  1. In related news, thanks to this thread, I just picked up Jordan Mason off fantasy FA, and the guy who has McCaffrey doesn't have a RB on his bench that can play tonight.

Best he can hope for is Braelin Allen NYJ.

My roomie is up 10.04 and had CMC vs. Moody. Mason isn't available. So he has to pick up one of the back up RBs and hope for some points.

I'm having the kicker knuckle it down to the 5 yard line, trying to get it in between the returners. Either the ball bounces around some or it hits in the field of play and goes out of the endzone putting the ball at the 20.

No one in the world has a leg that can knuckle ball it 45 yds to get into the 20yd landing zone. Remember, it has to land there, and not just bounce into it. You'll just be giving it to them at the 40.

Most kickers can get it to the endzone; but we'll still be seeing some returns due to weather. Also, some teams invested in returners so they'll give them a shot (like GB) to take it out of the EZ.

Overall, it's a rule that gets them as close to eliminating kickoffs without actually doing it.

I don't think it is wise to just concede the 30, personally. But we'll see how it goes.

Preseason has shown that they're already conceding the 25yd line.

The timing and need to maintain your coverage lanes doesn't allow much collapse or pursuit to the ball. The returner basically hits a wall of tacklers at the 25.

I'm wondering if there are teams that will allow their Returner to take it out of the endzone.

Yeah it's odd because if you look at rankings and average draft position, by conventional wisdom he shouldn't even go in the first round.

And yet he does in the leagues I'm aware of and there hasn't been any buyer's remorse.

How can you go wrong drafting the highest scoring QB who's also your favorite player of all time?

I think it's because whoever has Josh usually has the best team the last few years. It's like an auto-invite into the playoffs.

  5. Worthy has the best chance but will be injury prone. Small and fast receivers don't last long.

Pearsall is buried behind good receivers; He'll be good for another team.

Legette and Polk will have growing pains with their young QBs; their teams will rebuild again.

Coleman has to wait (like Shakir) and will probably be a solid #2 like Davis.

McConkey will be pushed to succeed early. Chargers have no one else.

I see success as getting a second contract. McConkey will get paid.

My draft was a bunch of guys from across the country, so we did it online.  Based on my work schedule, I requested a 6 PM start time.  The guys went with 5:30 with very little notice.  I got home around 5:40, and knowing I'd be a bit late, I had asked that they pause the draft when my 1st round pick came up.  Apparently they were not very tech savvy and couldn't figure out how to stop the draft.  By the time I got logged in, the 2nd round was over and my first two picks were made by auto draft.  I was pretty pissed off, to say the least, but I don't think their failure was intentional.  Auto-draft gave me two WR's - St. Brown and Nacua - not terrible - but probably not who I would have picked in those spots.  I recovered and ESPN graded my draft a "B".  I usually try to get at least one Bills player, but most of the guys in the league have ties to Buffalo and they grabbed everyone.  I would have liked to have Shakir, in particular, and Samuel in the late rounds.  I love Allen, but someone always overdrafts him, so I know he wouldn't be available.  Ray Davis is still available as a free agent, but I went with Blake Corum in the last round instead, as I think he'll get some opportunity with the Rams and seize the job before it's all said and done.

I can see Jordan Love challenging for MVP. No holes in your lineup. Team is loaded; i'm guessing an 8 or 10 team league?

Nervouse that Pitts is hurt and you don't have a backup.

    QB Joe Burrow

    RB Jonathan Taylor

    RB Kyren Williams

    WR DJ Moore

    WR George Pickens

    WR Jayden Reed

    TE Mark Andrews

    SFLEX Raheem Mostert

    DFST Dallas

    K Daniel Carlson

    -------------------------------------

    BN QB DeShaun Watson

    BN QB Bryce Young

    BN RB Khalil Hebert

    BN RB Ray Davis

    BN WR JuJu Smith-Shuster

    BN WR Jakoby Meyers

    BN WR Jameson Williams

    BN TE Noah Fant

Love the RB starters. I would personally dump Hebert, he burned me last year with his inconsistency. WHEN Achane gets hurt, Mostert will be a monster.

