So again let's not give our all world QB a 1st round talent at WR.   Christ people...

Just because we pick a receiver in the first round at 28 doesn't mean he's a 1st round talent. Past the top 5, (Mitchell is #5) the rest are second day picks IMO. So why pick a WR in the first round just to say you did it?

Not that I want Sanders kid on the team, but his words do tend to have a lot of influence on college players in general.

"I don’t want my kid [Shedeur] going nowhere cold next year. He grew up in Texas. He played in Jackson, played in Colorado. Season’s over before it gets cold in Colorado. I’m just thinking way ahead. I don’t want that for him.”

“Let me tell you something that I have a problem with,” Deion told Russo. “And this kid can flat out play, I think he’s the best one on the board this year for sure. A kid that’s coming from California for the last couple years, right? And went to Oklahoma. That’s not terribly cold. Chicago’s cold, man. You gotta think about that kind of stuff when you’re taking a young man. Like see, when you take a guy from Ohio State and you bring him to Chicago, OK, I could understand that. But from California to Chicago? Not only that, they added what? One or two more games in the NFL. Seventeen games. Come on, man. You gotta factor in that stuff. That stuff matters."

Boo Frickety hoo. So you may have to collect your millions playing in the cold. Christ, he always was soft.

Criticism that's based on reality is valid, but much of the criticism of Beane/McDermott recently hasn't been based on facts but rather on posters' untrue perceptions or ignorance.   Check out the thread on the Mack Hollins signing for criticism that descended into crucification of Beane based on a single poster's ignorance, but there have been plenty of others.

I wasn't aiming at you when I originally posted in this thread, but your criticism of Beane in the bolded sentence above is both unfair and disingenuous -- and certainly unworthy of criticism.   While it is technically true that Beane hasn't drafted a WR in rounds 1 or 2, he did use a first round draft pick to acquire Stephon Diggs.

Oh, you guys mean like  ...

    • Collecting draft capital and doing due diligence so that the Bills could not only move up in the 2018 draft to take a QB but to take the right QB?
    • Hiring Brian Daboll and then adding Ken Dorsey to develop Josh Allen into a generational QB talent?
    • Trading for Stephon Diggs?
    • Drafting Terrel Bernard in 2022 to replace Tremaine Edmunds?
    • Trading for Rasul Douglas at the trade deadline because he knew that he wasn't going to keep White in 2024?

Yeah but what about Wyatt Teller? I mean, that negates everything. Read it on TSW!

I think that Buffalo fans are used to NHL trades because player for player trades are common. The NFL is a different beast. Other teams cannot “pick up a chunk of dead cap.” It is money that has already been paid in signing bonuses to circumvent the cap. If you trade a player, you pay the price for the cap shenanigans. If the Bills trade or cut Diggs they will carry a massive amount of cap for a player that is playing for another team. There is no way around it.

Someone will bring up Ostweiler as a response to this, but the texans traded a stupid contract, not dead money.

    Got it.

Good news! He's certainly a gamer, just wish we weren't so enamored with small WR's. With Diggs, Shakir and Samuel, at least half our WR room will be 6ft or under. No complaints with the signing just hoping for more size moving forward.

He's an inch taller than Tyreek and ran a 4.31. He'll be fine.

I knew the Bills brought him on but i've never heard of him, so that kind of tells me he's either not done a lot in his career, was a 1 year wonder & Beane is hoping he can be it again, or he is a camp body for competition purposes .

Kind of like Sherfield was which took up a roster spot & made 1 big play all year .

Cover 1 did a nice breakdown of Hollins' game. He will bring more to the table than Sherfield did, but that said, he's not WR2.  He does have a knack of giving QB's someone to throw to in a pinch. Check out the Cover 1 video. He's a good pick up. But we need WR2.
