  1. Analystics in football is the most overrated thing ever. There are analysts that have stats that will have you believe Alex Smith is a better qb than Brett Farve. Sorry nerds, football still isn't for you.

If there is any information to help you, you should use it. But football will always be more of a feel type game. Don't be afraid to be your own coach. If I was in charge, I'd consider going for it on every reasonable 4th down once I crossed the 50.

Wow. Aloof, Haughty, Superior, and a gaslighter for people who think differently than you. Amazing! Internet does bring out the inner-bully in alot of people.

  2. Give him a look. If anything. he brings veteran presence to the locker room. Besides, he bleeds Buffalo colors, loves the city, loves the fan base, has been completely loyal to this team, and is one of the genuine good guys in the league.

Love the Bills for doing this. I hope Fred Ex has one more go at the field and proves all these "he's done" people wrong. I hope he rushes for 300-500 and catches for 200-400 as a backup. Dude could run, catch, and block. Let's see what he's got left.

Remember, he was an after-thought a long time ago and look what he did with the opportunity.

  3. Thread translation:

I've got nothing better to do than call people trolls and praise the Bills for everything even though they have not made the playoffs in 17 years

I'm clueless, the Bills have been a great team for years...with great QBs.

"Fans" like this make me sick to my stomach. Unless there is an all-pro at every position like when you play Madden, the Bills are doomed.

Let's see. Fans gave Collins, Van Pelt, Johnson, Losman, Edwards, and Fitzpatrick more time than they have given Taylor (or for that case Manuel). People were on TT's jock from the signing. Fans were on Manuel's jock at the drafting (like he had control over his draft pick).

But "fans" in Buffalo gave those other guys more time before they put them on the hook. Hell, Captain Checkdown wasn't called that until his third season. People have been on TT's case since his third game. I wonder why. I wonder what is similar between all those other guys and what makes TT and Manuel so different.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. . .

Now I am preparing to be insulted and told how wrong I am without a shred of logic to prove me wrong.

Next time you're at the QB store, grab a couple. Spend extra for the "franchise" model.

Exactly. This is the best response to the troll.

  4. I think the blame for the Bills' horrendous record from 1970 through 2014 rests squarely on the shoulders of the late Ralph Wilson, Jr. He was the constant through that entire period, and he was an active owner. Wilson's success in the AFL with winning championships on shoestring budgets seemed to have colored his attitudes towards running the team, and he was always cutting corners to save money, preferring profits to wins.

All during the 1970s and 1980s, the Bills drafted poorly and often failed to sign the good draft picks they did make: OJ Simpson held out into the regular season I believe; Tom Cousineau went to play in Canada rather than play for the Bills; and Jim Kelly preferred the Houston Gamblers of the WFL to the Bills. The coaching staffs were abominations. Except for Lou Saban in the mid 70s stint and Chuck Knox in the early 80s, these guys were even worse than the coaches since Wade Phillips left.

Low attendance finally forced Wilson to put a "football guy" in charge of the team. That would have been Bill Polian, who actually brought the Bills organization up to modern day standards. However, Wilson and Polian had a falling out, and Polian departed for Indy.

Polian imperfectly understood how to manage the salary cap, but his astute eye for talent overcame that. John Butler and AJ Smith were Polian's proteges, and they kept the Bills talent pool alive for a few years after BP left. When they left to build a powerhouse in San Diego in the early 2000s, there was nobody in the Bills organization who had a good understanding of how to manage the salary cap while maintaining talent ala New England, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore. Actually, there was nobody at OBD who could competently manage the salary cap OR recognize talent, as the team's crappy record from 2001 through 2014 demonstrates.

The Pegulas have only had about 2 years of ownership, and they didn't make a good start with falling for Ryan's BS. Hopefully, they'll learn from their mistake.

Shhh. . .I said that a few years ago. One of the mods started stalking me, harassing me in PM and even gave me a warning point for saying what you just said.

  5.

It's not the same thing dude. Coaches and players get paid millions in salary. They can work a few years and be set for life if they are smart with their money. Some of the other guys in the office earn blue collar wages. That is the main difference. Kirby has worked there. So I am guessing he knows examples of the guys who got canned. Don't be a dick about it.

