  1. We need top rate quality players, the earlier the pick the better the chance of getting a stand out player. To get more second rate/depth players makes no sense at all. The first three picks are players we needed and were taken at good value when we picked them. If Dareus and Miller were both off the board for the first pick then trading back would be an option.

  2. I seem to remember reading some where that Moats will be used as a depth type OLB especially if the Bills draft say Miller with our #3 . Which wouldn't hurt my feelings !

Nix said Batten is going inside being tutored by Wanny , so if we draft Miller it could look like

Merriman , Batten , Poz , & Miller with the back ups being Torbor , Ayodele , Moats & Kelsay . Kelsay is definitely being paid to much to be a depth player . If by some chance they get say

M .Wilson in the second round i would say Kelsay could go because of his contract .

But with the addition of Wanny i think this year is going to be an up yea for the D & i can't wait !!

    Go Bills !!!!!

I think you right Wanny will make more of a difference than any one player will.. But, Kelsay is important when they run the 4-3 so he is more than depth.

  3. All that sounds good, but how much do you want to rely on players who have not been able to play the last 3 years. If we have 2 key guys that we are counting on and neither pan out it could be another long year on defense. I would agree if we can get sanders cheap it might be worth looking into, but I bet there is enough interest in him that he will not be signed cheap. I would love to see us sign 1 or 2 proven guys on defense that can step in and start. Then taking chances on unreliable players and new guys form the draft isnt so bad. With the way our D played last year and looking like its possible several starters will not be returning we need proven players not question marks.

  4. it'll probably remain a 4-3/3-4 hybrid that several successful teams employ, and which we employed to a certain extent last year...which means that players like Bowers shouldn't be dismissed from possible consideration.

+1 Chan has said that they will be a multiple front team.

  5. An argument can be made in each direction of this debate of physical freak vs high motor guy/intelligent athletes. Both of these types of athletes had their fair share of busts, but I'd take the physical freak any day of the week over the high motor/intelligent types.

When I look at our defense as a whole, I don't really see anyone that looks like a beast. Poz is pretty big, but he isn't a physical specimen. The guy is very stiff and lacks speed. I hope the Bills go after someone that looks and plays the part. You can teach a guy how to play football, but you can never take a guy that lacks physical tools and give him that.

Let's take a look at the our recent draft history of first and second rounders and see if any of these guys fit the mold of a "Goliath".

    2010

Spiller: Nope. Small guy that plays small.

Troup: average size DT. Nothing special about his size/speed.

    2009

Maybin: Does the stick man ring a bell?

    Wood: See Troup

Byrd: Small, not fast at all.

Levitre: Moved from his college position to guard because he lacked the ideal size.

    2008

McKelvin: Ideal size and speed. I still have hope for Leodis.

Hardy: Physical freak with good speed. How much did his injuries affect him?

    2007

    Lynch: Nothing special

Poz: same as Lynch. Too slow, as well.

    2006

    Whitner: Small

    McCargo: See Troup.

    2005

    Parrish: Smurf comes to mind.

As you can see, the Bills have focused on smaller players in the draft, as of late, and it has cost us dearly.

Hopefully, the Bills won't make these same types of mistakes in the upcoming draft and use our premium picks on intimidating, mean-looking sons of b*^$%^s, instaed of the smurfs we've been getting.

Since you are talking about all high round draft picks the answer is simple!!! Both, if you picking a top player in college football they should be a physical freak AND high motor guy with intelligence. Once you get to the lower rounds in the draft a compromise needs to be made.

  6. Another factor to consider is who can they get as a free agent. I would like to see some of the D needs taken care of by proven players that can step in and produce from day one. As Nix said they wont be able to fix all the problems in one draft.
