  1. If you had the best player in the league with the ball in his hands would you throw a lot of screens, or a lot of deep outs? Would that be an indictment on his long ball skills or a compliment to his runs after the catch?

Without the eye test, that stat only means so much.

Yeah people don't realize AJ Green caught 65% of his balls inside of ten yards. Granted only like 14% were behind the line of scrimmage, but the point is you want to get the ball in to your star player's hands ASAP. Even Megatron made 54% of his catches within 10 yards and only 11% over 20 yards.

  2. While that is certainly possible, they could also really want Watkins. Caldwell didn't say anything about him to my knowledge, he was just answering a question from the media about Blackmon. That said, he could be gone at 2.

Yeah I can see the Bills still trading with with Atlanta to jump Tampa so they can pick Evans if Watkins is gone. Evans would be a nice consolation prize, and even tho I think Watkins is superior, Evans may be the better fit for the Bills after all.

  3. given his political leanings, i'm guessing that it involves trump, assorted lotions and massive amounts of regret.

Pegula, Jacobs, and Golisano are republicans too

Did thurman say the "on like a mofo* was about the bills or did everyone just assume and get all excited over nothing

That was about Russ Brandon taking over.

  4.

But, all that would count into his net worth.

Those Forbes articles are making an estimation on what's publicly available. His East Resource company wasn't "worth" over 4 billion until he sold it. From what I understand, and of course I could be wrong, Pegula also owns and/or has invested in a number of other companies that own land prime for drilling/fracking. Again, I'm no expert, but I think that unless a company is publicly traded, they are under no obligation to disclose details about their internal structure.

I recall seeing Pegula's name tied to JKLM Energy and some other "small" companies that own land and have sought drilling permits in PA, WV, OH, NY and places out west in and around the rockies. How much he stands to benefit from those sites is up for speculation, and I don't think Forbes "counts" that in a precise manner when calculating his net worth.

  5. A very knowledgable business man I know who works in the fracking/natural gas industry recently told me that Terry Pegula has an additional $3 billion in assets/property that are untapped and prime. These assets don't figure into the speculation as to his net worth. So sounds like he is worth $3+ billion liquid and another $3+ billion assets.

I've heard something similar. He still has unsold land in West Virginia and somewhere else that's likely worth a pretty penny to oil/gas developers.

  6. Caldwell knows that Watkins is on everyone's radar and is trying to get value if it's available in a trade. "If you want Watkins, we might take him, so you better trade with us instead of Browns/Raiders/Falcons..."

Jax is either going to get Mack or Clowney. I'm thinking Texans take Mack, Rams take Robinson, and Jags get Clowney, unless any of those teams are blown away with a trade offer. Then Browns and Raiders have to take QBs- too risky not to. Falcons want an OT so they trade back with the Bills. Bills take Watkins. BOOM.

  7. considering many argue anything above the 3rd day is crazy talk for RBs, i think my point isnt totally nuts in the discussion of this board. im not saying its everyone, just that im pretty sure i see a few of those folks here.

Oh I don't think your point is nuts at all. It never ceases to amaze me how many posts I see here that I have to re-read a couple times and still don't know if someone is joking or not. I suppose we are all guilty of posting some questionable stuff, so I'm not judging at all.

I was just pointing out that many people (and I wasn't criticizing K-9, since I know he kidding around) talk about "first round picks" while ignoring that there are basically three distinct tiers in most first rounds (IMO), and the Bills and the Pats* haven't overlapped in those tiers in quite some time.

  8. I agree. In my view, smoking in seated areas and bathrooms has increased 10X since the ban.

This is 100% true. And the rationale for banning cigarettes on one's person is illogical. By getting rid of the designated smoking areas, the Bills created the problem of enforcing an extremely difficult thing to enforce. So their solution is to create another rule that's even more difficult to enforce?

  9. I'm 50/50 as well but completely 100% on board for this year and if there is at least some progress next. Not too concerned about him being injury prone, with no tears and him aware the cause for concern I'm sure there will be more precautions and necessary weight room work. Very very lucky no serious damage.

Year 2 hopefully with a full TC, he makes quicker reads and has better chemistry with SJ/Woods.

Very concerned that Hackett is outmatched, wanna see more creativity with all the speed we have. Maybe some pistol plays, and more importantly screens. CJ and Goodwin being used better can really open the field up.

No ACL/MCL/PCL tears, but he did have a small tear in his meniscus. You are right tho, that isn't as serious as tearing one of the big three.

