I dont get it...
If he were healthy for 17 games he would have had over 700 yards.
Is that really that bad for a 2nd round pick in his rookie year?

What draft capital would it have taken to draft 2 WRs that are better than the 2 free agents that are singed?

So we went from "we needed to sign Benford" to "we need to improve the defense" to "maybe he refused to come here" to "he sucks anyway."
0/10. No points for effort.
Thats lame....
My stance on big swings on D is unchanged.
But I dont claim to be smarter than the GM just speculated why they did not do what you think is best.
I didnt say he sucks I just posted his stats and contract.
I bet you quit your job years ago and now are siting back rich as hell after winning all the fantasy leagues....

Yeah DK definitely wanted to play in Pittsburgh with all their championship aspirations and their great QBs lol.
So you dont know... I saw it reported he wanted to play in a warm weather, Pitt is not warm but Buffalo has had games relocated due to snow, players having a hard time making it to the stadium due to snow and practices canceled due to snow. Every time I hear an interview of players asking what they know about buffalo the first thing they say "its cold there"
So we dont know if the guy would have signed here, unless you know something you arnt telling us.
Maybe Bean shares my opinion
Maybe Bean does not want to give up draft capital and a top 4 WR contract in the league to a guy that finished last year at;
39th in receptions
25 in yards
50th in TDs
51st in 1st downs
79th in YAC

I’m saying they could easily have done both.
They will also likely still try to do both. The Bills have 3 picks in the first two rounds. They will likely use one, maybe the first or maybe one of the seconds on an offensive player, like a WR.
So again, the argument comes down to what’s a better plan? Fixing the defense and improving the offense with 3 draft picks vs fixing the defense and improving the offense with 2 draft picks and DK?
Obviously plan #2
Once again you are obviously smarter than Bean...
To be the devils advocate how do you know Bean didnt make a play for DK? Maybe he didnt want to ply in Buffalo.

Nice retort. I must have really put you in a pretzel with that last one. It really sucks when it makes so much sense and there’s nothing you can do about it. I feel it all the time.
Its clear by your statements that you think Bean has done a poor job. I think he has been quite successful.
I believe the offense has been good enough the last several years, and the defense has been the letdown. I would like to see them prioritize fixing their weakness where you want them to add to their strength.

DK Metcalf.
Do you remember Josh going 9 for 30 against the Texans?
Dk is good for sure, and would love to have him.
But, the average of 30 million a year average many have made it that Benford could not have been signed. And the 2nd in the trade for DK that we are hoping will turn into a starter/contributor while being on a rookie contract.
The 20 points scored against the Texans should have been enough to win or at least take it to overtime. Defensive let downs that game, and scoring 40 points in the Rams game to lose kept the Bills out of the #1 seed. The Bills didnt get to play in the Super Bowl because the Defense let the Chiefs score more points than they did in any other game. The biggest problem of the 2024 season was not due to the WR position.
Remember the topic of this thread "Being a top 3 team in scoring. Does it matter how we do it?" My answer is NO.
The Bills Offense was #2 in the whole league in scoring points while the Defense was #7 in the AFC alone in points allowed.
I guess the differences in our opinions is where the Bills concentrate their available resources.

Lmao the fantasy football forum. Very funny.
See you in October when we have to desperately try to find an answer at WR again.
Fair enough, but my counter would be that it’s unlikely that a WR significantly better than Metcalf becomes available for anything other than 2 1sts starting price, which most would likely say is far too much to pay.
Sad that you reference last October, I remember how the Bills defense allowed the Texans to pass for over 110 yards over their average for the year. But, thats not too bad since Jax was the only team to give up more passing yards than the Bills.
I do have to ask, who do you think the Bills should have gotten at WR this offseason?