But they are still people with families. Come on. . .taking what was said at face value, we should feel bad when an UDFA gets cut and "fired." I didn't see weeping when Da'rick Rodgers was cut and "fired." Or any cuts for people who aren't "brand name" athletes. Where is the sympathy for the UDFA or the low level assistant coach? I mean they have families too. Let's set up a thread crying about their firing.

Won't happen, because those people are expected to perform. Well, so are scouts. They fail at their job. . .there's the door. Welcome to the NFL. It's the same in my field. The record or movie doesn't sell, the artist and producer are out on their butts. I don't see people crying when that happens. Not every singer is Beyonce, not every producer is Robert Evans, and not ever actor is Brad Pitt. Most I know are "making blue collar wages" as character actors in bit parts.

I don't believe people deep down the roster make "millions of dollar."

  6. I usually try not to be overly sensitive here but this is beyond appalling. I know many of these people and they have wives and kids. They are good people. It's part of the business but to celebrate them losing their jobs is disgusting. These are guys that have to go home and tell their spouses that they no longer have a job. They aren't rich by any means and did their best to improve the team. There were hits and there were misses. It is a part of the business but an awful part (not one to be celebrated). Stay classy

And you weren't happy when Wade, Williams, Jauron, Gailey, and Ryan were fired? Come on. . .they are good people. They have to tell their spouses they no longer had jobs.

How about players that get cut? I didn't see any weeping when Mario Williams, Mike Williams, JP Losman, Trent Edwards, Rob Johnson, etc. . .got cut from this team? People were celebrating those "firings."

Come on. . .save the lamentations for the ignorant.

  7.

The Bills just gave EJ Manuel 4 years to develop into something... How many more years would you like to give him? Taylor and Jones are still on the roster last I looked, so your "melanin" argument doesn't hold water... Also, if I am not mistaken, two of the four QB's talked about as possible draft options (Watson and Kizer) share that same "melanin" condition you spoke of...

As I recall Manuel lost his job to Orton when our ex-coach (Marrone) basically demanded that Whaley go out and get him somebody "competent" to play the position... Apparently that wasn't EJ... And if the Bills do go out and draft one of these kids in the 1st round it will be further confirmation that Cardale Jones is not viewed by management as a viable option at QB either... Having a strong arm is no indicator of future success. It's what's inside the QB's head that matters, his dedication to becoming one of the best, and other intangibles... OH, BTW did you know that QB's aren't the only 1st round draft picks that BUST??? Go back to 2013 and see how many other players are still starting for their respective teams...

Sarcasm is lost on you. Don't worry. If another "melanin conditioned" QB is brought in and isn't Joe Montana, Steve Young, Brett Favre, or Jim Kelly after his first snap, other Bills fans here will demand them be cut instantly too.

  8. Has he shown anything this far indicative of a canton bust in his future?

One whole half of professional football in a game the team sort of packed it in. Yeah, he's a bust.

Unless we have a QB that has a season QBR of 158.3, we go 16-0 and win each game with the QB throwing for 350 yds, 4 TDs, no picks and runs for another TD, Bills fans are fast to cut a QB loose. Especially since Fitz, with the exception of Orton. Bills fans gave Fitz more time than they gave Manuel, Taylor, or Jones. I wonder why. Maybe that melanin condition the three have is the underlying factor.

  9. We always tend to look at numbers, size, speed vertical jump, etc...

But I'm a true believer in drafting the person first. Yes numbers are important but in the NFL they mean nothing if you're not the whole package.

Not saying this is my pick @ 10, because I'm leaning towards Haason Reddick with a trade down or even this guy as well. I feel Haason is a high Character player as well.

These are the type of guys I want.

Because all these choir boys have gotten us how many playoff berths since 2000?

You want that? Go to church. I want a winner and I don't care. The Cowboys beat us twice in the Super Bowl with a team of near felon, drug addicts, and the most odious of people. John Elway was one of the biggest jerks in the NFL (still is). Brady cheats.

The choir boys that win are exceptions, not the rule. Even the 1986 Mets were not a team of choir boys. Keith Hernandez almost went to prison. The 1985 Bears, Madden's Raiders, Peyton was accused of sexual misconduct in college but a team nurse (unsubstantiated). Big Ben WAS accused of rape.

