The bears will get a mid round comp pick for him walking anyway. So assume they want a first, 2nd, or two mid round picks.

Our cap situation isnt going to allow us to make any kind of wr splash. Maybe someone at 1-3 mill a year or so. Kyle will likely get released due to his cap hit. I'm hoping he'all take much less to return even though he's playing great football.
Vincent Jacksons market is 12+ mill a year? Lol. Garçon 10+? That's crazy talk
It's their current cap hit. Garcon is in the last year of a 5 year deal so his cap hit is a bit higher.
I like him as an option if we lose Woods - or even keep woods. I'd like to draft someone as well, but our depth is so bad right now that we need some real guys out there.
We only have 3 under contract for next year and 1 has yet to play, 1 is on IR, and the other is Powell.

Seems to have a much better pulse of the game and the team. Not needing to call a specific defense on 4th and 1 - reminding them to get the safety in. All good stuff.

Noting that NRC has been our best and Darby has been our worst - the opposite of last year's performance - saying Darby has allowed the only two TDs our nickel package has surrendered.
3 passing TDs. In 6 games. Even if you throw out the pats game. 3 passing TDs in 5 games. Still pretty impressive.
And of those 3 - 2 were broken coverage plays to Wallace and Smith.
-
Indeed. That would be quite amusing.
I think it would be more amusing - if none of them did... and we still obliterated them.
My least favorite Bills' uniform combination. Nonetheless....Go Bills!!!
White jerseys and blue pants Sunday down in Miami Go #Bills
#Bills practice all wrapped up. Thoughts on McCoy, Gillislee, Woods, Shaq Lawson, and Justin Hunter are all here: https://t.co/47DmF6r3r2
Agreed - White on white, or blue on white. That's what i like. The all red is fine for the once a year.

If we're without woods, spreading the field will become an issue. Clay is too valuable as an in-line blocker for us to split him out wide all game long. Bush in the slot running a few different routes or a few different plays can help us. Especially if we find ourselves behind.
If McCoy can't go, Gillislee and Williams should still see the majority of the carries, but I'd like to see Bush get some snaps.
-
Depth is incredible on this team except WR. Spikes is too good to just sit, but he looks a little out of place there. Maybe he just needs more reps.
Put spikes at WR... obviously.
-
Reggie Bush time... Been saving him for this one.
-
Mario requires 7 players in coverage, a running start at the QB, 2 pro bowl DTs to his left, and 3rd down to get sacks.
To be fair - he has Suh and Wake. They're pretty good...
-
12 million well spent!!

Brandon Spikes played 16 snaps against the 49ers, oddly enough, most of those snaps were as an edge setter. Also against the 49ers, McCray played 21 snaps and Humber with 12.
Obviously there will be plenty of opportunities to ease Shaq into the game, I for one, can't wait to see him in action.
Also Zach brown missed a few plays earlier in the game so i imagine Humber stepped in there. I think Mcree and Spikes are out of the rotation, and purely depth at this juncture.
-
Landry and Mettenberger. There's talent there, but i just see INTs.
-
I don't have an issue with that approach to tell you the truth.
My only point is that this team needs to have a better plan in place than Seymour or Corey White if they let Gilmore walk.
I like the idea of picking up a cap casualty...guys that I think may fit the bill are Sam Shields, Brandon Carr, Lardarius Webb, Jason McCourty, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and Alterraun Verner.
As to re-signing our own, I don't see a major need to re-sign Mills or Brown. While I like the way Mills has played, he was a 5th round pick that was a mid-season waiver wire pickup. There's a good chance that either Kouandjio or Henderson can play that spot, and absent that, I think there's a better chance that a mid-round rookie or mid-level veteran FA can come in and take that spot. There are a number of guys that will be available in FA that are similar to MIlls.
I like Zach Brown quite a bit, and while I'd like to see him re-signed, he's having a big year and will probably be expensive. If they can get him for $5M/year or less, I'd take it and then let Preston Brown walk in favor of Ragland after next season.
No question that WR is a big need next offseason. I also think that safety is a big need, with Aaron Williams likely to be the only guy back. Graham's release will save quite a bit of money, and he simply hasn't made many impact plays.
Graham and Kyle are the most likely two. 3.1 in dead money for about 10 million in net space. Plus the 6 we carry over thats 16 mil in space, plus whatever we were under the cap before. Certainly enough to play with to get some receivers, and a new corner.
-
Yes, he's significantly better than Corey White
Maybe.
In the 2013-2015 drafts (I just picked 3 years worth of data), there were 24 total corners drafted in rounds 2 and 3. Here are the guys that (from what I can recall) made legitimate year 1 impact:
Ronald Darby
Quinten Rollins
Phillip Gaines
Darius Slay
Robert Alford
Logan Ryan
Here's the list:
http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?position=CB&type=position
There may be 1 or 2 guys that were impactful that I didn't list, so feel free to check me on that. If I'm correct, then that's 6 out of 24 (25%) that had a real impact in year 1.
Thats probably about the same or similar hit% in that round in general. I just worry about giving a big contract to a guy who seems to be in it for himself, doesn't tackle well, and can be inconsistent. We'll have a ton of holes at WR, as well as Mills and Z.Brown to re-sign.
It stinks to lose a good player, but there will be players released from contracts who we could target at that position, as well as wide receiver. By going after guys who are released, instead of free agents, we can keep the comp pick we'd get for gilmore.
Our WR depth chart next year:
Watkins
Listenbee
Powell

I just don't think he's that much better than what we could get for less than half of what he wants. I think he's good, maybe even great at his position. But Corey white was a 680K cap hit this year... Is he significantly better than him?
Can we find a guy in the 2nd or 3rd who can step in and contribute? Probably. I'd rather keep Z. Brown/lorax and use that money on other people/positions.

