Guys - Wawrow is fine on this one. Candid chats inside the locker room are great for insight into athletes and teams. That level of access is great, and it should be preserved.
It just gets very dicey when we're talking about combining professionalism with 53 sweaty dudes, high on the primal adrenaline rush, with their genitals exposed.
To an outsider, it seems like everyone should be a bit more comfortable if there was a bit less genitals in the workplace. Some sort of no nudity policy, however it was implemented, would seem to reduce the chances of these unprofessional male/female interactions, and heck, I doubt that the male reporters would mind fewer testicles during their work hours.
20 minutes to shower and get some pants on before the reporters enter, with the players adhering to a pants-policy in the public areas of the locker room thereafter doesn't seem unreasonable to an outsider.
Keep the access, but lose the nudity. Would this be ok somehow?

I'd give St. Louis C.J. Spiller plus ANY FIVE players they wanted off our roster for Sam Bradford.
You can't consistently win in the NFL without elite-level quarterback play. The catch is, that is somewhat hard to find. But I'm willing to mortgage absolutely everything until we have that.

Reporting is not for me bowey4 and possibly from the looks of it, neither is starting threads on this board. Folks come here now to get there rocks off bashing other folks or the players they like more then anything now it seems.

Sorry that giving an opinion on how good the Bills are (terrible) that is shared by pretty much the entire sports world is making trouble for you.
You can be a fan, but yet still think critically and voice your frustration at the seemingly endless parade of failure.

All due respect. But that is a terribly misinformed statement...He may not be playing up to the #5 Overall potential...But he's FAR from a bust and he definitely does not suck...
I'm not 100% up on the Packers, but it looks like he is pretty much only playing Special Teams now. I'd say that if your #5 overall draft pick ends up being solely a special teamer, he's a bust.
Believe it or not, players picked that highly are supposed to end up being elite players. When yours can't sniff the field, you've got a problem.

Thanks for distilling that down a bit. It is a pretty confusing issue, and the mountain of information out there is tough to sift through.
I believe the owners will lock out the players, and ultimately strong-arm a deal this go 'round. I'd personally estimate the chance of NFL football next year to be a bit south of 50/50 - maybe 40% chance of play next year. I think there is almost a 100% chance that there will be a lockout for at least some period of time, and even that will leave a lasting mark on the season, if there is one.

The Bills will win at least a couple games, but it is perfectly reasonable to assume that they will be an underdog in every game they play this season.
But yeah, it's pretty much scientifically proven that you can't consistently compete in the NFL without an elite-level quarterback leading the team. We're in limbo until we get lucky and get one, which will be difficult seeing how we aren't really trying.

I like that they get the scoop in the locker room, I just think its really weird when they are showing an interview, and some giant naked dude is walking behind the subject, and they have to pixelate his penis. It's just really bizarre, and you don't really see the shower-cam show up in a lot of other venues, leading some to think there might be a different and possibly better way to get the story.

Frankly, sir, I don't really give a flying Flutie what you would like me to do. If you want to bury your head in the sand and talk about how great the Buffalo Bills are, I'd suggest putting the Shout song on a loop and finding a blind person, or perhaps someone that likes football teams that appear early in the alphabet, because those are about the only folks that'd think the Bills are as super awesome as you wish they were.
This is a discussion board. I'm sorry that discussing how terrible the Bills performed in week one, and the shoddy composition of the team makes you feel sad inside. I too wish they were better. But pretending they are great won't help things. Hell, even voicing dissenting opinion probably won't help, but it certainly can't hurt. If anyone in a position of authority takes the pulse of the fan base, I want them reading my pulse and not your delusions of grandeur.
And yeah, dropping the "threat" of reporting people for thinking the Bills stink is pretty humiliating. Let your opinions ride on their own merit - you ain't the opinion police.

People posting criticism of Trent Edwards' terrible play isn't the same is being "hell bent on discouraging Bills Fans". Many people think that the Bills would be much better off if fans swallowed a bit of their "homer" the Bills-are-so-great-and-are-above-reproach mentality and took a spade for a spade.
Trent Edwards is horrible. He'll never be adequate. The sooner that the Bills cut him, the sooner they will have a chance at playing with a quality, elite-level NFL quarterback. Is it a guarantee, no. But what is guaranteed is that as long as Trent Edwards is the starting quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, they will NEVER compete for a championship.
Sorry to discourage you though - I wasn't aware that keeping you pumped up and happy and blissfully ignorant was the mission statement of this website.
Edit: The Bills secondary really looked great on Sunday though. I hope they keep up the good work - they are the strength of this team at present.

