  1. Spiller is a fun toy on a mediocre team. If you wanna be good your running back has to take a three yard gain when it is there, and not run sideways to imaginary holes.

Whaley is behaving as if he thinks the Bills will be good-hope he is right. Therefore, Spiller is gone before the season starts. Running back by committee is the plan. Hoping to get our No#1 back for next year.

  2. How good Manuel is, will be, should be .... blah blah blah. He ain't-yet. He also can't stay on the field. Draft QBs until you find one.

If you end up with two, trade one. If the competition bothers Manuel he isn't competitive enough.

Also, no one should have to be Bill Polian or have 8,000 posts to make a comment here. People with professional qualifications are not blogging on the internet.

  3. I don't see how EJ or Marrone is a significant step up from Fitz and Chan-as yet. Except Fitz wasn't going to get any better, and EJ may, might, hopefully get better. Yet, Fitz was more durable. Does it matter how good EJ is if he can't stay on the field? Marrone is a better talker and has attracted a significantly better Defensive Coordinator. Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of the old regime, but the only real positives I see from EJ and Marrone is that the are young and may get better. Wait till next year-again...

  4. I thought the story has always been that the Bills will be sold to the highest bidder?

I believe if the team ends up in Ralph's estate the person who inherits will have pay a massive capital gain tax. If the team is sold to pay that tax it is required to go the highest bidder. That's how the Robbies lost the Dolphins. Although it is his right, Ralph is doing us a real disservice hanging on to the team until his death.

  5. I wasn't aware that the Rogers Group was so adamant about buying the Bills. With that kind of money bidding it is less likely that Kelly's secret group can compete. They better get an ironclad contract before they build a dome stadium downtown. When we built Rich Stadium that was so screwed up we paid Cottrell for a dome that never even got built. Although few remember that.

  6. I think that chip is something many great competitors have. He did put his money where his mouth was (no reference to Rachel Welch issue) and form the Negro Industrial and Economic Union along with Jabbar, Ali, and Bill Russell. This was designed almost as a private bank to help black start-up businesses. So I guess I'd give him some slack, but he did always seem angry/intense to me.

The Rachel Welch thing... go for it!

  7. The trade-downs that I've heard mentioned the most often, from most likely to least:

    1. Minnesota. They have the #23 and #25 in RD1, and their top 2 priorities are CB and DT43. Our bait would be Xavier Rhodes, Star Lotulelei, and Sheldon Richardson at 8. Minnesota has also been rumored to want to leapfrog Chicago. The other trade involves the #23, #52, #83 and #102 for our #8 and #41 (less attractive IMHO).

    2. Cowboys. They have #18 and #47, and their top 2 priorities are DT43 and DE43, Bjoern Werner, Ziggy Ansah, Star Lotulelei, and Sheldon Richardson are the bait to net those two picks.

    3. San Francisco. They have #31, #34, #61, #74, #93 in the first 3 rounds, and their top priorities are TE, FS, SS, DE34 and DT34. Eifert, Ertz, Vaccaro, Sly Williams, Datone Jones, and Jesse Williams would be gone where they pick.

    4. Cincy. They have #21 and #37 and their top 2 priorities are SILB, SS, CB and RB. Kenny Vaccaro and Xavier Rhodes would be the bait for them.

Bills' Minnesota tradedown mock for the Minnesota #23 and #25 pick, using DraftTek's Simulator:

1 23 Arthur Brown ILB Kansas State ---Bills visit

1 25 Johnthan Banks CB Mississippi State ---Bills visit

2 41 Tyler Wilson QB Arkansas ---Bills visit

3 71 Terrance Williams WRF Baylor

    4 105 William Campbell DE34 Michigan

5 143 Gavin Escobar TE San Diego State

    6 177 Buffalo Ty Powell OLB34 Harding

The other MIN trade gives us:

1 23 Tavon Austin WR WVU

1 25 Kevin Minter ILB LSU

2 53 Robert Woods WRF USC

3 71 Tyler Wilson QB Arkansas

3 83 Terrance Williams WRF Baylor

4 102 Travis Kelce TE Cincinnati

4 105 Terron Armstead OT Arkansas - Pine Bluff

    5 143 Malliciah Goodman DE34 Clemson

6 177 Cobi Hamilton WRF Arkansas

Well thought out piece. Trading down to get picks is a great way to start rebuilding a team. You just have to "right" on some of them.

  8. Excellent explanation, best I've seen. I'd like the Bills to go one way or the other. Dump a few vets (Freddy Jackson, and Kyle Williams possibly), or trade down for picks this year and next. Otherwise go for it a little more in free agency this year. This half and half stuff is how we keep ending up at the "middle of the road" hell we have been in.

  9. 8 days into FA people.

I'm not sure all the FA's are waiting around until Buddy gets around to it. My concern is that without any signings they are locking their draft up, and forcing themselves to draft certain positions. That kills Buddy's "best available" concept. Or they can wait and collect all the refuse left over. My source was overthecap.com-but could be wrong.
