  1. just curious why the OP left Cam Newton off the list.

He is on every list of first round graded QBs you find by all of the draft experts.

He has unique physical skills and has won 2 national chanpionships and started every game over the last 2 seasons.

I would be interested to hear why you would not even consider him 'worth drafting'

+1, I don't think I like him at 3, but if he slips to the 2nd he's the only one I like.

  2. I am going with Kaepernick anywhere after first and Robert Quinn at 3.

I'd be ok with Quinn i guess, better than VM. Kaepernick scares me as a JP Losman type...

Hmmm. Maybe a roughie, how about Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State. Remonds me of Michael Vick, except White

Uhh, what? Not seeing it, Ponder is somewhat mobile...but Vick? Ponder is one of the most average QB's being talked about in the draft, and he was on a historically good FB team with solid recruiting. Vick at least looked good in college, watching ponder reminded me a lot more of Trent Edwards....

  3. To win the SB you need a good QB AND a good defense. One but not the other will render you an also ran.

That's probably a good recipe most of the time.

However the Ravens won in 2000 with Trent Dilfer. And who can forget getting beat by, uhh, Jeff Hostetler.

I think its more of a matter of a team needing MANY good players at different positions. Marino was great, but never had much help around him. A superstar QB makes up for a lot of short comings, but you still need a solid TEAM to win the SB.

  4. I would be happy if the Bills take Newton at 3.

It would be great to trade down and get extra picks and still get Newton. But if he is the pick at 3, I would be thrilled.

I really think he has the potential to be a great QB in the NFL.

That being said, the QB that I think the Bills end up taking is Ponder. After reading and hearing about his connections to Gailey and Modkins and his very strong performance in the Sr Bowl, I am really starting to think he is the target for the Bills 2nd rd pick. Fortify the defensive front 7 in Rd1 and land Ponder in Rd2. Not bad.

Oh god, no Ponder...Please. I've watched him play and he looked average at best in college, even on a team that is normally stacked with talent. Hey played ok against bad schools then looked awful against the good ones. Against Oklahoma he went 11-28 for 113 yards and 2 int's. He actually reminds me of another Brian Brohm, just not as good.

  5. 1) I don't recall ANYONE saying that about Brees, and to the contrary, I think many thought of the Chargers as winners by using their picks to secure both LT and Brees - as opposed to just Vick.

    2) How can a 6th rounder bust? It's like a lottery ticket. You expect nothing special; success means you hopefully get your dollar back, maybe a little bit more; and actually winning merits an insane celebration.

Actually there were plenty of people saying that about Brees, thats why he fell to the second round despite looking great in college.

I knew someone was going to say there can't be a bust in the 6th round, and I understand that thinking. My point was that despite a great college career, not many people though he could succeed in the NFL. I am not saying we should take cam with the 3 pick (we shouldn't IMO!), I am just saying their is no way anyone knows whether he will be a "bust" yet or not. IMO he made some great throws during year with very few mistakes, and great mobility (needed behind an O-line like ours). If he falls to the 2nd, its worth a shot.

  6. This by far is the funniest thread in a while on here, that people read it, well, whats wrong with us? My god, if I had to guess it is like 1 person has 3 or 4 names and bumps this evey hour. Cam Newton is a joke and will be a bust much like Leaf, Russell, Young, or Couch.

Thats what they said about Drew Brees and Tom Brady...

Having said that, I wouldn't take him at 3...If he falls to the second round, then yes...

  7. Claussen fell because everyone new he was not a lock to begin with. Von Miller is a considered "the" best 3-4 OLB in this draft something that is very hard to find. He had 21 tackles for a loss in his junior season and 17.5 in his Senior season so don't go pontificating about how he can't play the run. I'm not even going to talk about how many sacks he has rung up. Point is, he will go very early. No one in this draft is going to rush to get a QB because there just isn't much talent there. There are some very good Defensive linemen but this is the deepest draft I have seen in a while. Some teams will go that route but Von Miller has proven many many times that he is a gifted athlete and will not be overlooked by any team. No later than 6th pick.......that's my story and I'm sticking with it. We can revisit this thread if you like.

"Claussen fell because everyone new he was not a lock to begin with" - Everyone except the so called experts I guess, who all had him going in the 1st.

"Von Miller is a considered "the" best 3-4 OLB in this draft" - In your opinion. many people like Quinn at OLB. Also, many people think VM is better suited to ILB in the pros due to his size.

"He had 21 tackles for a loss in his junior season" - Aaron Maybin had a great year too...

I don't doubt at all that VM is a gifted athlete, he was a tremendous college player. There are a lot of gifted athletes at many positions in this draft, and it is only February...Aaron Rodgers was mocked as the #1 overall pick going into the draft in most circles...but he kept sliding. I guess it's also because "everyone new he was not a lock to begin with". Every year there are surprises with guys that rise or fall, especially with predictions made before the combine. My point is just that to say he is a "lock" for a top 6 pick at this point is a little ridiculous, especially a guy with a major question mark (size).

  8. Miller will be off the draft board before the 6th pick. Just who do you think we're going to trade back with?

Lol, I know most of what we are talking about is wild speculation, but it's tough to make a blanket statement like that and say VM will be gone by pick 6. Most of the news I have heard doesn't even have him as the "consensus top LB" (Quinn?), just "top ten potential". He could go #2, or he could run a 4.8 in the combine and slip to the second round. No one knows.

Claussen was a "lock" to go in the first round last year...

Remember the annual videos of Thurman Thomas sound asleep, being picked WAY later than predicted?

  9.

    KG1:

    QB - JKelly

    RB - TThomas

    WR - AReed

    C - KHull

    KG2:

    QB - CNewton

    RB - Spiller

    WR - SJohnson

    C - EWood

Umm...this is kind of like comparing the LA Lakers to the LA Clippers...

Sure it would be exciting if we drafted Cam, but it was "exciting" when we picked up Rob Johnson too... There are too many holes on this team, I just don't see how a raw QB could survive. Now if we get him in the second round (very real possibility, remember Claussen as a possible top 5?)...then thats a different story.

  10. Where can I get a video of someone curling 237 that is a lot of weight when most guys can only bench maybe 50lbs more.

If we draft Miller and let him play along with Merriman with Moats spelling Merriman I think our OLB would be stacked. Miller has good cover skills and can play the run with Merriman and Moats being the rushing backers all we would need then would be 2 good ILB and are D would be good again

Stacked? Lets not get carried away lol. I think we are all hoping Merriman is healthy and effective, but that is a BIG question mark. Moats is an ok pass rusher, but not an every down backer. And I just don't see a small guy like VM making a difference without LARGER play makers around him. We have been doing the small speed backers for years...how's that working out.

  11. Our OLB corp will look a lot better w/ Moats as a backup/pass-downs player, too. And that's no knock on Moats either.

+1, Moats improved throughout the season (looked AWFUL early on), but he is built as a pass rushing specialist. He has short arms, and really struggled to tackle people in the open field (AKA, bad for the run D).

Having said that please no VM at #3! A guy that size might be able to be productive on a team with a big, experienced D line...But NOT behind ours. We need size and power. We signed Merriman to a decent contract, now we need to improve the front. Grab some LB's later on. I would even be happy with AJ green, we haven't had a legit #1 since Eric Moulds. SJ is decent, but has horrible hands and was a product of there being no one else to throw to.
