Completely agree - Taylor is a gamer and keeps us competitive. He has had some failures, but the offense puts up points and he has a crippled receiving core. Jawbone down the guarantee a bit.

Bills win, 34-28. Darby back makes a difference.
Haters gonna hate, but we don't suck. We don't have the back-end to stop a premier passing team (which will be a problem with Pitt for sure), and our offense is very scheme-oriented and not suited to playing from behind. Weaknesses yes, but I don't get all the hand-wringing, hating and despair. I expected to lose at Oakland, they are very good. I was shocked when we were up 24-9. And not shocked when Carr brought them back - as has been his history. We are not that far from beating teams like Seattle and Oakland on the road - that is a big deal. If we had a healthy Woods and Watkins I think those games both could have come out differently. Throwing to Glass, Hunter, Tate and a gimpy out-of-sync Sammy is not exactly giving Taylor his best chance. Don't mean that as excuse making, certainly Tyrod could do more, for sure. People are so quick to declare that he sucks though; I have watched numerous sucky quarterbacks for us, and Tyrod is miles from some of those guys. He ain't Machine Gun Kelly either, I get it.
BTW - what about trying Robey-Coleman at free safety on obvious passing downs and move Graham to strong. Granted, he gets abused by tall tight-ends sometimes. Let Seymour take that gig. But I think Robey-Coleman has the vision and closing speed to play free. He is an athlete and he has hops if the play is in front of him. Does the board think his height makes that out of the question? I think he could be a ball-hawk on the back end of a kind we have not had since foot-man left for the Aints.
One other thing about Robey-Coleman. Dude is a baller. For a little guy, he hits like a truck. Put him in back where he can see the play develop and draw a bead on the ball and on receivers.

Okay. Yes, 10-6 is a successful season. Why - we would have a good winning percentage and be showing progress.

Absolutely! Perhaps we are conditioned for low expectations, but how many times in this franchise's history have they had three non-losing seasons in a row?
I can think of (i) 1963-66; (ii) did we have a winning season in '76? if so, 1974-76? (iii) 1980-82; (iv) 1988-1996. I am doing this from memory, so I may not be exactly right. But by Bills standards 9-7, 8-8 and 10-6 would be a period of epic prosperity! We have only had three non-losing seasons in row three or four times in 56 years. I have watched 51 of those years - those that have become fans during the playoff drought have not lived how truly dreadful our Bills can be. Most of these teams have been fairly competitive. At least I feel this front office is trying to win and has some clue on how to do it. I don't see a need to tear it down. Keep Rex, renew Tyrod and draft a QB. Keep developing Cardale and the draft choice and see what happens with Tyrod. He is an unusual talent and a hard worker - perhaps his passing improves. The one thing I have not liked though is his lack of accuracy at key points in the last two.

Hughes, Hughes, Hughes! Poster above nailed it. He has been invisible the last couple of weeks. Given what a beast he was early, I have to believe he is playing dinged. DIdn't he hurt his hand not long ago? Would be HUGE if he could have a big game vs. Raiders. I like Hughes a lot, but I thought we were better with Shaq in his spot yesterday. Would like to see a little more of Shaq -

I feel we are close to being a really good team. That we have hung around with all the injuries says a lot. I didn't think I would find myself saying this, but I admire the job Rex has done keeping it together and keeping them playing this year.
We need a break through win. Could have been his signature game last week, but perhaps it is time for Tyrod to have that game. To break through. If we win this one it would be pretty easy to get on a roll given our relative health and schedule. But the team needs to break through to too, to beat a quality opponent on the road. Boy this is big. Wish it was at home. If the DBs show-up, their O-line is bad and we can take this.

No thanks. Williams' are power runners. Fred can still stick it in there for 3-4 yards (averaged nearly 4 last year), would help with Biltz pick-up or could chip RT's man and serve as a safety valve. Don't know why we need a gadget back - give me FredEx, slow and all. If there is nothing in the tank, retire him after 4 games and make him a quality control coach. Good point above about Bush on returns, but I would pass if he costs anything more than vet minimum - and I assume he will.

Why the attraction to Bush? The two Williams' we are down are power runners - why fill in with a gadget back? Give me Fred if we have to have a fill-in. He may be (ok, he is) slow, but I bet he can still stick it up in there between the tackles for 3-4 a crack, he would be great in blitz pick-up and, I suspect, a welcome relief valve for when the pocket breaks down and TT does not want to run for his life. Heck, I can see it now, have Fred chip our right tackles man and leak him out in the flat behind that weak spot, er, I mean area.
Gillislee can be Shady's "speed back" back-up. A Fred in the hand over the Bush (hell, is Spiller still with the Saints? Could see a cut there if you want a gadget - a good teammate for sure). Four games for Fred then retire him a Bill if tank is on zero, quality control coach thereafter.

Pay the man. The fellow above who says the Bills have leverage now is absolutely correct. It is by no means outside of the realm of possibility that injury could cost Tyrod the financial security he could achieve now. And I believe there is a majority likelihood that Tyrod will play well enough this year that we will lose that leverage when he can get that security from the market as well as for the Bills. This could be a win-win. Tyrod knows that he and his family are taken care of, and Bills can get a discount of some amount vs. what they would be forced to pay if Tyrod has a good year and can address the market. Also gives our boys clarity on their cap situation for addressing folks like Gilmore. But QB is most important . . . Get 'er done! Clearly the smart move in my view. If you think Tyrod is not your guy, you needed to make a move in the draft higher than Cardale or in free agency. If your best football judgment is that he is the guy, then you need to pay him now.
And as to the idea that Tyrod needs to play hungry - in this case I don't think so. Certain Byrds may play best at contract time. I think this one is motivated by a desire to be great and prove wrong all the people that tried to move him to another position, in addition to the money. I don't expect $$$ would change the man's hunger.

