The thing that causes me to doubt it will be Julio Jones is venue.  Most of these receiver contracts are based on production metrics, right?  I mean, they're going to make their money on number of catches, yards after catch, touchdowns, etc.  I think it's pretty quantitative.  So if you're Julio Jones, you're going from a situation in which you're guaranteed to play 9 games in a dome to a situation in which you're going to play essentially every game outdoors (depending on the division through which you're rotating).  The only decent weather you can be guaranteed is the away game in Miami, and even THAT might be raining.  You're going from no wind, no rain, no snow, 72 degrees and perfect conditions to a crap shoot.

I'm certainly not saying it can't be done, but my GUESS is that this has to figure into the calculation.  If he's looking to move on and he wants to maximize the numbers for what will likely be his last contract, he might be better off in a place like Minnesota, or Indianapolis.

Guess it all depends what offer is put in front of him.  But I wouldn't be surprised if this figures into the decision.

I agree with alot of your post, however the beauty of the trade is it isn’t up to the player.  Lesean McCoy is a good example.

What do you think that cost is?  The Cowboys gave up a #1 for Amari Cooper - who at the time of the trade was considerably under performing compared to Julio Jones, even though he is 4 years younger I believe.  The Cowboys at the time were legitimately a passing threat away from making a playoff run due to their poor division.

2nd this year and 3rd next. He wants a new contract and after spending a 1st on Ridley last year you have to imagine they don’t wanna give him close to 20 million a year.

There are not going to be a load of Quarterbacks picked ahead of us pushing talent down.

This is just not a very good QB draft. I mean the Oklahoma kid is talented but he is about 3 foot 6....  Haskins is extremely raw and if there are teams really willing to pick the West Virginia kid in the top 10 I say good luck to them. They will need it.

I agree but I would venture to guess there will be atleast 2 QBs chosen ahead of us whether they should be or not. You know how teams fall in love when the pads come off in the spring. The combine somehow makes them forget about what they actually did or didnt do their whole college career.

The offense is part of that problem though. Bad offenses put defenses in bad positions all the time.

The defense can definitely get better. I don't think they are average, though. They are certainly a good defense.

So all of the pick 6s and turnovers on our own side of the field should count but not total yardage?

I don't mean to be a wise guy, but who is Reggie McKenzie?  What's a waterbug type running back and why would we need that type?

*Fixed. And it is a Chan Gailey quote meaning fast/quick receiving RB.  And I think it is pretty obvious why Allen could use one not over the age of 30.

We’re building a young (and cheap) team to move forward. I don’t see an expensive flashy move for a guy who will be over the hill by the time we are seriously competing.

    .

The young and cheap groundwork has been established. Eventually you also have to become “buyers”

to compliment the young and cheap method.  Much like the Sabres have got the foundation now and will be “buyers” at this years trade deadline. Eventually when you get close you do what it takes to win now.  If you watch the games we are already competing at a high level. We are not years away, we are a year away.

  7. A match made in heaven.  He wants a new contract. The Falcons just took Ridley in the 1st round and will probably be rebuilding with a new coach. He will be 30 next year and has shown no signs of slowing down.

I actually EXPECT Beane to make a run for him this off season.  We have seen he likes to wheel and deal and next year he will have the $ and picks at his disposal.  It fills probably our biggest need besides O-line, which is a true #1 reciever. Give him a 3 year 60 million dollar extension and everybody is happy. I don’t know what it would take to get him, maybe a 1st and a 4th or so.

Then our 2019 Wr would look something like:

    1.Julio Jones

    2. Zay Jones

    3. Isiah Mckenzie

    4. Robert Foster

    5. Fill in the blank

Get Allen a “waterbug” type running back, a # 1 tight end, 3 more offensive linemen and you have a division winner next year IMO. Oh yeh and a new special teams coach for good measure.
