  1. Not feeling it either this year. Different reasons though. Largely fatigue of long drought and all the reasons for it. I suspect Ryan being a player's coach will lead to Jauron syndrome of excessive injuries that come with less discipline. Just an uneducated huntch. Should be hooked back in by September but definitely not where I usually am this time of year.

    I'm psyched as Hell.

I've been re-watching the games from last season and I've been reminded of several things:

-When Karlos, and Shady were both active, our run game was fantastic.

-Darby just got better, and better as the season progressed.

-Mario got worse, and worse as the season progressed.

-Corey Graham wasn't that bad. He just wasn't. In fact, our whole secondary was great, even with AW out.

-As TT became more comfortable with his receivers, his game exploded. He finished the season MUCH BETTER than when he started.

I am psyched to see Tyrod start the season as the undisputed leader, more prepared, and more comfortable.

I am psyched to see the playbook opened up for Tyrod.

I am psyched to see Clay be more productive. I firmly believe that he will be.

I am psyched to see Watkins get the ball. I believe that he will see less double coverage, as TT passes, and spreads the ball around more.

I am psyched to see which of our young receivers steps up. I know that at least one will. I've read that Dez Lewis is a "different player" after a season on the PS. Maybe it will be him?

I am psyched to see Rob Ryan throw up on his belly late in garbage time after he has downed seven beers, and fourteen hotdogs.

And, I am psyched to bring my six-year-old son, Bruno to the Bills @ Rams Game. He will be rooting for the Rams-- he is, after all, an LA native. And, I will be ruthless in my joy when the Bills hand them a righteous shellacking.

Love the optimism until I think of injuries and lack of depth.

I've been meaning to start this exact same thread for a while now. I'm 37 and I've been a diehard Bills fan since my first game in 1985. I don't feel the need to give my Bills fandom credentials but needless to say I'm as big a fan as they come. My 2nd and 3rd favorite teams are the Sabres and the Colorado Rockies. I haven't outgrown rooting for sports teams because I care every bit as much about the Sabres and the Rockies as I ever have. But something changed in me last year with respect to the Bills and the NFL. When they got eliminated, I cared a little less and found it more amusing. I found it easier to cope with losses in general. I think it's a perfect storm of 1. the over-saturation/cheesiness of the NFL product/brand in 2016, 2. I hate Rex Ryan, 3. I hate Goodell, 4. the head injury stuff/loss of innocence about the game I used to love so much, 5. I follow Bills players on Twitter and very few of them are capable of stringing a complete sentence together... Don't get me wrong, I'll obviously watch every second of every game this year, I just care a little bit less than I used to. And it's evidenced by me not caring about every offseason article, ranking, etc. like I did even two years ago. I can't tell you how stupid it looks when people argue about where some nfl.com analyst ranked the Bills linebacking corps in May. It's literally dumber than a group of girls getting together to watch The Bachelorette.

Exactly. I'd just add the ridiculousness of lousy reffiing always seeming to screw the Bills at key moments, most commonly occurring against Pats.
  2. The defense wasn't excellent. With the exception of the Packers' game, the defense got lit up against good teams in much the same manner it did this season. If the Packers' coaching staff hadn't inexplicably stopped running the ball in that game, that game likely looks much different too.

    1. San Diego dominated the game in Buffalo.

    2. New England dominated the game in Buffalo.

    3. They couldn't stop the Raiders in a must win game.

    4. With the game on the line in the 4th quarter against Houston, they gave up a five minute FG drive and then on the ensuing possession needing the ball back gave up a short pass that was turned into a first down.

    5. To open the fourth quarter against Minnesota, gave up a 28 yard pass on 3rd and 18. That drive ended in a FG that ended up forcing the BILLS to have to score a TD with no time left to win the game.

    6. With a 9-3 lead in the third quarter in Miami, gave up back-to-back TD drives in what ended up a 22-9 loss.

    7. With a 13-3 lead late in the third quarter against Kansas City, gave up back-to-back TD drives in what ended up a 17-13 loss.

