just one wish... Cam Newton goes #1 overall to Carolina.
-
Even with the poor record this year, those 84-85 seasons just felt so much more hopeless and painful. The bills just felt like they were never going to have a winning season. as a franchise goes, we were very fortunate to find another franchise QB in Jim Kelly so quickly after Joe Ferguson faded.
-
No CAM please. Buddy, if you're reading this NO CAM NEWTON.
Donte, I know you're reading this... tell Buddy Nix NO CAM NEWTON. Make it the last kind gesture you do for us Bills fans before you go.

It all boils down to money and the team's current success whether or not free agents want to come here. Enough of the "Buffalo is a crappy place to live" garbage. Yes the economy isn't great but that doesn't apply to NFL players who aren't affected by it.
If the biggest factor for players not wanting to play somewhere was the actual city, then lets look at where the NFL is currently that the cities are either cold places, or weak economies:
Cincinnati - cold and slow economy
Cleveland - cold and slow economy
Pittsburgh - cold and slow economy
Jacksonville - slow economy
Green Bay - very cold and no economy
Minnesota - very cold and very slow economy
Detroit - very cold and, well, it's Detroit...
Denver - cold and moderate economy
These are just the ones I can confirm, but tell me how Buffalo AS A CITY is any different.
Pay the players, and have a few decent seasons and this will no longer be an issue.
It wears me out to hear so much of the city bashing.

Over-react? Here? Surely you jest....

Forget the record for a minute and tell me this 2010 team was less exciting to watch than the 2009 version. With the exception of Bobby April's departure, the full house-cleaning was absolutely mandatory. You can't build a brick mansion on a sink hole.
2009 Bills - sink hole
2009 Bears - not a sink hole
2010 Bills 4-12
2010 Bears - 11-5
The Bears were a few good pieces away from making the playoffs, the Bills were an entire competent coaching staff and about 18 good pieces away from making the playoffs. This comparison isn't worth getting upset over, and inciting all the "Ralph is a cheap bastard" comments. We all know he is old and cheap, but this was comparing apples to dog ****.
-
I'm so tired of people like you not getting your facts straight. First of all I respect Mr Wilson for keeping the Bills in Buffalo but he has plenty of faults. He didn't "pay Jim Kelly and Bruce Smith because they performed' not at first. He gave Jim Kelly the highest contract of any NFL player at that time in 1986 to come to Buffalo from Houston from the defunct USFL. He paid Bruce Smith BEFORE the Bills even drafted him. Buffalo is NOT a shithole and I'm tired of idiots like you using that as an excuse. Players want to play for a WINNER. The Bills are not WINNERS! They want to play for great organizations. Go to Pittsburgh. Its not South beach. Its NOT a great city. Go to Green Bay. Bad. These teams play in very small markets yet they win because of the organization. Solid front office. Solid coaches. Ralph DOESN'T pay for that, rarely. Big names don't want to come because Ralph will not open his wallet to pay for asst and free agents. Thats why Shanny and Cower said no.Yeah you have to draft well, so what did he do with the one guy who drafted extremely well for Bills? Go ask the Colts who are in the playoffs every year.
I couldn't agree more with this, Buffalo is not a ****-hole, contrary to popular opinion around here... and the small market nonsense is way overplayed. Owners share profits on so many different income points, it makes the small market arguement weak at best. The WNY area does have less corporations that can invest in luxury suites and some of the advertising, and that's a fact, but by no means would that prevent a team from fielding a winner.
This debate boils down very simply to the owner not wanting to burden his family with debt, or very little profit once he passes, so in some cases, it is Ralph's fault, and in many others, it is poor front office decisions, but that can also be blamed on Ralph Wilson, since he will not pursue a top tier NFL front office, so as someone on here put it, BUST, BUST, BUST, and not the good kind.

When you've gotten used to excellence losing is not an option.
During the Bills glory days of the early 90's many a post game show following a win was littered with angry fans upset that the Bills win wasn't convincing enough.
It's all perspective.
I remember that very well, and Bills fans and media as well questioned the likes of Jim Kelly and Marv Levy. "Kelly throws too many interceptions", "Marv gets outcoached in big games", "It's time to see what Frank Reich can do", "Bruce Smith runs past too many plays trying to get sacks"....
Anyone else remember this stuff back then? Nobody likes to see their team lose, and when they do, all you are left with is doubt, and plenty of offseason to question everything to find the answer.
BUT, it is nice to see the cheatriots fans eating a little humble pie right now...