Whomever posted we should have played more prosets is spot on, Edwards needs to be under center with decisions identified ahead of time, 1st read, 2nd read, throw away or step up in pocket/scramble. He's not an intuitive player, so don't force or look for intuitive type of play(s) from him, we have all learned it's simply not possible with him.
This exactly sums up why Trent Edwards needs to be cut from the team today. Not tomorrow, today.
You can't win this way, and to suggest that dumbing down things to his moronic level is what we should do is absurd.
The fact that anyone who calls themselves a Bills fan would be satisfied with a quarterback who needs to run such a simplistic offense because he is incapable of running a professional offense is sad.
Cut him today.
Look vigilantly for a quarterback who IS CAPABLE. Do not settle for one that isn't. Acquire, evaluate, eliminate. Chuck the attitude of having "the best chance of winning on Sunday". We've been hamstrung by that for a decade. Bring them in, try them out, and ship them out if they aren't capable.
It is worth losing badly in the short term when you can justify it with scouring the earth for an elite, franchise quarterback. Without one, all you can hope for is one lucky fluke year where the stars align. The good teams have the elite quarterbacks. The ones make them competitive and relevant for a decade or more.
Do not compromise. Cut Trent Edwards.

I personally think its very weird that reporters are in there talking to guys with their penises literally hanging out. I suppose professional athletes are more or less required to display their genitals due to the nature of their jobs, but that doesn't make it any less strange to me.
It seems like there should be some way for reporters to get the access that they want, while the players don't need to parade around in front of dozens of people (women included) with their balls swinging around.
That's just me though. Can't say we should be surprised that there would be issues that arise out of this type of environment.

Yes, I think they're all stupid.
He is an absolute trainwreck out there trying to play linebacker. He was a below-average defensive end. He is humiliatingly bad playing in space as a linebacker.
Every single snap, he'll turn his back to the line of scrimmage, run ploddingly for a bit, then if the ball is near him, the carrier will run around him while he shows off the hip-turn and change of direction ability of...well...a lineman.
You don't have to use some sort of transcendental, next-level thinking to figure out why he is on this team. He probably is one whale of a nice guy, and maybe his teammates/employers like him. That can account for someone with substandard ability thriving within the organization (this is pretty horrible too, tbh).
Just use your eyes. Don't over-think it. Don't search for a deeper meaning. Just watch him play.
Sorry Kelsay's Mom, but your son is very, very bad at his job.

I think people probably "obsess" about him because he is the starting quarterback of their favorite football team. That is, he plays the most important position on the team, and is the one who can most directly impact the team's success or failure.
And he epitomizes failure, which gets people a bit riled up.
You see, nobody likes it when the most important player on their team is really, really, really awful.

I love how people will crack a poster who says things like, "I watch Trent Edwards before the games warming up, and he is a total flat-liner, no intensity, no laser focus, no palpable will to win above all else" because they don't personally know the guy.
But these same types will come out and say how tough and smart he is without sitting down to dinner with the guy either. Hypocritical. You say he's smart because he received a degree from the college that paid his tuition and expenses. I say he's dumb because he does the SAME STUPID THINGS OVER AND OVER EXPECTING DIFFERENT RESULTS. You say he's tough, and I say he's the biggest baby in the NFL, who took a hard hit and it literally ruined his career because now he is SCARED to be on the field.
They are both opinions, and are both valid.
What aren't opinions are the recordings of him saying stupid things in press conferences, smiling and laughing about terrible performances, and the PRODUCT that he puts out on the field.
Say goodbye, Trent. You might be smart and charming and tough as nails, but you are a failure of a quarterback, and once we get you out the door, you'll never sniff the field again.

Perhaps you should post some substantial and insightful positional grades, Union2008. It has generated some debate, so I guess the thread served its purpose. Nobody else has chimed in with anything more complete or insightful, though. Some people just like to complain when things don't appeal to them.

The Bills got the ball back at the 20 with 30 seconds left and ZERO timeouts. All of the bolded things did happen, which was a minor miracle, and EVEN THEN, with all that going according to plan, were the Bills left with an impossible situation.
Convert 4th and 10, have the ball on say the 15 yard line with 2 timeouts and 1:40 left, needing a FIELD GOAL to tie. Compare that with the series of events that needed to happen to get the Bills the ball at the 20 with 30 seconds left and no timeouts needing a TOUCHDOWN.
Certainly completing one 10 yard pass can't be harder than all that other junk PLUS the extra difficulty of going 80 yards in 30 seconds with no timeouts.