So who cares if Mack Hollins tier players have 100 yards less each if the offense is better? Are we working for Mack’s agent?
Josh Allen played the best football of his career from start to finish last year. Surrounded by a lesser supporting cast. That’s why he won MVP despite not having mouth dropping passing numbers.
Obviously I’m not arguing the 2024 offense wasn’t effective. I’m arguing two points:
the 2024 offense being great doesn’t mean we can’t or shouldn’t improve the offense
expecting Josh Allen to play perfectly every year is not a good strategy
Mahomes’ 2022 with lesser weapons than he was used was one of the all time great seasons by a QB ever. He was a one man show that learned to best cover 2 and be patient without Tyreek. His 2023 and 2024 were honestly awful comparatively. That’s what I would like to avoid. And sure they were in the SB both years but somehow our defense can never stop a nosebleed vs them.
That’s the point.
sure improve the defense. Cool. No problems at all. But when there’s no big fish to chase on defense, but there is on offense, don’t let good be the enemy of great.
The 2024 team scored a lot of points because they played an extra game and the defense turned it over a lot.
the 2020 offense had more PPG and more total yards.
I think you are posting in the wrong forum... This is a football forum, not a fantasy football forum.
I get your mad that they didnt make big swings on WRs who are almost making QB money. To say JA had to play a perfect season is nuts, his rating and completion % went down. He played great just like the last several seasons.
They did not have that sexy WRs you so desire, but JA got to play behind the best line of his carrier. But I know linemen are not drafted in fantasy football.
The lack of super star WRs was not the problem last year.
The Bills scored 40 points to lose a game.
In the AFC title game the Chiefs scored more points than any other of their 20 games of the season.

Respectfully, if you still think that after what we saw last season, I think you missed the point.
We played this game last offseason. Folks tried to bar napkin the math of how Josh could easily throw for 4000+ yards just spreading the targets around to non-Diggs players.
Of course, that’s not reality, because lesser players don’t get open as much, they don’t have favorable matchups as much, and they aren’t the #1 option on as many plays.
Khalil Shakir saw his targets more than DOUBLE between 2023 and 2024. He went from 45 to 100. He only had 200 more yards on much worse efficiency. If we had Jamar Chase getting those 55 targets, would we get more or less than 200 yards?
Obviously more.
Here’s another example.
The 2019 Bills passed the ball 14 more times than the 2018 Bills. But they had almost 400 yards more of passing offense. Why? Because of the quality of the receiving targets improved.
Sure, is it not exactly add a 1700 yard receiver and you get exactly 1700 yards more of offense?
Yes.
Would it considerably improve the offensive production?
Of course it would.
Would it make the offense 800 yards WORSE like @Ed_Formerly_of_Roch said?
Of course it wouldn’t and I really question the acumen of anyone who believes that.
Sorry but we have the data already.
the Bills offenses from 2020 - 2023 with a #1 WR had more yards than the 2024 Bills offense. They would never be 600-800 yards worse by adding a #1 WR. That’s crazy talk.
It seems that I read the post you quoted a little differently than you did. Chase would have helped the team have more total yards at the end of the year, but the bills other receivers would have had 600-800 less yards.
In 2024 the Bills did not have a #1 after getting rid of Diggs and that caused a 30 million cap hit. That sounds like a recipe for disaster but passing yards compared to the rest of the league showed they only dropped 2 spots from 2023 to 2024 on 60 less attempts. Their average yard per catch went UP. Add to that in 2024 they basically took week 18 off where in 2023 it was pedal to the metal and Josh threw for 359 yards. If they could have parted ways with Diggs with out the 30 million cap hit and used the money to beef up the defense we would have watched you Bills in the Super Bowl.
The everyone eats plan really didnt backfire when considering that the Bills were #2 in the league in scoring without a #1 WR. JA was asked to throw and run less. And 2 of the pass catchers that they were counting on in Kincade and Samual each came up short likely due to injury.

Josh Allen threw the ball almost 100 times fewer than he did in 2020, and almost 160 times fewer than 2021. He had around 800 less passing yards than those two seasons.
The Bills offense was 10th in yards in 2024, after being 4rh, 2nd, 5th, and 2nd.
So no, I don’t think adding Jamar Chase brings the offense down 800 yards less. That’s actually nuts.I think you missed the point. Chase would get a lot of yards but that would mean less targets and yards for the other players. In other words Chase would would get 1000 + yards but the team would not have a total of 1000+ more yards.

id rather a day 2 pick…
Coleman is a complete question mark
palmer is a 2 year deal and major question mark
is be shocked if Samuel is here in 2026
we don’t need lightning in a bottle or a 1 year rental - we need a solid prospect that inn12 months will be expected to be a near full time starter on a cost controlled deal for several years. A day 2 guy is great short term depth and long term real potential
I would like to see 2 DT and a CB the first 3 picks. I have read its a great DT class and thin on WRs. But t the end of the day I hope they dont overdraft regardless of position.