Before I list anything, the Buffalo Bills are already a "legendary franchise".
Since 1960, they are one of only two NFL franchises that are still owned by the same MAN, not just "family", that originally started the teams. (Wilson and crazy Al Davis out in Oakland, but Ralph has kept the Bills here since 1960, while Al has taken his Raiders down to L.A. and then back up to Oakland again.)
They are the only NFL team in the history of Super Bowls to play in 4 consecutive ones.
They are the only NFL franchise to ever play regular season games in Canada.
That makes them pretty legendary as far as I'm concerned, although losing all 4 of those SB's and taking home games out of RWS certainly is not the type of "legendary" for we fans that I know you really mean.
So here is my list of things to do so to speak, for the Bills to become "legendary" in the hearts and souls of we die hard Bills fans:
Long Term Goals:
1) Dump the games in Toronto after the original contract is up - forever. Let Toronto get their own team into the NFL if it thinks it would be such a great city to add.
2) Sign another 25 year lease with Erie County to remain here and play in RWS and then eventually in a new stadium to be built ONLY in downtown Buffalo - WITH a retractable roof like Indy has.
3) For #2 to ever happen, Western New York must come up with an ownernship group that will buy the team from the Wilson family after Ralph dies.
Short Term Goals for these Buffalo Bills to start winning again:
1) Sign at least TWO high quality free agents for the OL or the DL or at LB - THIS March, if the new collective bargaining agreement gets done. (If it doesn't get done by March 1st, the first day of UFA signing period, there most likely won't be a season in 2011.)
2) Draft a franchise QB....Gabbert, Locker or even Newton, this April.
3) Bring in Dave Waandstadt or another qualified defensive coach to replace or "oversee" George Edwards.....NOW....this off season.
4) Draft the very best available OT and DT along with the franchise QB this coming draft, with that high pick in each round.
I couldn't have said this better myself. The team does need to add an elite QB at some point, this is just unavoidable no matter how you feel about Fitzpatrick.

I find it unpossible to take this clown seriously.
-
I know this sounds a little cynical, but until there is a new CBA in place, nothing really matters. As of right now, there will be no games played in 2011, and God forbid Ralph is no longer with us before an agreement is reached, it is quite possible that we have all seen the last football played in western NY. There's no denying that, and especially since the stadium lease is up in 2012 with no signs of a new one on the horizon.
Sorry to be a downer, but this has been in the back of my mind all season, and this upcoming draft just doesn't excite me. Until the league figures things out, and some glimmer of hope shows it's face regarding the team's future in Buffalo, I just find it hard to be able to enjoy "future" prospects.
Slam me if you like, but ignoring that it's there doesn't make it go away, just like a cavity, or rust on a car.

I really could care less about him. His abilities and limitations are very clear, he is just not a great decision maker on or off the field, and if you think he has turned a new leaf, don't be so quick to think that. In front of a microphone and camera, he is mildly remorseful, and even that is transparent to me. Off the field he is still very much a self-proclaimed thug, likes to portray an image of a criminal with an entourage, and has an unrealistic opinion of himself which are all the behaviors that were present in the man that made those dog killing decisions.
So he played a few good games on a well coached team with lots of talent around him and a solid defense, lets give him an award. I am very glad he is not a Buffalo Bill, I just don't see him as a person of character.
-
Do not want Cam Newton. Way too many ifs, and with a #3 pick this team can't afford that. There's really no other reason to debate, since this team has missed so many times in the past decade on 1st rounders. This is a pocket passer league, plain and simple, and Cam newton is not. Even Michael Vick at his very best won't get you to the dance, so why waste your time with a run 1st qb?
-
For as little game time he had in the offense as the starting tailback, I find it hard to see where all the 2nd guessing is coming from. As a tailback, there wasn't a game where he was in enough to get into a rhythm, so when he did get a shot, he tried too hard to break it. With a stronger O-line everything would have looked better last year, so maybe in CJ's case we take a wait and see approach, he has way too much raw talent and achieved far too much in college to doubt him just yet.

