  1. Spiller. good player. Yeah...not seeing it. He is a great player when he plays great, anything else he is just awful. Him playing good is just average.

I'd trade Spiller this offseason for a 2nd. I'd trade SJ13 for a 3rd and 5th - and much more hesitantly then I would CJ.

Why stop with them? Isn't Dareus going to be looking for a new deal soon?

  2. You don't read very well do you? It's not just a "trade your good players that's what smart teams do" post. I'm not going to explain it to you. ;)

Trade Spiller and Johnson to get "value." When the value you get most likely won't be equal to their talents. Spiller wasn't very good today or much this year. Still the numbers aren't terrible. Johnson is a number 2 if the team has a superstar WR. Why not build around guys who can play? How many runningbacks are built to last 16 games? Fred Jackson hasn't been durable the last few seasons either.

  3. I always viewed Dorsey as a game manager with tons of talent around him. Manziel is the polar opposite if that. He makes a million plays and a bunch of mistakes. His decision making is questionable, instincts off the charts, good arm strength (Dorsey had none), huge hands which compensates for his height (he is taller than Brees) and the ability to rise to the occasion. He may not stay healthy but he is an interesting prospect.

He is 1 of those guys that scouts dont know how to classify. I bet he doesnt make it out of the top 10. Some team is going to roll the dice on what appears to be a boom or bust prospect. He has done things at the college level (in the SEC) that no one has ever done.

I'd roll the dice on Manziel over Marriota or Bridgewater. Alabama gave up 42 to A&M and has given up 53 pts combined against all other teams. I think he'll get better. He's nothing close to being a similar player to Dorsey.

  4. If you're facing 3rd and 1, who do you call on? Spiller and his higher YPC or Jackson? Spiller and his east-west preference or Jackson? Because if I'm in 1st and 10 and you get 5 yards it's not as valuable as gaining one on 3rd and 1.

If it's 3rd and 1 I don't go in the shotgun. I use my big QB and fall forward.

I wouldn't trade him. With some creative play calling he is still a weapon. However, a bigger workhorse back should be a priority. Fred is getting old and will retire within a year or two. There should be a big back who can move the pile a few yards every time. Choice is ok, but he is not going to move the pile. Summers is in the same category as Easley: Big, strong, seems like a useful weapon to have, but for some reason he is not used. Go figure.

Maybe the only position the Bills seem set at and they need a workhorse back? This isn't 1980's football. How many workhorse backs are their in the league? If Marrone and Hackett can't find more ways to get the ball to their two best playmakers than they shouldn't get a 2nd year. Choice shouldn't see the field with a healthy Spiller and Jackson.

  5. Re hashing drafting CJ is pointless, but if they can't find a spot in that offense for him I don't get it. Many have said it, put FJ and CJ in the backfield and put one in motion. Of course as I've said b4, I'm a accountant not a FB coach! B-)

With both of them they still find carries for Tashard Choice which blows my mind.

  6. I'm not going to re-hash my arguments against taking Spiller. He's made some plays and while injured as well, like the Cleveland run.

And no, Marrone/Hackett/Manuel did the running game no favors by not providing an option. Jackson seemed to fight for every yard, but he typically doesn't go down on first contact. Spiller tends to do just that and doesn't get the extra yard given his frame. Speed is nice, but I'll take a healthy and slower Jackson in those circumstances.

Spiller is average more YPC than Jackson. So if he's not "fighting for the extra yard," he's still getting it.

  7. You can't have a back getting negative or no yardage so often in a close game. Everyone knows he's capable of breaking a big one, but that's not always enough when it's close and teams are clamping down on the run because they know you can't pass. Jackson is a better option right now, which tells me a lot about how this new coaching staff feels about Buddy's first draft pick from the last (failed) rebuild.

I'll take Spiller on the field over Jackson. Neither were good yesterday. Jackson's numbers are better but the offense was pathetic. Punting inside the 40 is a quit play call by Marrone.

Compared to how the two most recent 1st rd picks played Spiller was a star. Gilmore was horrible.

  8. The Bills are so set at WR, T.J. Graham started. For a guy who is always hurt he hadn't missed a game in 3 seasons before the Bengals game. They're not helping a young QB by giving him guys like Graham to throw the ball to. Goodwin and Woods have shown potential. Still after Johnson the Bills have potential and an average TE to throw to.

He's a middle of the road #1 wr.

  9. All of the announcers in the world pale in comparison to Jon Gruden. The guy is the epitome of a douche. He panders to the lowest common denominator of football fans who want to see the "ooh's" and "aah's" and feel like they know football. I have heard the guy talk so many times and be so completely wrong it hurts me. That this guy was a Super Bowl winning coach makes me scratch my head. I know he knows the X's and O's when it is moving and he can break down plays as a coach but he cannot comment on them or explain them or coach them to save his life. There is a reason that the players he coached said he was not well liked and that's because he always seems to be talking down to you or telling you how something is when it is as obvious as the sun in the sky.

    Gruden sucks.

Everybody is a "heck of a player," according to Gruden. He is brutal. Dierdorf is almost as bad. For me it seems as if Gruden doesn't want to say anything of consequence so he doesn't upset any players for when he gets back into coaching.

  10. We need a big RB for short yardage and goal line situations. Gotta be able to move the sticks on 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1 and score the TD on 1st and goal from the 1. Manuel needs experience. Gotta have an experienced backup QB. Need a big/tall WR. Need another pass catching TE. Need another starting caliber CB. Need another pass rusher. Need the HC to manage the game like Belichick does.

The Bills and many other teams don't get the philosophy of just falling forward on 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1. A local radio host advocates this and the math suggests it's the right thing.

  11. The more I think about it, I wonder why the NFL doesn't have its own radio station in every NFL city in America?

And why doesn't the NHL have the same thing in every NHL city in America?

    Think about it.

If you had an AM radio station that covered your team 24/7 and anything happening in the league that was relevant to your team, wouldn't you listen?

I would listen to a dedicated Bills station on and off all day long especially during the football season.

I would have about 4-5 predetermined live shows throughout the day and just replay those shows back to back in the evening and overnight.

Having a dedicated station like that would really help the team deepen its relationship with the fan base (make them more loyal) and also help them increase the size of the fan base within the listening area.

Just a thought.......maybe I am crazy.....If colleges can afford to run radio stations I am sure the Bills and Sabres have deep enough pockets to run one of their own too.

I think the NFL could but the NHL isn't popular enough.
