  1. Look at a team like San Diego or Indianapolis. When is the last time you heard either of these teams signing a HUGE free agent. In San Diego, it's actually quite the opposite. They have let go guys like LT, Drew Brees, Michael Turner, Shawne Merriman, Antonio Cromartie, and so on. They trust their management to bring in fresh new talent through the draft and don't want to overpay for something they know they can get cheaper(which is probably why Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill will be playing elsewhere in the near future). I don't think the Bills will ever be a team that signs top tier FA. I really think that Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey are on the right track and I am really excited to see what additions are brought in this offseason.

  2. His rookie year hasnt been all that electrifying, but It's hard not to see his potential. Dude can make people miss, and his acceleration is instant. I'm willing to give him another year:)

Absolutely. Maybe my post looks like I've given up on him, but that's not what I meant. I think he still has a boatload of potential. I was just pointing out that the yardage THIS year isn't impressive to me. Except for the 90+ yard KO return for TD vs the Pats*

Even the announcers in yesterday's game said when they sat and talked with him the night before he couldn't believe the difference in the speed of the pro game opposed to the college game. They said the learning curve has been steep for him but I'm thinking he'll get it down. Maybe a Darren McFadden type of turn around next year!!

    GO BILLS!!!

Is that for a punt returner or a punt catcher?

Please clarify, I have no idea what you're talking about.

  3. Spiller as quitly gained 1331.4 all purpose yards this year with two games left.

The remaining two game could easily amount to another 200 yards, for a projected total of 1500 +.

Not to bad I would say with his limited role.

    Just an opinion.

I am not quite sure how the yardage was narrowed all the way down to tenths of a yard, but whatever.

I am assuming that 90% of these yards are on kickoff/punt returns. It's not that impressive. You get an almost automatic 20-25 yards per KO return if you're decent.

  4. The better question is what teams would rather have Fitz than their current starter.

Cleveland, Carolina, San Fran, Arizona, Miami ... maybe the Jets. That's about it.

I don't know what each team's management thinks, but I think that Fitzpatrick is better than or the equivilant of....

    Chad Henne (Miami)

    Mark Sanchez (NY Jets)

Colt McCoy or Jake Delhomme (Cleveland)

    Carson Palmer (Cincinnati)

    David Garrard (Jacksonville)

Vince Young or Kerry Collins (Tennessee)

    Matt Cassel (KC)

    Kyle Orton (Denver)

Jason Campbell or Bruce Gradkowski (Oakland)

Donovan McNabb or Rez Grossman (Washington)

    Matt Stafford (Detroit)

Brett Favre or Tarvaris Jackson (Minnesota)

    Jimmy Claussen (Carolina)

Alex or Troy Smith (San Francisco)

John Skelton or Derek Anderson (Arizona)

Matt Hasselbeck or Charlie Whitehurst (Seattle)

Jay Cutler (Chicago) ...you think Fitz throws too many INTs?

The only guys I put over Fitzpatrick would be....

Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Joe Flacco, Peyton Manning, Matt Schaub, Philip Rivers, Tony Romo, Michael Vick, Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, and Matt Ryan. Not in that order.

I think Josh Freeman and Sam Bradford have tremendous upside and could end up above Fitz soon but I would right now place them equal to him or slightly below.

So by my rankings, Fitz isn't an elite passer by any means, but there are only 12 teams in the NFL that CLEARLY wouldn't take Fitzpatrick over who they already have.

  5. OK so who thinks he has now surpassed Lee Evans.....

He was the number one receiver today.....2 TD's

Ummm...I saw only 1 TD that counted during the game, and only 1 on the stat sheet.

He's sure shown a lot this year and I hope he keeps it up, but come on guys, you can never have too many weapons/options at the skill positions. I mean we did lose Evans and Parrish for the year. Depth is never a bad thing.

  6. Enough skeptics, Fitz is our guy. Can thread the needle. Bright, String Tough, Inexpensive.

15 straight games with a td. Think about that stat.

21 tds 11 picks, not to shabbee.

    Can run the ball. Mobile.

Played with how many different lines??

    Full beard...

How cheap is he,.... The cheapest top 20 qb in the NFL. Use this qb money for other holes.

Stop with the draft qb nonsense. Why waste a top 8-10 pick on a qb when we have so many other holes to fill?

Plus, drafting qbs is a total crapshoot ( we all ready know this how many wasted picks since kelly, uhhh 3 #1's).

This is defensive filled draft. Get Lbs and d linemen.

Fitz has sold himself to this 30+ year Buffalo bills fan.

23 TDs- 12 INTs in just 12 games. In comparison, Aaron Rodgers has 23 TDs-10 INTs in 13 games this year. I'd say that's good company.

  7. I have heard Bill Cowher say he will never talk about a job that is already taken. Sure there are rumors going around, but I highly doubt he walks around with a little Christmas list of teams he would like to coach in his back pocket. Now that his wife has passed away (which is what I think kept him from returning to coach sooner) he will seriously entertain intriguing offers and return to coaching whenever the NFL and it's players get their heads out of their asses and get a new CBA hashed out.

  8. its an NFC problem. the NFC sucks. I don't care. the rules are what they are. The Rams and Cards will be fine next year and win 9-10 games. just let it go for this year as an abberation. the rivalries are very important in the NFL and although the NFC West rivalries are the worst in football, they do exist and need to mean something..