The defense last season had more sacks but they suffered from the same "coming up small when it matters" thing that happens to most teams that don't make the playoffs.

    Great point!

  3. The penalty would have been "missed" if it didn't involve a marquise team, and one of the NFL's golden boys. That's why Detroit and Buffalo are "cursed". p,s not saying it wasn't a just call, I'm just saying how it would have went down had roles been reversed.

Yup, pretty much. The face mask call was bs too. Definitely helps to be a team the league favors. I cannot even get mad about it anymore. Slowly losing interest by the week.
  4. Man, do I agree with that bolded line.

The Bills had a young man that had a background in the WCO. The Buffalo Bills had the bright idea to throw this kid into a Mike Martz deep passing style of offense behind a crap offensive line, and in a few years he was gone after a few severe concussions. Square peg, round hole type of deal.

Colin Kaepernick looks to have the same problem RG3 has, and that is both have completely lost confidence in themselves, as they are over thinking every decision.

I also agree. We have had as much of a QB problem as a coaching problem.

  5. I attribute my bad knees to playing many later-year soccer games on artificial surfaces. And they always seems to hurt for a number of days after games played on artificial surfaces, when I would have almost no pain after playing on natural grass. Given the investment in player salaries, my vote would be for a natural grass field as it would help ensure at least half their games would be played on a a safer surface.

    Some articles:

Mixed review, but interesting difference between men and women (maybe due to higher impact/weights):

    http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/sportsdoc/Grass-vs-Turf-does-it-affect-injury-rate.html

Also mixed but showing some evidence for difference between football (more injuries) and soccer:

    http://sportswithoutinjury.com/truth-artificial-turf-injuries/

Claim of definitive increase in injury:

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/05/01/us-football-idUSBRE84002Q20120501

OK, so that is a bit much, but in case anyone is interested, there is a ton or search results for "artificial grass and knee injuries". I am biased based on experience but the evidence seems to support the case that artificial grass contributes to more injuries for football players. You might weigh in a bias of their being business interests supporting studies that refute such claims.

If I was T.P., I'd make the investment in a Green Bay like natural surface. It may even pay him dividends with less injuries.

  6. I'm not going to indulge your conspiracy theory mindset. You believe what you want and that's your choice. I choose to be a fan and not indulge in this idiocy of look at me I'm mad and won't be fan anymore. Don't go away mad, just go away.

Seriously, your giving a fellow Bills fan a hard time for being upset with all this? Start your own blog if you are going to get upset that people can start a new topoc.

How does this get on the front page? Mods? Anyone?

Really? Start your own blog and stop your whining to moderators.

  7. Bad loss for sure. Made some stupid mistakes for sure and Bradham missing that tackle was huge but the referees....wow!!

The refs stat line was way more productive in yards and points (taken away) than any player or unit today. When will this end? I can't stand to watch it much more.

    Completely agree! Excruciating.

    Best loss I've ever seen.

    Why?

    I'm free.

I realized, on that Tyrod TD run that wasn't, that the league has finally, mercifully, reached the point where I no longer care.

I'm not watching a sport... I'm watching a 3.5 hour beer commercial, interspersed with completely subjective "penalties" designed to keep the game close, and award the teams that "should" win, like the New York metro area Giants.

It's not a conspiracy, it's just a waste of time on a beautiful fall day.

I'll respond in length to the person who sent me a PM about the Patriots, and I'll make some final goodbye post after our next win--for 2 reasons.

    A) so it resonates with the true Bills fans on here (not social media team members from the league) and not people that think I'm just "bitter" after a loss; and B) so those same social media team members have talking points to bring back to their account managers and maybe the message can start working its way up the ladder.

The person I feel worst for?

Mr. and Mrs. Pegula. Sell now while you can, this league is in a tailspin.

Oh sure, profits will probably keep going up, for now, but kids are dying, schools are closing programs, and the league is awful.

It's been real guys, hate away, but the NFL f*cking blows now, and I'm sorry to be the first to eulogize it, but one of us has to.

I'm not quite there yet but feel I should be and likely will be soon. Spot on.

