  1. Stroud makes more sense at NT than DE to me. Is he really fast enough to get around the corner? I thought Maybin had the fastest first step in the universe which can't be coached. Why not give him another shot at DE instead of trying to make him into something he's not? Otherwise, yeah, I think our D could be pretty good next year. Wasn't bad last year.

He is not fat enough to play DT.

As a 3-4 DE, he is not supposed to get around the corner, just collapse the pocket (which is perfect for him).

IMHO, Maybin is an OLB, not a DE.

  2. I'm usually negative about the Bills, because they are awful. However! I see a ray of light in the 3-4 if we can get Kennedy and draft a Fat NT.

    Here's my dream:

    ROLB Schobel

    LOLB Maybin

    MLB Mitchell

    MLB Poz

    DE Stroud

    DE Kennedy

    DT Fat Draftee (Cody?)

That set up could be killer. Seriously.

  3. See below...

This should help answer MadDog's question...

D-Ends in a 3-4 are 300lbs or close to it...Stroud is about 310, Johnson is around 285...Jimmy Kennedy is about 330.

Phil Hansen was 6'5 278lbs...Bruce Smith was 6'4 268...so yeah, I would say they were bigger than Schobel who is 6'4 243lbs and Kelsay who is 6'4 261.

Ted Washington was 6'5 375lbs and Pat Williams was 6'3 327lbs...yes they are big too, much more so than Stroud or any other DT we have on this football team. All our DE's are better for OLB's in a 3-4 and our DT's are better suited for DE's.

This makes me think if we could get a good DT either through free agency or draft, Stroud would be ideal for the DE position. With that added beef, I can't help but think we would be better off.

Imagine Kennedy and Stroud at DE, with a big fat DT in teh draft.

Schobel on one side at OLB, and Maybin on the other. It sounds intriguing.

  4. WTF? Another brain dead decision for this club. Butler retires. We have tomato cans at tackles. Wood is coming off a horrific injury- potentially career ending. We have 2 decent healthy lineman on the entire roster. And we do not tender Incogneto. Man it is tough to be a Bills fan.

I could not agree more. I hate this stuff. Unbelievable.

    Only in Buffalo.

  5. New Bills OL capable of keeping an NFL QB upright for more than 2 seconds per pass play (a HUGE upgrade from last year)

    OLT Brown

    OLG Simmons

    C Allen

ORG winner of Wood, Levitre, and everyone else

    ORT Saffold

Pardon me for not being excited, as I am still miffed at the way we released our entire O-line last year.

Last year was supposed to be the building year, now its this year.

Ugh. God I hope this ends someday.

  6. The way our front office handled certain personnel decisions in the recent past scared big name coaches away when it really counted.

I really can't blame Cower or Shannahan for not wanting to come to a place that won't provide the personnel tools they need to win.

Seriously, what would you say about a team that traded or released 3 of its 5 starting o linemen from the previous year, and released its Offensive Coordinator a week before the season.

That's what you do if you want to lose.

For the past decade this hasn't been a place where great careers go to flourish. Its where they go to get started...or ended for that matter.

  7. Roscoe Parrish is an amazing returner BUT an incredible liability. Cannot beleive he didn't get called for running after calling Fair Catch in the Jets game. It looked like every player on the field but him was waiting for the call from the official.

This kid has yet to learn the rules of returning punts/kicks, which are pretty simple. This kid is a moron and may forget to breathe at any time, he obviously needs CONSTANT reminders.

Get this guy a tutor. It could be anyone. A High School Art teacher or a customer service representative at Wells Fargo. Just someone with a heartbeat to talk to Roscoe about the rules EVERY day. Let him chill with the Kickers and sound it out word by word.

What a complete idiot waste of talent.

  8. This board drives me crazy thinking Maybin is a terrible player, and this will be the last post in defense of him. Name me one player at the DE position that has done a damn thing this entire season???? It takes time to develop for christs sake

    Brian Orakpo.

  9. The New Year is approaching ... what is your opinion on the ONE WORST Front Office move of this decade?

My pick .... Willis McGahee ... 2003 draft section #23. We passed on:Larry Johnson (#27), Dallas Clark (#24), Rashean Mathis (#39), Anquan Boldin (#54), Osi Umenyiora (#56), Lance Briggs (#68), Jason Witten (#69)

Ok. so hindsight is 20/20 and we didn't know these guys would be good... but did we really need a RB??? Travis Henry in the preceding year (2002) had 1,438 yards and 13 TDs...

in fact in 2003 (while Willis was on IR) Henry had:

    1,356 yards and 10 TDs.

Once Willis was in he struggled to do what Henry already had done ..

    2006 Buffalo Bills 990 yards 6TDs

    2005 Buffalo Bills 1,247 yards 5 TDs

    2004 Buffalo Bills 1,128 yards 13 TDs

So essentially, we gave up a 1st round pick... sat on him a year... and he gave us a little less than what we already had. I know there are probably worse ones out there... guys who didn't even make it as starters...but this one still burns me for some reason.