An NFC problem? Maybe nobody whines about it because it was New England who missed out, but in the 2008 season the Chargers won the division with an 8-8 record while the Pats* DIDN'T EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS with an 11-5 record (they lost out on a tiebreaker with the Dolphins for the AFC East) and the NY Jets even had a winning record and missed out. I don't know if there's any way that a division winner gets NO playoff berth, but I think maybe you change the rules (NOT THIS YEAR) to re-seed playoff teams by their records. So if a wild card team has a better record than a division winner, they get seeded higher and would actually host a playoff game.

  9. its an actual photo of my head

    - meatenstein

If I have a nightmare tonight from a grocery shopping experience gone wrong, I've got no one to blame but myself for looking at that photo so long. I start chuckling in that real nervous sort of way. Well done, Meathead, you've made a lasting impression.

GO BILLS!!! and not pre-packaged skinned faces.

  10. most people view qbs like spouses before they get married - they want perfection. everybody wants the next manning. everybody wants the next june cleaver

so would i but thats irrational. theres only so many of each. and in the nfl its even worse cuz you gotta marry somebody

give fitz a fourish year extenstion and make somebody take the job away from him

Off the subject, the photo on your avatar is terrifying.

On the subject, there are still 3 big divisional games in which still need to be played that will go a long way in determining if Fitz is our long term answer, but if we win all 3 or 2 of 3 and Fitz plays like he's been playing for most of this season, he should without question be the man going into next season. If we really like a QB in the draft and have a chance to get him, I think we should and let him learn under Fitz for a couple years (see Aaron Rodgers) and MAYBE in a couple years we have the same "problem" that SD had with Brees and Rivers.

  11. When asked about the Pats running up the score on his (then) Bills, Dick Jauron said "I have no problem with it. It's our job to stop it."

Even a busted clock is right twice a day.

I rather like the Ravens myself. On a good day, Ravens over Pitts and even Ravens over NE*

It does give me a positive feeling about the Bills direction that we shaved both Pitts and Ravens really close.

If we could only beat the Patriots* I would end the season happy.

I have to agree with the Ravens in there, too. I don't know if they'll go into Gillette Stadium or Heinz Field and win there in January, but I would put them in the conversation. Of all the AFC teams I wouldn't mind seeing in the Super Bowl, the Chargers or the Ravens would probably be my preference (if SD gets in, that is). KC would be an interesting turn around story if they were to pull off some upsets, imagine Matt Cassel beating Tom Brady in the AFC Championship game in NE.

  12. While I think that the Pats are the best team in the NFL, I don't think that they've magically transformed into that runaway freight train of a team a few years ago. As locked in as Brady's been lately, their defense is not all that good. I think that they've been playing teams that have wilted for whatever reason. Steelers suck against the spread, the Jets were an average team that had more than a few lucky wins and the Bears flat out quit once the Pats got up by a couple of touchdowns.

We'll see what happens when they come to the Ralph in a couple of weeks. I have a feeling that the Bills are going to win, because they have the offense that can scare the Pats, the Bills have the DBs who can pull off M2M coverage and the crowd will be in a frenzy that day. This is the Bills' superbowl this year. The Bills will of course be lucky to beat a team that's much better than them, but I sense that this is the game where the Pats come down to earth. Stub their toe.

The whole NFL has been one big ball of parity this season, I just don't buy into the Pats being juggernauts just yet.

I certainly think we're capable of pulling off an upset here, as long as Fitz plays one of his really good games this year. I actually feel like we can pull off the 1/2 division sweep at the end of the year and finish the season with a 6-2 record (wouldn't that be something?). It would be a really nice treat for the fans to end our embarrassing losing streak to the Patriots*.

While I agree with your assessment that the Pats* are not the team they were in 2007, they have proven themselves (so far, at least) as the class of the AFC and one of the top 2 teams in the NFL. In another season they may not even be a top 5 team, but IMO, this year (given the parity) they're the best (sure hope to god that changes in the playoffs!!)

  13. The Steelers are overrated too. They have a weak offense and can't stop the spread offense. They needed a dropped "money" ball to beat us.

I would not be shocked at all if it was a New England vs Pittsburgh AFC Championship game. So please, if you don't mind, tell me who isn't overrated, in your opinion. In the AFC, I can't name a team who would beat either of these 2 teams in the playoffs, aside from San Diego, who may not even make the playoffs.

  14. I think the Pats have recently became a much overrated team. The last couple of weeks they happened to face a couple of teams that just layed down like dogs.

Their defense isn't any good and the Bills have an offense that can keep up with the Pats now.

I think the Patriots beat up on the Packers then get shocked by the Bills next week who'll finally punch them in the face and knock them off their high horse in front of an absolute crazy Ralph. It's gonna happen people. I can feel it.

They have beaten Baltimore, San Diego, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, NY Jets, and Chicago this year so far(all teams that will probably be in the playoffs this year). They laid 2 eggs this year against the Browns and the Jets, other than that, only the Falcons could be "ranked" as a higher team this year. I sure hope they get knocked out of the playoffs, but they've got the makings for another Super Bowl run. I don't really think of overrated when I think of them. The way they embarrassed the Steelers at Heinz Field told me a lot about them.
