A 42 yard kick with the game on the line is like a 50 yard kick. Statistics show that every yard you get closer your chances of making that field goal go up exponentially. The chance of a fumble is about 2%. Versus about a 7% higher chance of making the Field Goal from 5 yards closer.
He could have put his backup QB in the game and QB sneaked it 3 times. The fumble rate on QB sneaks is nearly non-existant and there is no risk of losing yardage.
It was a dumb decision and im sure he wishes he could take it back.
2 tackles, pressure all day, collapsed the pocket which led to a sack, recovered a fumble, tipped a pass that killed a Chiefs drive and drew a holding penalty because he was beating his man one on one.
Yeah, thats a pretty good game.
Sacks ARE unimportant. Almost any former QB would tell you that consistent pressure is 10x more powerful than a sack here or there.
If Mario plays 14 more games like today and has 0 sacks It would be a WILDLY successful season. That would mean his presence would have attributed to about a 70 sack season for this defensive line.
It's clear the majority of posters don't exactly understand the impact Mario made today. That's sad. Im not sure if to blame it on our education system or their DNA.
Now we're comparing LB's to DE's? Just stop.
That's nonsense.
Such ignorance gives me headaches. Someone else deal with this jester.
Not if he's enabling the rest of the line to combine for 50 sacks.
is right.
Who said we paid him to get sacks? We paid him to help the pass rush. And by taking up two offensive players, he is helping the pass rush.
You assuming things doesn't mean it's true.
Yup. A lot of the stunts were x'd towards Mario as well.
Too bad the children of the forum don't understand what that means and think he didn't do anything.
I have to continually remind myself that there are children on this forum that don't know the game and only see it skin deep. It takes some years of knowledge to see deeper.
You didn't post any facts.
It's amateur hour to point out what you did. Anyone who knows a lick about the game, knows that Mario is THE REASON that the other defensive lineman you spoke about were playing as well as they were. 2 of our 5 sacks were directly attributable to Mario's presence in the pocket.
Mario came to work today. He was the reason for at least two of our sacks, pushing the edge and forcing Cassel to collapse in. He was doubled on many plays and even tripled (with a TE and RB) on a few plays.
That is what we paid Mario to do. Great job.
I said it last week. Fred going down is a blessing in disguise. I love FJax and all he has done here, but Spiller is much better at this point.
Spiller leads the NFL in rushing FYI.
