  1. I love the finish.  If you want the Bills to win next week, this couldn't have been better.  The Jaguars were playing an emotional all out game and Roethlisberger popped their balloon.  They should be completely drained and properly deflated for next week

    Agree totally.

Seems like Marrone isn’t bad at building up franchises but he really really wares out fast. I’m sure his personality has to do with that

Only he didn't really build that Jags team. He inherited a lot of those guys from Gus Bradley's regime. Today's loss was textbook from the Bradley years. He has a terrible personality. All this talk that he's the "next Parcells" clearly went to his head.

  2. I have a friend in FLA who is a Jags fan. He doesn't think Marrone is in trouble this year unless they totally collapse down the stretch. He said most fans are unhappy with the GM Caldwell and that the team may be in some cap trouble next year and will have to shed or restructure contracts on the defensive side of the ball that could really hurt the team. Fans are also not happy that they extended Bortles and gave him so much cash and he's responded by playing like he always has. And a lot of people down there think if Marrone stays he may need to shakeup the staff. The offense has struggled, but the real problem has been the defense. Even though he wasn't a world beater in the middle, the retirement of former Bill Paul Posluzney has hurt both in the locker room and on the field.

  3. QB development today isn’t the same as yesteryear. There is an instant gratification mentality today and you see it on this board.

Back in Fergies day a team drafted and stuck with that guy for the most part. It took years for those QBs to hone their craft.

It would require the same today but fans and teams want it NOW.

Fergy was a wide-eyed rookie in '73. Only threw 6 TD passes all year, but he didn't have to do much more with OJ behind him and the Electric Company in front of him. It wasn't until his 3rd season in '75 that he really blossomed into a solid NFL QB. That team had a great offense, but a lousy defense otherwise they could have made the playoffs and done some damage. You really need to give QBs 3 years but there's so much pressure to see if you have "the guy" with CBA and when you have to make decisions on 5th year options.

  4. Bill Simpson was our 3rd starting safety that year. Jeff Nixon tore and ACL which was a shame, he could have been a good player for many years, and his backup Rod Kush also went down to injury. Maybe if 1 of those guys is healthy that TD pass to Smith doesn't happen....maybe. God that as tough just now to watch that play, but thanks for posting.

  5. He survived some really bad teams. They were 3-11 at one point in '77 and he rebounded under Chuck Knox to become one of the better QBs in the game a few seasons later. We should take note that he needed weapons around him to be successful and he didn't always have that here. In some ways he had less to deal with then what we have now.  I will always be a fan and respect him for what he did as a Bill.

  6. I'm a life long fan and want him to succeed, but he just doesn't have the physical tools to be a good NFL passer. There's no zip on those passes especially on sideline routes and the DBs will sit on those all day. They have no one who can take the top off the defense so the medium range throwing lanes will be clogged up. It's a no-win for this kid.