  10. How many large markets are there? They wouldn't move the team off the principle that the Bills are netting 3million a game, where a select few cities like Dallas or Boston can take away a little more than 5 times that. Secondly, you failed to mention that our Toronto deal places us right in the middle of the pack again.

If we go it will have absolutely NOTHING to do with ticket sales/prices. There aren't exactly 30 Dallas Cowboys.

Were you listening to the Dude's story Donnie?

Even a broke team like the Chefs would be better off facing a big market team with higher sales revenue because of the sharing.

Just because I love saying I told you so...

for everyone who said Walker was an Upgrade over Peters.... I told you so. (and you are a moron).

for everyone who said the O-Line was an upgrade over last year... I told you so. (and you don't know football).

for all the kool-aid drinkers about to argue with me about the o-line.... don't make me tell you so again.

Five weeks...... ZERO Rushing TD's kids. ZERO. argue with that.

    Long live Russ Brandon.

  12. So because Crowell got hurt playing for TB means he would have experienced the exact same injury (or any injury) if the Bills signed him? Really?? I think the original poster's point is valid.

    Thank you.

Many kool aid drinkers on this board quick to argue a logical fallacy in support of this team's front office. Why? I don't know.

Even if we kept Crowell and he did get hurt...would that not have been the better move? Sure, you could look back and argue his injury, but you can't know that at the time you make the move. You make moves based on info available at the time.

  13. Someone needs to tell Russ Brandon that you need depth to win in this league. Stop F@#%$# releasing/not resiging competent starters dumb@$$ !!!!!!!!!!!

I said when we didn't re-sign Crowell it was a bad move.

You need AT LEAST 3 starting linebackers to win in this league. By releasing Crowell, we started with 2 (ellison does not count).

As we saw this past week, it really sucks not having one starting LB. Way to go Russ. I hope he goes the way of Jaruon, or just quits in shame (because he should).

  14. As much as I like Stroud as a player, he's not going to be an important player when the Bills finally become good (assuming they ever do). The Chargers, for instance, are really desperate for a DT, and they're not the only ones. The Cowboys come to mind too. I know a first rounder would be difficult to get, but desperate teams sometimes resort to desperate measures. If the Bills end up with two first rounders (one a high pick, the other in the mid-20s), they might be able to move up further and draft a QB or sit tight and and land both a blue chip DT and an OT. (They do need to draft a QB early, however.)

It's really just a thought experiment, but this team is going nowhere, and they're going to have to build through the draft.

This would be classic bills. Take a guy who is a proven quantity in a position with zero depth and trade him for a baby faced turd who hasn't proven himself, will want more cash, and will play in a different position (i.e. leaving a hole at DT).

    not just no. Hell no.

  15. All this week people on this board and in WNY have been pretty down on the Buffalo Bills.

They should be. The Bills' implosion on Opening Night against New England, and their offensive ineptitude agains New Orleans and Miami have left fans with little to cheer about.

But Buffalonians, in my experience, are optomists. Maybe its being under 4 feet of snow for 6 months a year that makes them want to look on the bright side.

One thing is for sure, after the Bills beat Cleveland there will again be a buzz ... the maybe's ... the possiblies ... and the certainlies.

But Bills fans should not forget. They have a right to be angry. They were told Jason Peters could be replaced by Langston Walker, only to have Walker released days prior to the start of the season.

Despite having nine months of offseason, their team waited until days before the home opener to fire their offensive coordinator.

Bills fans were sold on having a chance, and certain people have been taking advantage of their optimism for too long.

  16. I just happened to be looking out of curiousity, and guys like Pat Williams, Jonas Jennings, Clements, Fletcher, Spikes, Crowel, Bledsoe, Greer ... were better than the current comparable guys. Henry/McGahee a good pair of backs, Moulds as effective as TO has been. And most of our few bright spots today were on that team too including Evans, McGee and Moorman.

    http://slam.canoe.ca/StatsFBP/BC-FBP-LGNS-BUFFALOROS-R.html

I'm not sure but was Antoine Winfield on that team too?

Anyways I totally agree. Its sad how close we were to having a reallly good team. We needed some help on our OL but most of the other pieces were there.

Seems like whenever we have just a couple of spots to fill we release/trade/don't resign people during the offseason and have more holes than we can fill at the beginning of the next season.

  17. I mean.......Chambers and Scott played some of the worst OT play I have EVER seen.....I counted the the times they DIDNT get beat rather then when they did becaus there was so few......

I am not high on Edwards any more....but NOBODY was going to look good with the protection he got......SIX sacks?

OK.....Peters was not going to stay fine.......but then you cut the other veteran OT, then Butler goes on IR, then Bell gets hurt.....

For christ sake.....Stop the insanity and either trade for or bring in a veteran OT who can start in a pinch and move to RT when Bell returns.

    is Runyon still out there?

I hear Philly has a competent LT. He has ups and downs, but he's competent. Maybe we could trade... like a late first and some change... nah, competent LT's are hard to find. They'd probably turn us down.