Solid production players; no surprises in this lineup. Possible sleepers in Reed and Davis. I don't Believe in Young, but you never know.

In our league there are 4 Bills fans among the 10 teams so Josh has never made it out of the 1st round and he's always justified his high draft position.

My co-worker, who is NOT a Bills fan, drafted Josh Allen #2 overall; just after McCaffrey. It's a PPR league.

like the late rounds in a snake aren't boring.

    Nope. It gets MORE exciting.

You target sleepers and possible breakout players. You're on the edge of your seat hoping that no else sees what you see. You actually roster players you want rather than getting stuck with randoms that no else bid on.

The thrill is in sneaking players under people's noses. It's watching someone mistakenly taking C. Otton because of the xperts and forgetting about Taysom Hill.

Although I can see how an auction would be better for people who only know the top 50 players and don't know, or care, about the rest of their team.

  10. 1 minute ago, nucci said:

the point of auction drafts is not waiting while players you want get picked. You can pretty much get any player you want. One of our teams drafted Tyreek Hill, Cee Dee Lamb and BJ Robinson. His bench isn't great but no way you get those 3 players in a snake draft

Also means the guy was probably bored out of his mind filling out the rest of his roster.

  11. 6 minutes ago, nucci said:

I have no idea what you're talking about. Auctions are fun and exciting and you can pretty much get any player you want as opposed to watching best players being taken while you wait your turn.

If everyone knows you're a Bills fan, wouldn't they jack up the cost of Josh Allen knowing you would pay above market value?

Let me guess, after the best players are taken in an auction draft, the rest of the players usually go for minimums or no one else bids.

Snake drafts gets more exciting as the pool of players dwindle. Yes, like the real NFL draft, the top 2 rounds are predictable, that's why the best make their money in the mid/late rounds.

  12. 26 minutes ago, nucci said:

why do you guys do snake drafts? Auction is only fair way to draft. I've converted people who will never do snake again after doing auction.

edit: after reading about it more, I would hate auctions.

You are dependent on knowing the other members instead of knowing NFL players. You need to study each other. This will give a huge advantage to longtime players vs newbies. How would a new person know what the cost ranges would be?

Any Biases or Feuds would be exploited. Family/Couples can bleed loners dry. Not fair at all.

I'd take him after Brown, and indeed have in a league.  He'd be after CeeDee, Tyreek, AJ Brown and JJ for sure at receiver. And I'd take at least Bijan, Saquon and Taylor ahead of him. I guess that means if I was at 9 I'd consider Chase. I think I'd take him ahead of Wilson. St Brown and Chase would be a toss up for me.

I would draft St Brown at 5. I like his steady production. Like a machine.

I know he's rated lower, but that just means it was guaranteed that I would take him if I drafted top 8.

Micky, Reek, Lamb, Jefferson, then Amon. Chase (normally) would be here.

Then B Hall, Bijan, Brown and Wilson ... Chase/Saquon/Taylor would be the toss up for me.

Ideal would be WR in 1st because 2nd round is chock full of RB options that are tossups.

Any notable GMs in your leagues?

    Nobody famous, but...

My commissioner is running 5 different leagues all with different point systems and position requirements.

One of his leagues penalizes for sacks/interceptions so that QBs get low points, and even go negative (like Josh vs Jets wk1 ).  My league penalizes fg misses so some players didn't even draft a kicker. Justin Tucker went in the 5th.

    Last night.

