I came away from this wondering how the Browns ended up drafting Baker Mayfield over Allen.

Arent Manziel and Mayfield the same player?  Texas boys, good at playground football, a bit short, ocassional alcohol issues?  Surprised that they didn’t learn their lesson with Manziel.

but really glad they didn’t draft Allen17.

The Browns have had 17 starting QBs since they drafted Manziel in 2014.

What a shitshow of an org. But to be fair, there were a number Bills fans who wanted Mayfield over Allen.

  2. A few thoughts:

    1. In an era of streaming that shows 4-episode documentaries that should be 2, I found myself wanting more content from Johnny Football.
    2. Manziel came off as intellectually honest and likable.
    3. At the same time, I would've liked to have seen some regret for what he did to the Browns and for his parents to take some responsibility for his college-era shenanigans.
    4. Like others in the thread, I found myself rooting against him when he was drafted. Seemed like an entitled, vapid brat. (Turned out, he was sick).
    5. Of course the BROWNS drafted him.
    6. I kept wondering, why couldn't he just take a year off, get his head straight, and try again? Seemed like he just needed a break (and some counseling/treatment). Such a waste.
    7. Didn't see anything about his CFL days and thought they brushed over what he was doing now.
    8. What, no video of him playing dead in the end zone?
    9. Kudos to the TSW posters who showed their vulnerability about their bipolar issues.

  3. It would be nice to see the list separated by murders, rapes, stabbings, manslaughters, et all vs. DUIs, possession, nude jaywalking, etc.

    Some random stats:

    • The NFL has the most arrests and domestic abuse cases.
    • According to the FBI, the NFL arrest rate is 1 in 45. For context, the national average for non-players is 1 in 23.
    • The NBA has the highest number of felons.
    • The NHL has the fewest arrests.
    • WR Chad Johnson spent 30 days in jail for slapping the butt of his lawyer.
    • WR Plaxico Burress spent two years in prison for shooting HIMSELF
    • RB Najeh Davenport was charged with pooping in a girl's hamper.

    My Rocky rankings:

    I

    II

    IV

    III

    V

    Rocky Balboa

Rocky 4 is a fun guilty pleasure, especially for kids of the 80s Cold War era. But it’s a pretty bad movie objectively. Rocky 3 and 5 are unwatchable for me. Rocky 1 is a true classic. So gritty. The franchise got ridiculously campy.

  5. A few notes:

Cam Newton scared me every time he ran. He had zero intuition about how to take a hit and looked awkward when he did - like a giraffe galloping in the savannah. It's like you expected him to break his leg and end up under a herd of lions. A truly awkward presence on and off the field.

I second the comment about Elway.

Mike Vick was a bad passer with bad form.

Tyrod was "done as a starter" at 28 because he is of backup QB quality. He also had a freak injury caused by a DOCTOR.

I know Roethlisberger wasn't a "running QB" per se but he held onto the ball forever and took massive hits before getting a new OC mid-late-career, who instructed him to lose weight and get rid of the ball quickly. I'd say his career went pretty long. Of all of these QBs, I'd say Allen most closely resembles him, although JA's talent is across the board better.

  6. Got us over the hump but, as many here have said, he was even more cautious and risk averse than Trent Edwards.

The Cleveland Browns played him in only a few games the next year.

I'm sure most fans remember him fondly for the first playoff berth but, yes, he was frustrating to watch, particularly in that Jags game.

Having said that, we should've kept him one more year. The idea of Nate Peterman being a bridge clearly blew up in our faces.

  7. That's at least 12 people who have died this month in rip currents in the Gulf.

Don't swim against one. Swim parallel to the shore. Or, if you can, wait for help. A rip current will not pull you under, only out.

FWIW, I also wanted him as a Bill.
