  1. I'm not trying to bash the paper, and I understand if they did. I live in NYC, and the papers have cut back on covering teams on the road. I just want to know.

Road games often don't get covered. It's a reflection of how the rest of the paper is run. First off, the actual size of the paper has shrunk - not just number of pages, but in actual size. It's tiny. In ROC, we believe they are getting ready to make the D&C a local insert in USA Today for our region. The editorial board ranks as one of the worst I've read. For sports, the writing is tired and stories few. I read about four papers a day online after the 6-8 minutes it takes to read the D&C. You starve for good Bills coverage and were only 60 miles east!

  2. Bills sign two free agents that are potential starters and all they run is the AP story? Anybody know what's going on? Lori?

I live in Rochester and you have to understand, the D&C is pathetic. They're down to maybe a handful of real reporters and no copy editors. The stuff is unreadable. It's a damn shame but the paper is simply lame. As a former Buffalonian, you don't know what you have until it's gone. The Buff News is a much better product.

  3. I live in East Tennessee and have seen every Vols game folks...........STOP!!! The only reason people are calling for Dan Williams at 9 is because you've read he is the best NT prospect in the draft supposedly. This would be WAY too high for him. He'd be a nice player to have and all but he can't raise the level of a teams run D like someone like T Cody has. Williams didn't really even do that for his college team people, taking him top 10 would be a HUGE reach. He's also a one year wonder somewhat as he only had one good season and that was under ole Monte Kiffen in a 4-3 defense. If we had a pick in the late 20's sure, I'd like Dan Williams. But don't try and make yourselves feel better by thinking this is a chance to right the wrong of the Whitner/ Ngata disaster. Williams is not an elite prospect like that.

Geez, two consecutive threads I'm agreeing with you. Just because he's a big body doesn't mean he's our answer, particularly at #9. Cody better fits our needs. It's shaping up that we need a two down run stuffer and to let the penetrators in on 3rd down. Williams is unproven. Cody is like moving a hay stack. But at the end of the day, I'll trust Buddy to get it right. He's not a fan of one year wonders.

  4. The Tebow pick is coming. You know it. I know it. Deep down everyone knows its.The sooner you accept it the better off you'll be.

I don't feel that way. I'm not sold on a guy who has to change how he throws a few weeks before the draft. Still, given what Buddy and the FO have accomplished the past 24 hours, I'll sit back and let Buddy make the call. The guy knows football players.

  5. Him being injured last year, kind of tough to tell. I think this year with him playing a new position, you gotta watch him play some real games too see if he's the answer as a 3-4 end. He could be an absolute monster there or just average.

I have to agree. He's durable and played hurt. His past performance should give him the benefit of the doubt. If he plays, he stays. If he's finished, it won't take long into the seasont to tell. He's a qualtiy guy and we shouldn't give up on him based on last year's D with terrible linebacking.

  6. More than half of Byrds int's were due to the qb making a bad play, not byrd making a good play. All he has shown is that he can catch the ball. He is slow and takes terrible angles to the ball. Still needs alot of work and probably wont develop into a superstar like people think.

Okay, it's your first post and we'll cut you a break. But your next dumbass post is fair game.

  7. I think the Jags will trade up in the second to get him

Okay by me. I just asked this question on another thread. I would not chance a high pick on a guy that has to learn to throw all over again. Does anybody on this board know of anyone who has suceeded in the NFL after having to change their "mechanics" so drastically?

  8. I sure hope not! I would take McCoy waaaay before taking Tebow. I like this kids character and his performance speaks for itself.

Agreed. McCoy doesn't have to learn how to throw all over again. Hey board, I'm not sure but do you know of anyone

who has ever "changed" their mechanics and worked out at the next level?

  9. wins at the end of next year will hardly tell who is doing a better job.

All that action by the Browns and Jake is their QB? He may have a 80% completion rate between his recievers and the defenders each catching a lot of balls. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

  10. Hadn't seen this posted yet. Got it off of PFT.

The writer, Andy Benoit, is young but acclaimed. Before criticizing him for not being an ex-scout, GM, etc. read the piece. It's quite short but I think the takes are pretty accurate and at least, backup many of the opinions voiced on this board. At the same time, they're the opinions of an "outsider" and that's what makes it interesting.

Nothing earth shaking but thought you'd all be interested. And his opinions are based upon video review.