I knew this reaction was coming as I saw the highlights on NFL Network, and thought "Ohh great, here we go with the Marshawn is awesome, and Nix/gailey are stupid" threads. I am not going to judge him or any other player on one game, or one season, let alone one run. Yes, the run was amazing, and since he is so slow and indecisive, every guy on defense had a crack at him, and maybe even a few more than once. I will say that on film it looked impressive, and he looked strong indeed, but my point here is that he has proven time and time again that he is not capable of doing that all the time, or even for games at a time. I will be the very last person on earth to miss him, simply due to the fact I never saw him as an elite back, and unless this marvelous run has converted him from now forward into an elite player, I don't see what the fuss is. I still believe the Bills did the right thing. The guy wanted out anyway. In case anyone has been paying attention, his stats have been average at best since the trade.

One team's garbage will be another team's garbage.
I live in Nashville currently, and have heard him many times in interviews. I can't believe after hearing some of these interviews that he even has the ability to read. For a position that calls for intelligence and quick thinking, I don't see how he would be a good fit anywhere.

1a. Fire Edwards and get new DC.
1b. Fire Tom Modrak
2. Stay away from Vince Young
3. Don't draft any players who haven't played at least 2 years of college ball.
4. Get stud Left Tackle and move Bell to Right Tackle.
5. Move Woods to Center
6. Either Urbik gets RG or find a new one. Hargartner backsup C/Guard.
7. Start Jackson from beginning but use Spiller on 3rd down and to spell Jackson more. Commit to the run more!
8. Find run stuffing middle linebacker.
9. Find a tightend, how about Fenner from Stanford.
10. FIND A PASS RUSHER!!!!
Obviously we need a QB for the future but Fitz starts next year. We are set at NT but need DE's. We are set at OL if Merriman is OK and use Moats more. We have our starters at all other defensive positions, could use better backup safeties. This team needs better backups everywhere.
Fixed.

This thread can't possibly be serious. Every time a crappy "never will be" QB seems to be headed for the garbage pile, someone on this board posts what a tremendous upside the bum has. yes, Vince Young is a very, and incredibly talented athlete but a good QB, seriously, no. I was quietly watching when people posted threads for almost every other QB out there, but this one takes the cake. Sorry, it just gets old. In the NFL(Most cases) one man's trash is another man's trash.

what previous NFL Great wide-out did you admire growing up, and who do you pattern your game after?
How do you want your career to be remembered:
1. as a great achiever who played for one team (Selfless)
2. a Me first showman who may attain great stats, but never built strong ties to one team/teammates
-
dunno. it's just an unwritten thing, like a code. like in baseball. you don't steal bases when you're up by 12 runs.
It's also been said "There's no crying in baseball" - So on the other side of the coin you have to accept the point "don't cry about it if you can't stop it"
-
I firmly believe the Spiller pick will be remembered for one of the best picks of the decade(I know, that's not saying much) but It's clear to me he can play, and has already flashed some serious talent. If we all remember, the knock on Thurman his first year was that he was small and underweight, but still managed to gain 881 yards his rookie year. If Spiller had been the featured back the entire year, we would have seen a modest output from him this year as well.

i'm still unsure as to why sunday's evisceration was fated to happen.
prior to the contest, i actually thought we were bound to win.
After so many close calls, I had a feeling a letdown was on it's way. What happens next will be interesting.

The team has been playing solid football lately, and beginning to come together on many levels. In more ways, they have been performing in most phases of the game higher than some of the top teams in the league, so much so, that the team was able to compete, and compensate for the worst rushing attack in the league. They even played quite well at times yesterday, but you could clearly see this game coming. They are a team very hungry to win games, and after the colossal let-down against the Steelers at home, seemed like a team pressing too hard at times. They are a prideful team that wants to win, and in time I firmly believe they will.
When you take into account a recent rash of injuries to starters on both lines, an area where the team has only begun to perform decently, but has very shallow depth from a talent perspective, then add in three recent week overtime losses to solid NFL top tier teams, and this tends to happen. Guys getting out of position, fumbling on plays, breakdowns on assignments, this was more a result of a team with a strong desire to win pushing too hard, and I do see it as a good thing, and a sign of good things to come.
They are learning to win, and with some depth at a few positions, and a few more players obtained at key positions, and it's not a far stretch to believe they are on the right track, but this loss was inevitable, and I hope the team does not hang their heads.
HOF vote on Saturday....

he had the best spike in the business, and by far the biggest impact to an offense for a wide receiver the league has ever seen, save for Jerry Rice.