Edit: Also, if the Bills were able to go down that field and score that miraculous touchdown that'd make Chan a genius, how could you think that they WOULDN'T have been able to convert one 10 yard pass, and move into field goal range with 1:40 and 2 timeouts? Certainly if Chan thought they were explosive enough to go 80 yards in 30 seconds with no timeouts, it'd be a piece of cake to complete a single 10 yard pass, and methodically move into field goal range with 1:40 and 2 timeouts.

What would you do if you knew the qb would not throw the ball more than 5 yards down field? I would single cover both receivers and put 9 in the box until the qb proves to me he is going to at least attempt to throw the ball more than 5 yards. When it's 9 guys trying to be blocked by 7 who do you think is going to win most of the time? A better qb means less guys in the box and evens it out at the los.

As I posted elsewhere, I am thinking about calling it quits with this team and it is NOT because of the horrible product on the field. That, I've learned to endure.
I've been to dozens of games at the Ralph, I've sat everywhere, and I thought I'd seen it all. Sunday made me think otherwise, and I was sitting in expensive seats. The lowlights:
1) I saw a handicapped woman get heckled for taking too long to get down the stairs. She was being assisted, slowly, by an attendant, and someone yelled "Get a f'ing walker." (If that heckler is reading this, you should be ashamed of yourself - honestly, you are an a-hole to the core.)
2) After the non-call when Trent got roughed up along the sidelines, the idiot drunk kid sitting next to me turned to me and said, about the ref (who is African-American), "Typical f'ing n'er." (If you're reading this, you're a drain on society and should just throw yourself off of a bridge today.)
3) Some guy insisted on standing the whole time, even though he was about 6'3" and was standing in front of two small boys, whose father pleaded with him to please sit so they could watch the game. He responded, "Not at a Bills game - not a chance." (If you're reading this, Mr. Pollack - I assume that's your name because that was the last name on the Bills jersey you were wearing - you have no class. None.)
4) There were drunk teenagers everywhere. Beyond drunk - totally blacked out drunk, wasted, by the second quarter. (If you were one of them: listen, I like to party with the rest of you, but you really need to learn how to control yourselves. Seriously, get a freakin' life. It's just alcohol, and this isn't Russia, your lives cannot be that miserable that your only outlet is to get so inebriated on Sunday afternoons that you can't see straight. Time to be an adult and be productive. Sorry to be the one to tell you that, but obviously your own parents didn't/aren't.)
This was just a snippet, there was plenty more. And you know what? Despite what some of you might think, it's not like this at every stadium. Giants fans are very knowledgeable, passionate fans, but they don't act like complete jackasses. Same with Redskins fans and even Ravens fans. Really, the Bills, Jets, Eagles, and Browns are in a miserable class by themselves, and there is no excuse for it. I don't know if I can associate myself with it any longer. Perhaps I'm just getting older, or perhaps it really is getting worse. I don't know, but I don't think I could ever bring my kids to something like that, which is very, very sad.
I wanted to mock this post when I first started, because I don't think I tend to see eye to eye with most people who'd make a "you durn kids and that rock n' roll music" thread, but it actually was pretty well written and had some pizazz.
People do blow off a ton of steam when they go to the Ralph - myself included. Some take it too far. It probably is just boiled-over frustration with the team, the city, etc. etc. It was never so bad when the team was winning, so I'd guess that the consistent agonizing failure has led to people looking to make their fun elsewhere.
But, theres a lot of idiots out there, and the only thing you can do is control how deeply they affect you.

Yeah, the running game was terrible. But at least the running game was terrible only running half the plays that the passing game ran.
I'd contend that we'd prefer to have a good quarterback than a good running back though. Most of the good, contending teams do it with elite-level quarterback play, and with their running games being an afterthought. Not always, just most of the time.
It's also easier to stop the run without the fear of the forward pass, than it is the other way around.
No arguments though with your post in general though - it is a disaster to only rush for 50 yards, given that you drafted a running back so highly and running back was previously thought of as a strength of the team.

Guessing the Running Backs got a D as a sympathy measure since they had to bear the brunt of the failures of the line and having a pansy, scared quarterback.
They were real bad though, so I guess we can debate a F for them too.
