  1. this can't be good, ESPN's James Walker thinks it's a bad idea

If anything, the Bills should be getting Smith as much work as possible at wide receiver. That is where he is most needed. Buffalo has no one who is proven at the position besides Steve Johnson. Smith should join receivers Donald Jones, Marcus Easley and rookie third-rounder T.J. Graham to add depth and competition at the position.

Smith had 23 receptions for the Bills last year. With more reps and coaching, perhaps those numbers could improve. The Bills need all the production they can get at wide receiver.

    <_<

  2. here's Chan opening up a bit on what they liked

Gailey said, “He’s an outside guy. The speed and he’s 5’11 and something, close to six foot there. He can run by most everybody. The guy can fly. Like Buddy said he can catch. He’s got some return ability. I don’t know that we’ll have him do that right off the bat. We’ll have him work at receiver more than anything and let him become proficient there.

He ran some routes. You’ll see him catch the little key route where he just stands up and they throw it out there and he makes somebody miss and runs the football. He was in the slot and ran down the middle. He ran down the sideline. He played different spots for them and did different things for them.

He wasn’t just one of those little fast guys that ran the bubble (screen) where they dump it to him. He wasn’t one of those guys. He’s a guy that has some skill running the football. The difference with him than maybe some of the other guys that we saw on film was when he got it he would take it and run north and south and not shying away running out of bounds and all that stuff. He’s trying to go north and south with the football.”

  3. The only way this works is if Easley or Jones becomes a viable #2. They needed a big fast #2 to stretch the field and be a threat. This is obviously the Roscoe replacement but it doesn't fill the #2 hole.

Obviously they love the guy. But he won't play outside and Nelson is very good in the slot. If Easley comes up then this could be awesome. But we haven't at all filled the need for a #2 WR.

The thing is, after Randle was taken, there really wasn't one left to take that wasn't a huge ?

If Easley, jones or even Hagan can be an outside threat. We'll be fine.

    Tweet from the Bills:

    and there's this

Graham may not have the ideal size to play opposite of Stevie Johnson, but he has outstanding speed and head coach Chan Gailey stated unequivocally that he will line up outside.
  4. I did not read the article. But with the numbers you are posting, then why renovate RWS? If we were to put $150m into renovation, just go new.

there was a pretty good article yesterday in the Buffalo News.

Brandon said the Bills and Populous did a thorough investigation of three stadium options: building a new stadium, "retrofitting" the current stadium and renovating it.

    on the new stadium concept...

"When we looked at the new stadium, we rejected the concept for several reasons," Brandon said. "New stadiums cost anywhere from $800 million and north. What's usually involved is substantial public and fan participations, such as PSLs."

    and the "retrofit"

"In the retrofit, you're looking at $450 million to $500 million," Brandon said. "You're looking at huge public funds and bonds. Then you're looking again at PSLs and much higher ticket prices. We don't believe there's sufficient public support or sufficient fan interest in making that kind of investment."
  5. Damn thing did my recording but it goes for two minutes then it's silence...I can skip it ahead and it'll play for another two minutes or so and then go silent again.

    Very frustrating.

But, yes, still a great app.

probably due to your screen locking after its set timeout period. Try turning off the screen lock during recording/playback. For iphone, Tune In recommends plugging in the phone, not sure if this is required or not...

  6. I've lived in New England for many years and I've never been to a Patriots game or actually watched a live event at Gillette Stadium. I have, however, been to many NFL games in different parts of the country and quite a few in Orchard Park.

A friend and I went to the Pats/Bills on Sunday and it was a horrible user experience, the game not withstanding.

    1. Constant, excessively loud hard rock music blasting from the speakers throughout the game. Now, I'm a big rock music fan and loud is good, but this was way over the top. It was clear that whomever was in charge of the music was playing their own personal favorites as AC/DC and Motley Crue ruled the day. I can't imagine someone with a family actually tolerating this >90db hammering during the entire game, barely cutting off when the ball was in play.

    2. Constant flow of people in the aisles as well in and out of their seats. I must have stood up more than 50 times to let fans out or back in to the row. I have no clue what they were going to do, but I've never seen this much activity not related to the event, anywhere. Not at a sports event, concert or any live performance. It was baffling.

