  1.

    Bad news for us.

The whole Reich thing is predicated on nostalgia. Not saying that Reich won't be good, but he wasn't great with SD as an OC, he led the Chargers to one of their worst offenses in over a decade, the only worse one was under Hal Hunter (right, who's he) two years ago.

This sounds good on paper but practically speaking is a roll-of-the-dice at best.

I don't like the idea of Whaley being able to do more long-term damage to this organization. He'll hire someone that he can control more given how things ended up with Marrone. That's not good for us.

Your head is clearly where the sun does not shine.

  2.

He comes across more as Peyton's water boy than his offensive coordinator. I don't see a commanding presence there at all.

This HC interview says to me that the Bills are still completely clueless about hiring head coaches. It must have something to do with that stupid analytics department!

I note you used "clueless" and "stupid" in this post. Oh, the irony.

  3. I keep reading posts around here about "dysfunction" going forward. I see it just the opposite. To my mind, getting rid of Marrone lowers the level of dysfunction about 99%. And if it's true that Polian turned down a job (and it has never been confirmed that he was offered the job) based on Marrone bad-mouthing the team, then that shows evidence of grand stupidity on Polian's part, so thank you, St. Doug, for derailing that retro plan.

I think the Bills are much better off today than they were last week.

I used the word and I agree with you. I used it to echo what Marrone reportedly is telling others. But I, like you, don't see it that way. I also think we are better off. Eff Marrone.

  4.

With the right OC and game plans, the Jets went to consecutive AFC Championships with him under center. We don't have the right OC or O-line to succeed with Sanchez as the QB.

This. Sanchez is a turnover machine who will looks lost behind a bad o-line. The Jets had a pretty damn good o-line in those AFC championship seasons.

Why not do it again? We couldn't do it with Orton and he's a better QB than Sanchez. The D can't play much better than they have the last 2 years. Are either of these true:

A - You are Mark Sanchez

B - You have wood for the guy

At least Sanchez would have dove for the first down.

Sanchez is a good option. He didn't live up to the #5 pick in the draft but he's an experienced player who's made it to 2 championship games and actually looked good at times for the Jets where QBs never succeed. I also thought he played well with the Eagles this year aside from the INT against the Redskins that basically ended their playoff hopes. It was the Eagels' defense that costed them this year IMO. Sanchez is constantly knocked for one clumsy play (butt fumble). Key word being ONE clumsy play out of the many different plays he has run in his career. I would be satisfied with him for the time being (I'd take Foles too).

If we had an ok o-line....but we don't. His propensity to turn the ball over will make that defense look a lot worse.

  5. Now we are really in a hole. We have no first round pick, and Whaley has shown he can't be trusted on choosing/finding a QB. The only solution might be to find the best consultant type scout(s) out there, and task them with the sole objective of identifying viable candidates. One can't leave this to our scouting department alone.

Everyone talks about no first round pick at 19. Is this a QB rich draft? Who would we get at 19?

  6. I love how some posters can't enjoy a victory. The love of misery is profound. The expectation of failure so profound that it is experienced before the actual event over and over again before the game even begins. When the team wins, something negative must be gleaned to maintain the validity of the "loss that never materialized". A true loser mentality.

    Amen.

  7. Practice isnt game situations. C'mon many a great player are gamers and dont practice well. 2-2 as a starter season isnt that bad. We need to see more. Orton has plenty of games on tape all very similar to todays.

He sucked this season and arguably cost us the Houston game. I'm not all-in on Orton, but I don't think EJ gets us to 9 - 7.

  8.

Players played for Jauron and Gailey. Don't see that as an issue since Gregg Williams. Marrone crippled this offense with his mismanagement of EJ, the line, and letting Hackett call brutal games. But in the end, the QB position is still a disaster and M and K Williams are a year older. No playoffs and no EJ development. Marrone should be let go as the 9 wins are a mirage. They should have lost to Green Bay and Detroit. New England had nothing to play for. They could easily be a six win team with the only solid victories against the Jets and Dolphins at home.

We should have beat the Texans, Chiefs and Raiders. By reversing your logic, we should be a 12 win team.

  9.

I think you mean bench... Not couch.

Ultimately, I have no problem with Marrone staying. But he also has to recognize that the offense is not NFL caliber and take some ownership of the horrible offense... That we've seen for 2 consecutive years.

He needs to replace Hackett with someone that's not learning on the job... Something he used as an excuse for not playing EJ. If Hackett and this offense remains status quo, I'm pretty sure next year is wasted again.

I think you have to be blind not to see the offensive issues we have. There will be changes on that side of the ball.

  10.

Under a previous owner. IMO, all bets are off regarding that.

As for rotating HCs every two/three years, let's get one, for a change, that isn't someone who has no experience or credibility as a head coach in the NFL as have been the last SIX who have led the team NOWHERE but home in the post season!

Ok...who are the top 5 you'd look at for HC?
