  1. Forget the Bills' position - how about this nonsense:

(1-2) Steelers 11 spots above the team they just lost to (1-2) Oakland.

(2-1) 49ers 17 spots above the also (2-1) Vikings who just beat them handily.

(2-1) Ravens 6 spots over the (2-1) Eagles they lost to.

(2-1) Giants 6 spots above (2-1) Cowboys, who beat the Giants convincingly on opening night.

(1-2) Redskins 3 spots over the also (1-2) Rams - who beat the 'Skins.

(1-2) Oakland 2 spots over the also (1-2) Dolphins who beat them.

Like the commentary from the idiot talking heads (usually former players) on NFLN and to a lesser extent, ESPN - these "Power Rankings" are nothing but outdated expectations from prior seasons mixed with a load of stupid hype,

What is extra stupid, is that it is perfectly possible to construct actual mathematical power rankings (RPI, etc.) as they do for college ball, but that would be too much "work" for the under educated fools who write for these "publications".

Here you go, Buffalo at #14

  2.

The guy hits on 63% of his passes, has a QB rating of 108, throws 3 TDs, no interceptions, puts up 24 points in a game that is half rain storm, hasn't been sacked all year and right now leads the league in TD passes and you say he needs to be better. Really? What do you people want? You are uneffingbelievable. WTF!

His inaccuracy does really scare me at times. BUT your post is hard to argue with. Makes me think of Jim Kelly days when I never fully appreciated what we had, if he wasn't 100% perfect. Thanks for the hard facts here. Go Fitz!

  3. The depth on this team this year should finally put a dent in our perennial issue with injuries, especially depth on the OL as they arguably suffered the worst injury issues last year. They managed so well with yards per carry and few sacks last year - even though partially due to game planning (getting rid of ball quickly). Now with some depth, there should be fewer injuries due to wear and tear, and less drop off when starters get a breather. And the battle of who makes the team alone is cause for excitement - not a bad option all around... Let's get this season started already!

  4. Yes - I was going to write, we can't know for sure just how much influence Nix had, but we do know what happened to the franchise when he arrived, it's climb, and what has happened to it since he left - a steady decline; conversely, we know that since Buddy arrived in Buffalo as the GM, the Bills have slowly risen, not as much in wins as in talent, and this team looks ready to win 10 games this year. If it does, he'll have had a 4, 6, and 10 win season climb in years 1-3, and one would assume the Bills, being a young, talented team, with a very nice structure in place, would be ready to get better still, and stay good, for a number of years.

Nice job looking into that. I have nothing bad to say about what Nix has done. He simplifies football to making it played by big men who run fast and who are smart enough to learn, and who have decent characters. If the players play well they are rewarded. It's an easy approach that people can jump on board with. Now we just have to start really winning. I believe it is coming.

He is also simplifying by drafting mostly players that have injury free 3+ seasons. That is key.

  5. Great point. Under Jauron the team had marginal talent and it seemed that the few good players would wear down until they finally broke down.

Also, great username. You're a Bills AND a Lions fan? Or is the name simply a play on the Bills and billions?

Thanks. I follow both teams, mostly Bills. The past 10+ years this has been a particularly painfull combo. But finally turning a corner I hope.

  6. If Merriman can come back anywhere close to pain free, he's gonna start next season. If the surgery was successful, and that's a big if, his major health issue the last two seasons is now OK. He fully recovered from his knee procedure (another one he took his time in deciding to undergo) so there is precedent of him coming back from surgery.

    GO BILLS!!!

With a big IF, I gotta say that I agree, especially when seeing TKO Spikes flying around for the 49ers this year. A good example of why not to give up on Merriman yet. And despite offering little on the field so far, I do believe he must have helped attract free agents since he came here.

  7. We are all sadomasochists at heart aren't we?? We suffer through a painful game like the Cowboys (and I actually sat there watching for the whole thing), come on here and B word for 5 days, and then sit right back down hoping it will all feel better....I need my head examined.

We SHOULD win this week. I just want to go to bed Sunday night not in the worst mood.

Well put... Couldn't say it any better myself.

  8. I am looking forward to Fitzgibbons going into the season as the starter which would be even more exciting if he actually gets a camp and preseason in too. (I cannot stop thinking about what might have happened if that were the case last year).

I am hopeful for a Dareus-Troup-Williams D-line, but I do like a lot of combinations we can put together for 3-4 or 4-3. May take another year to come together.

And maybe it is a wishful thinking, and even so maybe a couple seasons away, but how about Jasper on the O-line in goal line situations?