They do have a clear road to the super bowl.
1 - They currently have the best record in the league, and are a game up on everyone. They'll probably be 2 up on Pittsburgh + the tiebreaker after this week.
Then they get the Jets twice, Miami, 49ers, and rams. Those are slam dunks for them. That right there puts them at 11. They'd need to lose to Buffalo, Seattle, Denver, and Baltimore to finish 11-5. They will win at least 2 of those. That gets them 13. Which will probably take home field in the AFC.
2 - They have the best QB in the league, and their team is relatively healthy unlike last year.
3 - They're money at home.
4 - In the playoffs, if they take home field, they will go to the super bowl.
-
I've said it before - Kendall Wright. The Titans seem to have soured on him for whatever reason, but he'd be a perfect fit in this offense.
He just had a huge game with mariota. That team just has a Mularkey problem.
-
It doesn't have to be one thing.
My view on last year was he tried but was badly utilised up until the Wembley game.
After that I felt like he totally mailed it in and the stats told the same story. Whilst he didn't have the success of previous years his sack and tackle numbers up to the Jags game were a darn sight better than his numbers after that.
However, having watched him this year I think not being put in ideal position to make plays, plus him quitting on the season was also exacerbated by a physical decline.
Top end pass rushers (which Mario in his prime unquestionably was) are often like top end Quarterbacks. There is no steady decline... there is cliff and the drop is steep and sudden.
I think Mario is finished.
He's certainly not getting another 12 million
-
I think they likely do as well because there are not enough options that make the risk / reward worth it. I'd give up a 3rd for a year and a half of Jordan Matthews though at $1.5m cap hit. I at least make that phone call if I am Whaley even if the response from Philly is a flat "no deal".
I think if they were worse it may be an option - but he's currently Wentz favorite target. I'd try and keep my rookie QB happy if it were me.
Having 3 receivers on the PS also makes me think we're trying to have guys ready should someone go down.
-
Schopp and the Bulldog were talking about his last night. My view is that you wait until after the Miami game before you seriously consider trading (and giving up assets) for a receiver.
If you win that game you are 5-2 with the two toughest remaining games on your schedule (you are to an extent playing with house money against NE and Seattle) coming up, followes by the bye. So even if worst case scenario you were 5-4 coming off that run you would have had 4 weeks to get your new guy in the play book and up to speed ready to contribute down the stretch. If you lose to Miami the season is probably not going to be a playoff year so you roll with what you have.
Who is out there as an option? Jeffrey is one (probably at a high cost 3rd rounder maybe? And then there is making his cap hit work), at a much lower cost what about Ted Ginn Jnr? Had a nice year as a deep threat in a similar offense in Carolina last year. Might get him for a 6th or 7th and he would be better than Goodwin. The other one that really intruiges me is what would it take to get Jordan Matthews out of Philly? I know he is their best receiver but he was a Chip pick not a pick made by this regime and they have a hell of a difficult schedule still to come. The fact they made the Bradford trade tells me that for the right price this team is willing to trade assets this year to be in a position to build the strongest possible team around Wentz long term. They might slap you straight down I accept but if I was going to make trade phone calls he would be the first call I'd make.
I think barring a bunch of injuries, we likely roll with what we have. We added hunter, and we have people on the PS if we need them.
We already have no 4th (Ragland trade) and no 7th pick this year (we do have the extra 5th from the cassell trade). I don't think we do much at the deadline. The draft is how you stay under the cap, and stay relevant year in year out.
Losing a 3rd round pick trading for a receiver we can't re-sign just costs us a contributor next year.
To get future picks and upgrade their weak defense.
Is trading him for a 3rd that much better than what they get in compensatory picks if he walks? Maybe a little bit, but none of the front office will be around to use it if they hit rock bottom. And you lose the option of re-signing him.
-
Yea, bad deal for the team. Is there any chance "toke" can at
least get in football shape and contribute to the defense?
We just up fronted him so much money to sign. Spread that over a few years of cap hits and you're absolutely stuck with the guy.
-
Trade Dareus. There. I said it.
You can't. Ud go over the cap this year. You can't even really trade him next year either... the cap hit is higher than just keeping him
-
Why would they trade Jeffrey? They can tag or extend him and he's young.
-
We've been using Spikes to set the edge more and more, my guess would be that he's affected more by Shaq's return than Lorax
I like the rotation of people we use. PB/ZB seem to play mike/will the whole game even when we switch to a nickel - i think humber is probably relegated to teams/primary inside backup. Spikes has seemed to be playing run downs - and more against running teams. Lawson may take some of these snaps away. Other than that the d-line rotation will probably just add dareus in for a good half of the snaps to start. Not sure, but i think someone ends up on IR to make room for Shaq.

Well having pulled my hamstring a few times - You really can't run very well. As for Watkins foot - he was playing with it... just constantly limping around so what was the point? He wasn't the player we needed him to be.