Cooper would have to be real cheep. To fill the last WR spot I would rather see a later draft pick, past PS player, or an undrafted free agent in hopes of catching lightning in a bottle.
The resources are really needed on the defense. It was tough to watch the Bills score 40 points in a game to loose...

Unlike the Chargers where he was their best outside WR? Competing with the maybe the most disappointing rookie WR in 2023?
No, the Bills best outside receiver had less yards than Palmer. The Chargers best receiver had 300 more yards than the Bills best WR and their #2 guy was only 100 yard short of the Bills best. So the Chargers had a better WR group than the Bills.
To talk about Johnston like that is lame. When he was drafted he was not considered a polished ready pro, but a guy with desirable traits to develop. His yards jumped a good bit (nearly double) in year 2 while having almost twice as many TDs than any Bills WR. If Johnston did not show the year 2 improvement, Palmer would have had better stats and the Chargers would have probably tried to keep him.

Maybe the yardage threshold of 660 yards, though he's only done it once in his four year career.
But 7 TD's? He's only had 10 for his entire career and his career high is 4.
It's possible he can become more with Josh. But his career to date hasn't shown that it's "easily attainable". And it's not like he comes from a bad Quarterback situation.
6 hours ago, FireChans said:3/4 years not surpassing 660 yards makes it likely he’s gonna surpass 660 yards?
Let me guess, this is the year it’s likely Rousseau gets 16 sacks because he’s had 6 and 8 before?
If he plays a 17 game season it looks likely, he missed 6 games one year and 2 another and was with in 80 yards. He is likely to be a bigger part of the plan with the Bills considering the other outside receivers they have.
I mentioned nothing about TDs because the Bills run the ball in the red zone , they had 3 more than any other team last year.
Your comparison to Rousseau is idiotic!!!
The 2 other guys needed 25 games to get to 660 yards. So, yea I would rather have Palmer this year than run it back with the 2 other guys.

If he's as good as people are saying--young, good potential, separation, etc.--why did the Chargers let him go, especially with their thin WR room and this affordable price?

This guy may not have had great production in the past, but his win rate against man is very good.
The Bills WRs are not good at beating man. Teams could line up in man and crowd the box and take away the run and send more presser after 17.
This singing is about scheme, he is a piece of the puzzle that the Bills dont otherwise have.

Not like anyone cares, but I think what happened with Kinkaid is Brandon Beane.
look at our drafts and i think it’s pretty obvious we draft for need at the top of the draft. And I think Beane is pretty good at his job, so we rarely get “busts”. But we also never get the “stud”
Or drafting a the back of the 1st round its harder to land a stud, so rarely getting a bust is a good thing...

I bet the nay sayers here drafted Kincade on their fantasy team and had a bad year....
Likely the same folks who lite up the forum with the cut Brown BS.

The team scored the 2nd most points in the league, Allen was down 600 yards over the year before. The #1 receiver only had 821 yards. So, throwing the ball around was not the plan.
He was the 3rd most productive pass catcher on the team after missing almost a quarter of the season, and playing several games hurt.
Im excited to see what he will do in 2025!!

La Porta, drafted behind Kincaid, is a straight up weapon. So is another 1st rounder--Bowers.
First Knox, now Kincaid. oof...
Over the last 2 years Laporta has 500 more yards in 4 more games on a team that throws the ball more.
Kincaid holds the Bills franchise record for most receptions by a rookie and was held back in year 2 by an injury.
One guy is a "straight up weapon" and the other is a dud?

If we are going to talk about other players, how about Eric Moulds who had less than 600 yards in this first 2 years playing in 32 games.
IMO if he delivers 700 to 900 yards in an "everyone eats offense" he did very well. If he also has a low drop rate and strong blocking he did great as a 2nd round pick.