10 teams, 16 rounds. QB, WR, WR, RB, TE, W/R/T, K, DEF, D, D, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

    1.(5)Tyreek Hill  (Mia - WR)

    2.(16)Garrett Wilson  (NYJ - WR)

3.(25)Travis Etienne Jr.  (Jax - RB)

4.(36)Kenneth Walker III  (Sea - RB)

    5.(45)DJ Moore  (Chi - WR)

    6.(56)Dalton Kincaid  (Buf - TE)

    7.(65)Tua Tagovailoa  (Mia - QB)

    8.(76)D'Andre Swift  (Chi - RB)

    9.(85)Caleb Williams  (Chi - QB)

    10.(96)Harrison Butker  (KC - K)

    11.(105)Cleveland  (Cle - DEF)

    12.(116)C.J. Mosley  (NYJ - LB)

    13.(125)Patrick Queen  (Pit - LB)

    14.(136)Khalil Shakir  (Buf - WR)

    15.(145)Jessie Bates III  (Atl - S)

    16.(156)Christian Watson  (GB - WR)

    Thoughts:

    1) Josh went 4th overall (to a Bills fan) 2) I really wanted Saquon Barkley but had to settle for Garrett Wilson 2 picks later. 3) I was hoping for Mahomes in round 3 but settled for Etienne 4 picks later. 4) Baltimore D was taken in the 3rd round. 5) Was pleased to get Kenneth Walker in round 4 (I took him over Mixon though). 6) Was pleased to get DJ Moore in round 5. 7) I took Dalton Kincaid over Kyle Pitts who went 1 round later.I ended up taking 3 Bears, Caleb, DJ, and Swift. That wasn’t necessarily the plan though I don’t mind either. 9) I despise Butker but glad he was there in the 10th. Overall pleased with my draft.

I would be more disgusted drafting Tua. No Fish on my teams.

QBs - Kyler Murray, Matthew Stafford

WRs - Garrett Wilson, Jaylen Waddle, Cooper Kupp, Michael Pittman, Keon Coleman

TEs - Sam LaPorta, Pat Freiermuth

12 man keeper league (keepers were Murray, Robinson, LaPorta, Wilson) and I drafted 9th in each round.

No Kickers, No Defense, No IDP because all of these are stupid.

Having Defensive players separates the casuals from the nerds. Scouting kickers points out the obsessives.

That's true, but sometimes the auto pick drafts turn out pretty dang good, lol. In my work league last year our CEO auto drafted and he ended with one of the best regular season records. He would have done better if he paid more attention late in the season.

The good thing about auto-pick is that it doesn't get emotional. How many of us picked Shakir, Kincaid, or Colman too early?

  16. 1 minute ago, MJS said:

Kmet is my backup TE, so I can easily drop him and pick up a free agent if he isn't performing.

Ja'Marr Chase went 5th overall in my draft. I checked and his ADP is 7. He will probably be gone by pick 9, but you never know. I think he would be a good pick there.

I love the guys who auto-pick. It clears out the questionable players since the computer doesn't care about injuries/holdouts.

  17. 9 minutes ago, MJS said:

I took Kelce in round 5, pick 44 (I was picking 4th overall). I took Josh Allen in the 3rd round. I was determined to get him this year. I picked up Shakir in round 11, in case that is interesting.

It is a default NFL.com league, which is QB, RB×2, WR×2, TE, W/R, K, DEF. NFL.com switched to PPR being default a couple of years ago, so it is PPR.

Both Josh and Kelce went in the 2nd. Last year both Mahomes and Kelce went in the 1st. My League is weird.

I'm the only Bills fan, but no way am I going below 3rd rnd for any QB.

I was happy to nab Shakir in the 14th. The guy who drafted K Coleman (12th rnd) already traded him for a back-up QB.

  18. 6 minutes ago, Stretch said:

I like Kmet late also, but do note that the Bears added Gerald Everett and he will take some snaps.

Where would you guys draft J Chase if you had a draft right now?  I am picking 9th in a 12 team league tonight and I think I will pass if he is there at 9 (for hopefully someone like AJ Brown), but might take him if still there at 16.  It is a hard situation to read as I think there is a decent chance the Bengals don’t give him the new contract right now.

I would take him after AJ Brown, and G Wilson, but at 9 I would also consider a RB like J Taylor, S Barkley, or Ky Williams.  Of course, you can also just choose Chase and hope he helps in the playoffs when it really counts.
