I used to really look forward to Joe B's takes on thr Bills and draft content going back to his young days at WGR......but the last several years with the athletic his content hasn't been the same, IMO.  It's always like he's walking on eggshells, afraid to just tell it like he sees it.

I still listen, but I've just noticed a difference.

Feel like he was pretty fair on that podcast.

  2. Feel like the Cover1 guys brought up some good points, Allen has to step up, last couple of years he hasn’t done much in the off-season by his own admission. Time to step and lead the new guys, flat out all eyes on him now.  This wasn’t all on Diggs, he has his share of the blame, but maybe Allen’s getting a complacent and this is a way to get everyone in check.

Move on from Diggs, he may have asked for a trade because Beane flat out would not deny it, which is strange.  Diggs gets a new start, Bills get some compensation, and Josh has to lead the new guys and focus on ball.

McDermotts always talking about competition and challenging guys, and it’s clear that this will be a really challenging year for a lot of the Vets on this team. The old guard is gone, time for everyone to focus up, and get their heads right or they’re in for a rough season.

Been hearing Babich praise for years now.. Seems to be super loyal and very respected by players and coaches

Dodson had a great tweet showing Babich extreme love earlier today. I never heard a bad thing about this man, can't find Dodson twitter but if you got time check it out

But this mentality is phenomenal and I feel was built by McD and this teams culture -

I saw that full press conference last year, and I was impressed by him.  Not sure how he’ll do as dc, but great communication skills.

  4. Watching the Ravens D get worked early in the game, and then just force punt after punt put things in perspective for all of us.

On the one hand, the Ravens O just looked bad, and the Chiefs were under no threat to press for point, yet we all know Mahomes and Reid would light up the board even if they weren't pressed and yet the Ravens D just clamped them.

We need to get our ***** in gear on D.

  5. The almost int play was also so poor, we're trying to run a post with TE to free up a Dig route, really shows how a few changes can drastically alter a play design.  We swap routes for Kincaid/Diggs and that play probably works better, but as is, Josh had nothing but the check down to Cook.

The 2nd & 9 wasn’t the problem. That was actually the right pass of Jones doesn’t push Dawkins back into Josh’s lap. That throw is no different than the shot downfield to Diggs who came up empty after it went through both hands…

The 3rd down after was an issue though… checking it down immediately instead of rushing out of the pocket and rolling to the side everyone flooded to is rough. Looking back on it, even though in the moment it would be hard to see, Josh should have stepped up in the pocket and bailed left instead of what he ended up doing…

Either way, Josh put us in a position to take a lead, tie or win the game several times. Collective miscues from the team as a whole let us finish the season Sunday.

Hated that 3rd down design, if that's the best we can do then I don't like it.  Josh doesn't seem to be a big fan of those really short crossers in tight coverage, and that's the only option he had.  Plus, KC wasn't really rushing up field, they were looking to bat balls down, just like they did on the Knox 3rd down throw on the first drive of the game that resulted in FG.

Great content by Warner as always.

  7. Said it to my brother a while back, but I fear for Taron's future because he's given his life for this sport.  The way he plays, all out 1000%, you end up paying for it down the road.  I appreciate what he does for this team, but how many of us will be there for him after his playing days are done.  Obviously this is me projecting, and I hope I end up dead wrong, and he lives a relatively healthy life after he's done playing.

Wow, on that uncalled-DPI play to Knox, Josh initially had Cook in the flat (Warner thinks it's a walk in TD if thrown promptly, I don't see it or he should know)

But OK- behind Knox, Kincaid was SCREAMINGLY WIDE open.

    Sheesh.

Its actually Reggie that's open to the flat, do I want Josh throwing to the fullback unless hes wide, not sure, but there were multiple options available for Josh and the play was a good one against that coverage.

Josh doesn't like throwing it to the flat when it's tight.  Like we used to see Tom Brady hit those tight flat plays so often, he had it down to a science.  Later in the video you  see Josh passing up the flat route on 4th and 2 on a tight flat throw, I just don't think he feels comfortable throwing it.

Just my 2 cents from all the years of watching him.

Just throwing it out there, would you rather have Knox's 21 season or Kincaid's 23?

    49 catches 587 yards 9TDs

    vs

    66 catches 589 yards 2TDs

    both in 15 games

I think Kincaid is having a good season and is a good TE.  That said I like Knox's toughness and what he brought to the offense.  I'm not sure if you are only putting one on the field that we're better off with Kincaid.  I repeat this isn't a knock on Kincaid.

I got a soft spot for Knox.  Yeah, he's had drop issues, but again, I feel like we didn't use him enough in the past, and yet we drafted another TE.

This is really the gist of it, you look at what the Bills offense is doing the last 4 seasons, and the TE position was not targeted enough.  It's the same thing with running back, until recently, we barely targeted them in the pass game and yet everyone wanted us to get a pass catching back.  Doesn't matter what tools you have if you keep them in the shed.  I'm sure thing will change going forward in some ways.

Should we revisit the TE stats thread where a good number of you said he was going to have 1,000 yards receiving and 10 TD's? Nobody drafts a TE high in the first round because they don't provide bang for your buck. It's not a position of value. A good rookie TE season was always going to be roughly what Kincaid has given us which is nothing to write home about compared to a great #2 receiver (Flowers, Nacua).

Not like Flowers numbers are really anything to write home about either, although that's going to change in the long term for sure.

I just watched all-22 of the first two drives of this game and my first takeaway is that we need to start designing the reads to account for the fact that Diggs is no longer a reliable 1v1 option.

So first passing play of the game is blown up by McGovern and Torrence. Allen comes out of play action, literally everybody is going to be open but he already has pressure in his face by two interior rushers and the play is DOA.

2nd passing play - Allen immediately looks at Diggs running a whip route 1v1 to the short right side of the field. Diggs never comes close to separating. In the past this has been an automatic completion. By the time Allen moves to his next read the OL has been beat and he launches a very low percentage pass to Kincaid downfield just to get rid of the ball. On the left side of the field Shakir actually beats his man on a deep out route. It's a beautiful route. But Allen started with Diggs on the other side (presumably because this is the built in #1 matchup against man coverage) and that was that.

3rd play - This is right after our INT so we have the ball inside the 20. Diggs runs a post corner to the left. Allen starts by checking middle field safety who runs right to cover Kincaid. After confirming Diggs is now in single coverage he stares him down but once again Diggs never comes close to separating so Allen ends up throwing the ball away as pressure gets there (not the OL's fault - it's a 6 man blitz). If Allen had looked to replace the blitz with the throw he would have hit Shakir running a quick slant off the line for probably a 6 or 7 yard gain. But apparently his read is automatically look at Diggs if Diggs is in 1v1 coverage.

The 4th passing play is Cook dropping the screen on 3rd down.

I don't have time for more right now, but my big takeaway is they need to remove Diggs 1v1 in man coverage as an automatic read. Diggs just isn't that guy right now.

Remember that deep out to Shakir, he was wide open, but Allen never really went that way.  Shakir hasn’t had enough opportunities given how often he seems to get open, he’s a crafty sob.
