  1. I generally agree with the list. And from what I've read Lamonica should be higher for sure. I actually thought Taylor had a pretty good year last year, and there's only one year to judge. I agree with your assessment of Bledsoe. Many on this thread cannot separate his near hall-a-fame play for NE versus what he did (or didn't do) for the Bills. Now what's interesting to me is can we predict Taylor's future from the plight of any of these QB's on the list. What made Jim Kelly great. Toughness, confidence, arm strength, accuracy, touch. What made Trent Edwards suck. Lack of toughness and confidence. He had some accuracy and touch. And we all know he can throw the short ball. What made JP Losman suck. No ability to throw over the middle. No vision. Bad pocket presence. He had arm strength and a nice long ball. Tyrod appears to me (at this point) to be a better JP Losman. He has arm strength and a nice long ball. No ability to throw over the middle. No vision. His big plus over Losman is that he can run like a really good running back.
  2. Blast from the past reading about Gary Marangi again. He's definitely one of the all time bums. Isn't it funny that any QB that registers a 0.0 rating blames it on being hurt. I guess I would too. I remember the Marangi versus Ferguson argument.. Turned out to be no contest. I'm in the camp that Fergy was underrated. The 1980 team with a healthy Fergy had a chance to win the Super Bowl. The fact that Jim Plunkett and the Raiders, which we destroyed during the regular season, won that year still bothers me.
  3. Fitz isn't great, but he had a pretty good game yesterday... Yes, he didn't get it done in the 4th quarter.. Guess what.. Stevie didn't get it done in the 4th quarter. He dropped a 3rd down catch that probably would have been a first down. The offense line didn't get it done in the 4th quarter. We went to our ground and pound, on first and second down; and got nothing.. Our defense didn't get it done in the 4th quarter, when it counted. We had chances to make plays on that last drive, and we didn't. And finally, the coaches didn't get it down in the 4th quarter. No blitzes on the last drive.. Going into a shell on offense... They all stink. Fitz is not the answer.. However, this team (including the coaches) constantly crumbles around him.
  4. I agree that... the "when Fitz throws over 30 passes".... is a useless statistic. Tell me how the rest of league's QB's stand with this stat along with Fitz. Then you maybe we can make some inferences. Our defense is one of the 5 worst in the league and our QB is average (6th out of 16 in the AFC). Both of these factors are why we are are 5 - 7, and barely hanging on mathematically for a playoff spot.. So, it's not a big secret to me that our really bad defense has more of the blame here.
  5. I put Fitz in the middle of the pack of NFL quarterbacks. Over the last 2 years of the "Fitz Tenure", our Defense may be the worst in the league. And our best wide receiver is a 7th round draft choice with grandma speed. We have to have at least an average NFL quarterback to win any games with this team.
  6. And Kelly had Bruce Smith, Shane Conlin, Corny Bennett, Darryl Talley on Defense..... Should I go on...
  7. Graham ran the wrong route. He was probably in there because Jones and Jackson were on the sidelines woozy.. That interception is on him. Speculation on whether that throw is on the mark for the "correct" route is just not productive. For all those that will use any thread to post a "Fitz sucks" note... I don't think you can do it here. He played extremely well. Including that last drive. Graham said it himself.. It was his fault.
  8. The answers are: 1. We should try to upgrade at QB in the next draft. 2. It's risky business to find a franchinse QB (see Todd Collins, Rob Johnson, J.P. Losman, and Trent Edwards) 2. There are only 2-3 QB's in the league that could win with our historically bad Defense (Brady, Rodgers, Who else??) 3. Ryan Fitzpatrick has not played well this year. However, every mistake he makes is amplified because our Defense stinks beyond belief. 4. Our Defense is the main reason that our season has been disappointing so far
  9. Our defense has given up 48, 52, and 45 points in three of the six games. That is pathetic. It appears no matter what thread I read these days, there are going to be at least a few "Fitz sucks" posts. Yes, we have a problem at quarterback; but that is not the reason we lost those three games. How many quarterbacks in the league are going to outscore 48, 52, and 45 points in a game? Guess what. We won the three games where the defense played half way decently. I do think if we were to identify the LVP (Least Valuable Player) for the first six games it would be Wannstadt. I loved the comment on this thread about "the scheme is good if you have 11 pro-bowlers". Wanny just decided to start coaching in the last game. We finally saw a little creativity in the Arizona game. So; what the hell was Training Camp for? To the argument that Wanny doesn't have the horses; he's got any awful lot of number one and two round draft choices on his defense (see below). Yes, he has a young set of corners; and linebackers. However; all defensive coordinators in the NFL; are faced with personnel that are young. There are no "Steel Curtain" rosters anymore; with free agency. Teams have to play rookies, and second year players.. All of them. So it's the job of the "well paid" Defensive Coordinator to come up with creative schemes to hide the vulnerabilities in his defense. Wanny has obviously come up short to date. M Williams (1st round - 1st pick) Darius (1st round - 3rd pick) Anderson (5th round) Kelsay (2nd round) Sheppard (3rd round) Barnett (1st round) Moats (6th round) Gilmore (1st round) McKelvin (1st round) Bryd (2nd round) A Williams (2nd round)
  10. Fred Jackson appears to be the "go to" leader on the team. As somebody posted earlier; having him come out of the tunnel is going to be a huge emotional lift to the team, and the fans (12th man). Fred playing gives us a significantly greater chance of knocking off the Patriots this Sunday. I think a Bills victory (third straight Pats lose) could derail the Pats season. Got to kick them when they are down.. We've debated about the Bills winning the division, however in the Brady years it's been mostly a pipe dream.. We have an opening, here. If Fred can play, he should play.
  11. At least I noticed Shep was on the field for this game. That's an improvement. However, he's got to get better and fast or we are in trouble. I don't care how good the D-line is; you need a middle linebacker in a 4-3 scheme to be flying around the field. Unfortunately, this position may be the difference between our D-fense being really good and just average.
  12. I remember this play and it was a big one, I agree. I have to respectfully disagree that you can use this play as an example to disprove the concerns of most of the posts in this thread. There is a general concern that Shep is having trouble getting off his blocks. On this play, Shep was NOT blocked. He pretty much came in untouched. Now if you are saying that Shep can be a productive MLB; if he remains unblocked on most plays; I would then agree with you 100%.
  13. Just read this thread and many of the comments. I am in agreement with most of what has been written here about Shep. He did nothing last year to imply that he was an impact player. Did he have any stops behind the line of scrimmage, or make any big stops on third down to get the defense off the field? I don't recall Shep making many (or any) of these type of plays. I have seats low on the sidelines for the home games, and my first impression of Shep was not very good. I remember a Michael Vick scramble last year against the eagles that went for 50 yards or so, and Sheppard chasing after him. I know that no MLB in the league is going to catch Michael Vick, but Shep looked like he was running on a wooden leg. He looked incredibly stiff; and I wondered then what the coaching staff was seeing in this guy. I'm still wondering. Here's hoping I'm wrong, because we need competent linebacker play to complement our very good defensive line.
