off.  As for members of this Board who use derogatory terms about our team and Nate Peterson, I'm not sure you are doing a disservice to the team. Listen to Coach McD carefully, everything he says is finely crafted to compliment his players and one another.  There's no room for negativity in the locker room.  Well done McD

I think McDermott's planned strategy of constant hand clapping plays into this as well.

He fully understands that "failure" is just an opportunity to improve.

People on this board complain about a 7 and 9 record. For years people say either make the playoffs or tank and pick too 5.

No joke, read this crap for years and now the same people who complained about a mediocre finish are the same who are complaining we are so bad. Guys the process has always been code word for tank. Yes this has been a brutal season but that has been the plan

A lot of folks do not believe this was a tank and there is evidence to suggest that it was not.

It comes down to whether or not you want to give McBeane the benefit of the doubt and assume they are competent, or not.

Offensive minded or defensive minded is a load of bunk that the media spews and fans buy into.

A great head coach puts equal emphasis on all aspects of the game and has a strong say in who is personnel is across the board.

The best coaches somehow have great coordinators in all phases of the game, then they lose them to other teams, and they bring in more great coordinators.  Even wonder why?  It because they oversee EVERYTHING and makes sure that its right.

So then, considering our offense is literally historically bad, you're saying Sean McDermott is not a good HC.

    Yes?