I say yes. Fred over Reggie Bush anytime. Blitz pick-up, safety valve and situational runs. Slow for sure, but bring him in for short-term insurance and when it is time retire him from the red, white and blue - then hire him as a coach at some low level.

Sign him now. If the Bills lose him, I will never forgive them! Disagree that Gilmore is "so" critical. He has had trouble staying on the field, and while he has been extremely good at times other times not so much. Would love to see them sign Gilmore, but for me Tyrod is a greater priority.

Luck for me, then Tyrod. For the next 10 years, can't see Rogers, Brady, Brees. After Luck, I like TT the best of the young guys. I would not want Cam, saw all I need to see after he backed away from the fumble in the Super Bowl - that is not the team I want to build, regardless of his obvious talent. The kid Winston in Tampa showed me a lot more than I expected - could be a monster, don't really know that much about his work ethic and character. Mariotta looks skinny to me, but maybe that is just me. Probably unfairly ascribing brother attributes to Carr, but for some reason I keep expecting him to be not so good eventually. So for me for the next ten: Luck, TT, Carr, Winston, Cam, Mariotta, in that order.
And not Sam Bradford ;-) I remember the clamor for that fellow. -
Some thoughts on the above:
1. Thank for the kind comment about my EJ post. No one is suggesting he has any future here, he doesn't. But I sure would like to see the kid have a decent career someplace else down the road. I think he caught a bad hand here. He was supposed to sit behind Kolb and learn for a year or two. Then the rubber mat attacked poor Kevin and EJ - who they knew was a developmental QB - was jammed in to be the starter. Then he got hurt, lost confidence, had the roof cave-in in Jacksonville and so now he is a joke. I don't think he is a joke. And I think there will be a market for him as a back-up when he leaves B-Lo this year.
2. Some above speculate it will cost the same now as later to sign Tyrod. To me, this defies logic and common sense. If he has a very good year, the price goes up. And if he has a very bad year it goes down. I expect the former more than the latter, especially in view of the weapons around him and the investment in the line (though I fear right tackle). I think this is the handicapping the front office must be doing, no?
3. Given my view that it is far more likely that TT progresses rather than regresses, I would get it done now, take our lumps on the cost and risk, and rest comfortable knowing what I bought. To me, the ONLY risk with Tyrod is if he proves incapable of avoiding injury. The other criticisms I can't imagine him not overcoming - not throwing over the middle enough or "escaping the pocket from the rear." If he plays a couple years, i can't imagine him not throwing over the middle adequately. Last year he was managed by coaches and likely did not want to blow his chance by throwing a bunch of INTs and getting pulled (as EJ in Jacksonville did). I have no doubt he can throw over the middle with a little more seasoning.
Go Bills, Go Tyrod. By the way, bring in Fred as a quality control coach or something. He can smack guys like Karlos upside the head.

Well, I think they should sign him now. And I hope EJ makes it late in his career someplace else and is not opening a Popeye's. Given his work ethic and tools, it would not shock me - but I also think it is more likely that he doesn't. Sign Tyrod, agree it will cost you more later - wait if you think you have a Trent or Losman or Fitz. Not what I think in this case.

Personally, I really would like to see the Bills get Tyrod done now. Will give them clarity on their cap situation, and will avoid a potential distraction. I also think we are weighing risks here - forcing him to prove it reduces risk of a bad signing. If he does however I suspect the price goes up a great deal. Given that I have a lot of faith in Tyrod, I personally think the smart move is to get it done now. Be interested in what the board thinks.
I also fear Tyrod gets hurt and EJ comes in and plays well enough to create a controversy. That would be very bad, from my perspective, because I think Tyrod is the much better long-term choice. I know this is a deep minority view. I thought EJ showed promise until hurt in Cleveland - he played with confidence and brought them back to win a couple of times. After that, he seemed to lose his swagger, started aiming the ball and refused to throw receivers open. Then last year, his determination to "let it go" seemed an over-compensation resulting in lots of bad plays. Unlike almost everyone else I think he has the talent to be pretty good if he gets his head right, just not nearly as good as Tyrod. So with this roster I could see him coming in for a hurt Tyrod and winning a bunch of games. If we make the playoffs under him, I fear are QB situation becomes a mess. I believe I am the only one that thinks this is plausible - anyone else have a scrap of confidence left in EJ? My expectation is no.
But I want Tyrod, and I would like to see him signed before the season. Be interested in people's thoughts on both signing Tyrod and whether EJ has any hope to salvage his career. If he lasts that long, I could see him becoming an adequate starter in about year 6 or 7 of his career - but it won't be in Buffalo.

And having said all that - I fully realize Tyrod needs to take a big step this year. I think he can, but recognize he may not. I am rooting for him beyond my usual "I love all Bills" -- if he can do the job, I think he will be awfully easy to root for.

Oil is going to $20 a barrel, and global deflation based on demographics will persistently depress the prices of other resources that are the lifeblood of the Canadian economy. Canada don't make no nothing, the sell resources. Canada is so screwed that Toronto is going to be looking to a re-emergent Buffalo to bail out the Raptors and Jays in 10 years. They will "regionalize" those franchises to draw better in Western New York. Pegs will buy the Jays and move them to Buffalo - and give them a real name, like Bisons. Bon Jovi can sing the U.S. National Anthem on opening day. It is going to be sweet!!