  8. Stupid play. The guy is already effectively blocked. And how about the pressure getting thru up the middle ? No ones going to split hairs and say it was his waist, thigh, nut sack, whatever. Richie is dropping down at a descending angle . If you're going to hit him gotta be high, as in chest area .

    PUH-LEASE, GIVE ME A BREAK.

What was that thing on his lip? A mustache? Dirty Sanchez?

    Hah! Yeah!

  9. He went lower than the other OL's engagement point, they'll call that every time. He should know better, and coaches should make sure our players know better.

F that. Why is everyone always making excuses for the refs?

It was a penalty. He was trying to go low.

What are you smoking dude? Yet another lame excuse for bad reffing.

    This. X1000.

    And he never learns....

True but why do refs get a pass for calling by having thin skin and not making legit calls? They should be held accountable.

  10. The radios had nothing to do with the win. It lasted for 1 quarter and the Pats had to turn off their headsets as well, per NFL rules, according to this article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2015/09/11/whos-ready-for-radiogate-steelers-coaches-headsets-played-patriots-broadcast/

This is just how they get away with things by letting the small stuff go. Knowing ahead of time gives them an advantage as they are expecting it and will be prepared for it. I do not buy the point is to say it was absolutely no advantage.

  11. Comment during tonight's game was success breeds contempt.

Well no.. Nobody hated the packers with Favre or now with Rogers.

People hate the Patriots and Brady because they are cheaters. They have proven again and again they cheat. Note the radio broadcasts into the Steelers headsets.

They don't care about honor of winning fairly, and know when caught - it doesn't matter. They have been caught numerous times.

That is why there is such vile hatred of the cheatriots.

And now the league including Godell are shown to be laughing stocks. Just a bunch of spoiled brats and millionaire owners engaged in bilking the public as a fair and honorable game, where every team and player has a chance - NOT!

Feels as slimy as a Las Vegas slot machine.

Interesting angle, as I was just thinking about never having been so down on the NFL and not being able to enjoy a season opener as was the case with this game. I never thought I would see the day were my interest in the NFL would start to be challenged. Its hard to imagine not loving and following the Bills as much as I have for 30+ years, but how I feel after tonight's game (less angry and more disgust to the point of disinterest), coupled by another non-playoff season for the Bills could really put a dent in things. Worst case scenario the NHL season is fast approaching.

I don't have a problem with them Jawing during the game. At all.

I do have a problem that cheating just goes unpunished. I mean, it's not NOT a big deal. It's cheating. In the NFL. The bugged locker rooms, stealing people's playbooks. They're CHEATING.

You are leaving out the blatant no-calls on the field.

....And the fact that the broadcasters can still only gush over Kraft is mind boggling and at the same time a blatant testimony that the fix is in, and it is rampant. Gotta give Karft some credit for being able to pull it off, but is going to start to turn fans away if not already.

  12. I've been paying $350 a year the last three years for Sunday Ticket mobile version and stream it through my Xbox one. The problem is the lag. So I need to turn my cell phone off because my dad and friends in buffalo text when anything happens. So, since I already deal with lag, I was thinking I could buy a Slingbox, send it to my dad in WNY and watch from here (VB).

One concern is "stealing cable." But since all games are televised on local TV now, would this no longer be a concern? It would be the equivalent of FaceTime-ing the game.

Second, if the first point isn't a concern (and let me know if it is) how is the quality of Slingbox streamed?

    Any other concerns?

    Thanks.

I have the old equipment and it works fine quality wise. New equipment I am sure is even better.

You are only restricted in that both you and your dad have to watch the same channel, but that is the point.

Smart phone and tablet apps charge a fee to download which is annoying but you can use for free from any computer browser.

My buddy looks in to the games from out of town when he cannot get the game where he lives.

I use it to watch Sabers games from our home TV over winter vacation. The on screen remote looks just like our remote at home.

New equipment is compatible with Google Chrome so I am considering upgrading as this would allow us to watch cable on another extra TV in basement without needing to get another cable box.

Al in all, very cool to have, but we really do not use it too often.

    Hope some of this helps!