    3. People standing up when there was very little going on down on the field, so of course we have to stand to see the field and then the people behind us... Some folks actually stood up for most of the game talking to their friends, not watching the field at all.

    4. Maybe I'm spoiled, being from Buffalo, but $125 tickets, $50 parking, $8 for a hot chocolate are a ripoff given the user experience inside the stadium.

  7. from my perspective, every time Miami plays a night game this season and I see Sparano wearing sunglasses (even during the PCs), I can't help thinking it's night time, take off the f'ing sunglasses, and maybe you can see the game!

  8. Last season, Fitzpatrick was a clear upgrade over Edwards, but played well below the level of anyone on that list. Fitz will never be able to do the things those quarterbacks can do, because he isn't nearly an accurate a passer as they are.

Back in the '70s, it was often felt a quarterback had to have elite arm strength to be elite. During the '80s, Bill Walsh designed an offense tailored to Joe Montana's abilities, thereby proving that a quarterback could be great even with a mediocre arm. Montana made up for his lack of arm strength with elite accuracy and the ability to hit receivers in perfect stride.

During the first three games of the Bills' season, it appeared as though Gailey may have taken the next big step forward in offensive evolution. His quarterback--Fitzpatrick--was neither strong-armed nor overly accurate. But what Fitz did have was elite-level decision-making ability. The offense Gailey designed would spread defenses out. It called on Fitz to use that elite decision-making ability to exploit whatever defensive weaknesses this created. Fitz would use his "good enough" arm strength and accuracy and his elite decision-making to play at an elite level.

However, the offense hasn't done as well these last two games as it had the first three. Maybe these last two games were an anomaly. Fitz may have been playing hurt against the Bengals, for example. Or maybe defenses are starting to catch up to Gailey's offensive scheme. Or maybe the offense looked better than it really was during those first three games due to its opponents' defensive weaknesses. I expect to have a better feel for the offense by the end of the season. But as of right now, Fitz has yet to demonstrate he can play at or near the level of Warner, Brees, Manning, or Rodgers. This being the case, it would be unwise to assume the Bills will be able to use the same model those teams used to achieve the same level of success they achieved.

Well, according to ESPN's Total QBR, Fitz is currently at #5 in the league, right up there with the best in the business and ahead of some big names...

  9. Flem File: Even the losers get lucky

Anyway, the Bills' season only got hairier from there. They beat the Bengals easily in Week 4 (until the fans revolted and the league finally stepped in and began running the Cincinnati franchise, everyone pretty much did the same). Then the rust-belt roller-coaster ride began in earnest. Buffalo lost five in a row. Then it won six in a row before losing in the season finale against the Pats to go 10-6 (not 6-10 as most of us geniuses had predicted) and set up that epic rematch on the road in New England in the AFC Championship Game. Does it surprise me that the Bills sold out this game at Ralph Wilson Stadium even though it was minus-2 degrees wind chill and the franchise could only afford to show the game projected on a bed sheet in the end zone? Not really, no.
  10. Q. Any more thoughts on Ocho's performance. He caused one interception and dropped a beautiful pass from Brady. -- Vikram (Boston)

    A. You've got to catch that ball. Dropping that ball is inexcusable. Chad knows that. On the interception, could that route have been better? Maybe, but I see that as a spectacular defensive play.

what? Ocho had 3 steps on McLovin and dropped it. How is that a spectacular defensive play?

  11. They're saying Vick is out 3-4 weeks, right? Heard that on Dan Patrick this morning. So Iggles just got more beatable.

The Giants look terrible. Cowboys, who knows with Tony Roma's Ribs.

I think the vaunted NFC East is going to be a lot less of a challenge than they would've been in the recent past.

If we can escape the next 6 games and be 7-2 we will make the playoffs. I think we wind up 6-3 after the next 6. Vick may be out for a few weeks with his hand, and even if he isn't now with the head injury and the hand injury he will be vulnerable. All the games are winnable, but I would think we drop a couple of them.

Vick might play next week, it ain't broke