Acclaimed? He's a blogger. Hell, I'm old but acclaimed then. I say we're going to help ourselves by picking up a mid level FA or two and draft smartly. That's the plan and all of you who want the big FA splash, go back and revel in Donahoe's FA whirlwind. You'll end up back here.

  11. I'm all for sitting out free agency, they are awful at it anyway.

Problem is, they have to draft a lot smarter than they have. Last years draft is nothing for a rebuilding team to hang it's hat on.

Wood and Levitre were interior offensive lineman picked on the first day. That's like shooting fish in a barrel. Byrd was a success, but he's also a free safety. Again, not a hard position to fill. Nelson showed very little. On a good team, he'd be way down the depth chart.

In short, the Bills added three starting type players at "filler"positions and a TE with some potential but nothing else. What has killed this team on draft day is not getting the difference makers at KEY positions of QB, OT, DT and DE filled. They tried with Maybin, but on tape it appears that this guy is not fast or physical enough to be special as a DE or rush OLB.

In recent years they have gotten too cute on draft day. Reaching up for an undersized SS in Whitner, using a #11 overall on a RB without speed or size or hands then trading away valuable extra picks to move up and get "deadweight" McCargo and Poz. Even if they nailed the Whitner, Lynch and Poz picks they still wouldn't have gotten franchise type players. They've been careless on draft day, reaching, trading up for average talent, not working to stockpile picks and subsequently increase their odds of success......

Now that Nix is the GM, hopefully they can start building this team like a winner. But right now, I will "Billieve" it when I see it.

I agree with your premise, but don't paint with too wide a brush. Shooting fish in a barrel? Easy to find a free satety? Nelson showed little? That's just not accurate. . Last year's draft (save Maybin and he still may show something) was damn good and is indeed something we can build on. Drafting takes smarts, patience, work, investigtion and guts. A little luck helps. Buddy's shown all of that in his track record.

  12. If we dont select a tackle in round one who could we look to pick up at that position in later rounds. I, like a lot of people here, think they will reach for Tebow in the first.

Gee, that's a great idea. Let's pass on players that will start from day one and be a mainstays for a decade and instead use our first round pick for a quarterback that has to learn to throw all over again just to get drafted.

Maybe after a few years he might get to play! Yeah, Tebow would be great - people know his name and he was on a commercial and everything!!!!!!

    I love this plan.

  13. I love how fans include themself in the decision making process. People who say We when referring to the Bills make me laugh.

Why the Hell to you waste time on this board? If you're a fan, you say we. We get the business end of the NFL. We get that the team could be gone, yatta yatta. But the fun part of this is following the team. I've been doing it for 47 seasons and I've had many near bouts with depression. I've critcised and bitched out coachs, Ralph, GM's etc. But at the end of the day, it's my team and I'm going to say "we" til it ain't so any longer. It's called being a fan. What the Hell are you? If you hate everything about the team why are you on this board? Go follow the Argos.....

  14. This is your dream?

Wow! Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed.

    Your dream is very mediocre.

Throw the guy a bone. I understand his desire here. I too am sick of most of the posting brain-dead on this page who just say we'll suck, blah, blah.

But let's be realistic. If we sign Kennedy and draft a NT, it's still a line with two DT's (Stroud and KW) who haven't played DE. It's two DE's (Maybin, Kelsay or AS) who have never played LB. It's not clear they can make the switch. in Maybin's case, he's got to prove he belongs on the field in any position. It's going to take a few years to get the right people on the bus and playing together. I will bet the ranch we play more modified 4-3 sets than what you would call a basic 3-4 this next year. It's going to be a rebuilding year. After 47 years following the team, that's a tough thing to face. But, hey guys, man-up and let's let Buddy get it done.

  15. He's not tough enough to play the middle. Is it me or is everyone disappointed in this guy?

He's a penetrating DT not a low to the ground, wide body NT. He's tall and about 300 to 310 pounds. So no, I'm not disappointed in him. He's durable and our best lineman. He may play nose in certain situation, but he's not a NT. He may be better off dropping a few pounds and becoming a DE.

  16. Why would we draft any quarterback who idn't used to playing in the cold?

Time after time we have tried Qb's from California and other warm weather states (with the exception of Jimbo) and it hasn't worked.

The California qb's we had didn't suck because of the cold, they sucked because they sucked. They couldn't read defenses, held on to the ball too long and lacked nerve to throw more than five yards. Those that left here still sucked and those about to leave will not improve because of a lack of snow. This is just about talent and not weather.
