  1. So what happens if an NFL player walks into a casino in Vegas or Atlantic City? Or a horse racing track in NY or KY? or a dog racing track or Jai-Alai fronton in Miami? or (horror of horrors!!!) a church bingo hall? All of these places are full of gamblers. I can see it now "I was banned from the NFL for going to a church function, I never should have said hi to grandma in there"
  2. As I said earlier, who on the OL depth chart do you think should have a guaranteed, no-compete lock on a roster slot? Let them all slug it out and earn their position on the active roster. 2008 should only be a model for roster positions if you want the same results in 2009.
  3. Remember that he signed a 3 yr deal instead of the standard 2 yr contract for UDFAs. 3 yr offers are reserved for prime prospects. The only way the Bills FO(as tight as they are) would shell out for the larger signing bonus that goes with a 3 yr deal is if they were trying to win him in a bidding war. That means that other teams recognize his huge up-side also. I think it's a great risk to try to shepherd him to the practice squad when he could serve the role of a special teams/ short yardage contributor now while he continues to polish his skills. How many threads will get started if he gets snached up by GB or worse yet NE and becomes an all-pro player in 2 yrs. I can hear it now, "ohh how could they be so stipid as to let sombody with that much promise go. I knew we should have kept him"
  4. I wouldn't be too quick to kick Joel Bell to to the practice squad. The desire to prove he deserves to be on the team is a great motivator. Having not played football at all until the 11th grade no one thought he could be a starter but he was. with only 2 yrs of experience no one thought he could make an impact at the college level, he became an all american. Going to a smaller school people said he was playing inferior opponents, ask the DEs from CLemson, UNC and Va Tech what they think of his skills. He's always had people telling him he can't do it but he just keeps getting the job done. It all boils down to motivation and personal pride. He's got the size, speed, and agility to do the job. He comes from a BSD school so he hasn't had pro style coaching yet. If he learns quickly, which his 1st wonderlic of 29/40 and is completed college degree (which stands him ahead of half the guys who were drafted) indicates he can, he may surprise you. Also, as shaky as the OL is it would be foolish for the coaching staff to have a pre-set depth chart before the mid point of training camp.
  5. How about Chuck Liddell from the UFC. With our weakness at LT it would be good to have someone at QB that can take a hit.
  6. I heard there's this guy named Madden that's not doing much right now. I think he's some kind of software designer.
  7. That's OK, I can't believe I used the phrase "negative nancy". Does this mean I have to become an interior designer now?
  8. If you would have read down to post #14 you would have had your answer before going off half cocked. BTW the original post was not satire; it was an analogy alluding to a parable. Mamma always said "It's better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt" - Forrest Gump
  9. I wonder if we can work a preseason trade? The FO can get its increased season ticket sales and the team doesn't have to suffer with him.
  10. You give a realistic estimate of 2 yrs left in him but I guarantee he thinks he'll be worth a 4 yr 10mil/yr contract with an option yr. I agree that it was a ploy to sell tickets and the fans will flock in to cheer him on. The only problem is that he's used to being the focus of attention in big media markets. He won't be satisfied being the big fish in a small pond. He wants the whole world to watch him. That's why I say the possession catches won't satisfy him, they don't make the sportscenter highlight clips. The sting of death will land him on sportscenter.
  11. Do you think T.O. will be satisfied with 100 possession type catches for the season? There's no glory in a 5 yd slant on your own 30. He wants ALL of the cheers and attention. That is what this scorpion feeds on. When he is starved for adulation he will do whatever it takes to get it.
  12. It'll never happen. T.O. is the scorpion and the Bills are the frog. He knows he needs to rehabilitate his image to get an offer from a top team at the end of the season. He knows if he pulls the disruptive prima dona act he will throw away $50+ mil in future earnings. This will keep him relatively under control through mid season. BUT he is the scorpion and even if the Bills are his only chance to reach the payday at the end of the season, he will sting the Bills with his antics. The locker room will become a circus and the season will die a horrible death. HE'S A SCORPION, WHAT ELSE CAN HE DO?
  13. Hey, I think somebody just cut Vinny Testaverde! Our QB problems are solved, WooHoo!!!
  14. Now that's a fine novel. I didn't learn that much history when I read War and Peace Seriously, that was time well spent. It helps you understand why a player may be a good fit for 1 team but not for another that has the same needs. Thanks.
  15. Thanks for sharing. How are things out there in right field?
  16. Or, if he's a camper (he's the size of an RV), he'll sharpen your heels and drive you in the ground like a tent stake.
  17. I guess I should have Cha Cha'd that one.
  18. Cha Cha... never heard of them before. Do they dance around the hard questions?
  19. Wikipedia is proof of the axiom - garbage in, garbage out. Any other sources?