Enjoy choir boy mentality. If a coach cannot control his players, he needs to find a new job in a new line of work.

  10. Based on what exactly?

I love the consistency of opinions. We want the Bills to take flyers on project players based on their upside. Then we are done with them when they don't make rookie of the year.

Based on the same reason TT is a failure. What do Cardale and Taylor have in common? People gave Losman, Edwards. . .hell, people gave Van Pelt and Johnson more time than TT and Cardale.

Anyone with half a brain and eyes can guess why? But don't worry, the denials will come as soon as I say this.

If only they weren't QBs without a melanin problem. I mean, Orton didn't get as much grief and he couldn't wait to get out of town.

  11. With the Bills only being relevant for part of the season for much of the last two decades, it's really been hard to stay a fan of the NFL. This only makes it harder.

Just put the ball down, high five your teammates and get ready for the next offensive series. Who cares about this? Showboating is pathetic and then we tell our children to display sportsmanship when the professions show none.

Imagine celebrating with a dance each time you score a run in baseball, or hit a foul shot in basketball. Hockey I can understand since 9.5 out of 10 shots are usually blocked. Martin Grammatica did that crap each time he hit a kick. It's pathetic. Just put the ball down or give it to the referee, high five, and go back to the sidelines.

  12. I haven't posted a lot this past week because I haven't been able to decide how I feel about all of these changes. I know that Rex had to go. I am good with Whaley staying. I'm unhappy with TT being gone, if that's what happens.

But overall, I just can't seem to find anything to get excited about with any of these Head Coaches, FA, or Draft. All three of these areas seem to be a matter of better than nothing.

With Head Coaches, no one really jumps out at me. I was hoping Todd Haley would be a candidate, but he's not being mentioned for any team. None of the coordinators had a truly amazing season. Mike Smith is the only coach that had previous head coaching success and he's not on our radar. Defensively, we will only get better without Rex. But offensively, I'm very worried about creating a new offensive identity. That is, unless we somehow retain Lynn as OC, which is rare for a new head coach to do. As for Lynn, there is just too much he doesn't know about being a Head Coach and I DO NOT want to rebuild

FA is rough because we have so many players we need to re-sign, that I don't see us being able to make a splash. Lorax should get paid, but he's also up there in age. Zach fell off a cliff in the second half. I DO NOT think Gilmore is worth what he will get elsewhere. Woods is bound to get overpaid as well. Regardless, losing them still creates holes that would need to be filled. So it's a catch-22.

This draft looks to be incredibly average to me at positions of need, being WR, RT, QB (if TT is gone), S, and DB (If Gilmore is gone). The draft is the reason why I wish we could magically have all of our players extended on more year with a new defensive coach. Our talent level was good enough for the playoffs. If we had our same roster, same OC, added Mike Williams, a starting RT and S, I think we are in the playoffs.

Unfortunately, I can't see how we can keep the parts that worked, improve in areas we need, and plug the holes being made through attrition.

    Well, that was depressing. Sorry

A humble coach that doesn't make his system so complex that you need a PhD to understand it

A QB with an accurate arm that can run. I don't care if it's a cannon. . .just be accurate. 20 yard passes are just as good as 50 yard passes and have a better chance of being completed.

A defense without a soft underbelly that doesn't give up 200 yard games.

A coach with cajones to fine and admonish his players rather than running Club Paradise in the locker room.

A third option at WR that isn't made of glass and a system that can effectively use a TE in the passing game for 50-60 catches a year, especially in the red zone.

Being at least 6 - 2 going into the 9th game of the year with a Top Ten defense and a Top 15 offense.

A strength and conditioning coach that actually does their job so half the starting roster isn't on IR second week of preseason games.

  13. Jesus, the only way to appease Bills fans sometimes:

If the QB isn't 300 yards, 3 TD pass and 50 yds rushing everyday, he sucks.

With the Bills running game, 200-225 yds passing with efficiency (something TT still needs to work on, seeing how he is just a second year starting QB) and a TD pass or two thrown in is ample for production at the QB position for this team.

Buffalo has never been a pass first offense. Even in K-Gun, Thurman was the #1 option.