Disagree about Hackett. If EJ had let it fly more often, and had some better o line play, I think it'd be clear that Hackett has a good head on his shoulders. I'm begging everyone who is down on Hackett to check the all-22 tape. There was so much left on the field and IMO most of it was on the QB, be it EJ or the other guys.

EDIT: To answer the OP's question, I don't know. I believe he can develop into what we need, but I'm not sold that he will. I am cautiously optimistic.

  10. I've heard Jets (as has Bandit). That could have changed, it could be both but they were certainly scheduled to play the Jets on Monday Night as of a week ago. I can't speak for Fox Sports Wisconsin's source, only for mine and they know. Whether or not that's changed it's possible but I doubt it. I am sticking with the Jets until I hear otherwise.

I also heard Jets "for sure" as of yesterday when I reached out to my "source" after seeing your initial post. Interestingly enough, the Packers game was not confirmed.

  11. I don't believe in that. I believe he's at the perfect age to have a change of lifestyle. When I hear that "his brother" stabbed him, I'm not thinking Mike Williams has growing up to do. I'm thinking I wish he had a better support system.

Side note: I love the trade. Getting him for a 6th (especially if he's productive) is a steal and we're on the winning side of FA this year. Byrd who? I forgot about that dude already.

I agree that it's a great trade and Mike Williams is an exceptional WR. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but I am familiar with his local "support system."

While I absolutely think it's possible that he turns over a new leaf and that the trade could serve as a wake up call, if he and/or the Bills do not take concrete measures to insulate him from "drama," I think he will continue to make negative headlines.

  12. When Spiller wins football games for the Buffalo Bills, I promise to heap weekly praises upon him.

Until then, I will view him as an exceptionally dumb situational player with talent. But we certainly can agree to disagree, no?

We can absolutely agree to disagree, although I think we are in agreement in a lot of ways. I certainly respect your opinion, as you have proved rather knowledgeable over the years.

To put my contention another way; Independent of our opinions of Spiller, no player outside of a QB is going to singlehandedly "win games" for a club in the modern era.

Spiller's draft position has no bearing on my opinion of how he should or could be used, nor his potential impact. Even though I think he is a dynamic player and you do not, whatever his actual value may be is marginalized by weak QB play, weak O line play, and weak WR play (which is IMO tied to weak QB play). The same can be said for Hackett, whom I think is brilliant form an Xs and Os standpoint.

So, we can agree to disagree on Spiller, but the crux of my point did not have to do with Spiller in a vacuum. I'm only referring to Spiller in comparison to the rest of the offense. A perceptive football mind like yours would key on Spiller at the expense of others when facing the Bills, wouldn't it?

  13. We can pretend that Spiller is a dynamic player. It is probably fun to do, but the fact is that he just is not. He has far too many plays in which he gains 2 or less yards. He cannot block. He often comes up short of the first down, and he is just plain dumb.

Spiller is a decent situational player and even at that he needs lots of help. He doesn't seem to see holes very well and needs wide lanes.

Other than the above, he was a solid draft selection at #9.

Well, I do think Spiller is a dynamic player. He's not AP, but even AP, whom I think all would agree is a dynamic player, can only get you so far. Maybe a sniff at the playoffs.

My point is that calling Spiller trash or "just a guy" isn't fair because the Bills had no other viable option, and everyone knew it. So to use that as an indictment of Spiller or Hackett is foolish IMO.

  14. I'm a Mike Williams fan having met him but only way I see this working out is if the Bills hire a chaperone or find some other way to keep him out of trouble.

Maybe things have changed in the last year and a half, but if recent news is any indication, the guy has a lot of growing up to do.

  15. ugh so many of you dont get that spiller was the number one weapon banged up or not.

If you were playing the Bills and had to game plan against their offense you would key in on Spiller every play and dare someone else to beat you. EJ hasnt proven he can consistently.

Healthy Spiller was good enough to make Gailey look good (if 6-10 is good), but banged up Spiller was not enough to make Hackett and his carousel of QBs look good, especially since the book was out on Spiller.

  16. It's been a while since the NFL has failed in a city, so it will be interesting to see how many risks they're willing to take.

I think it can be argued that the NFL is failing in Jacksonville. I don't really disagree with the rest of your post, especially in light of relocating the Bills. Not only is there an inherent risk in a new market, the league would be walking away from an established market, albeit relatively small.

Expansion is one thing- relocating adds another important dimension.
