So I got 12300? Cool.
And what happened to 12200-12299?
Me fail math? That's unpossible.

this is post 12199. The next post would be 12300 - but I still won.

Congratulations.

He has, I forgot when, but it's been at least a few years.
Yeah, after he fathered a son to a surrogate mother he came out saying he could not live in a world with lies.

Hey Salmon, so did you end up doing anything for your birthday?
Not my thread, but thanks guys.
Happy birthday!

more often than not it's the reporter making the calls to pry out information. on occasion, there are times when a person will call you to give you a heads up. it doesn't happen that often.
in some cases, there's word out there about something going on from a source who's considered somewhat reliable or someone with no direct knowledge of this information, as in the person got it second hand. that's where the reporter checks in with the people who are more directly involved in order to confirm or discredit what he's heard.
and the latter -- the discrediting of rumors -- happens more often than not.
also, reporters try to check in with people in the know on a weekly, monthly or (when things are breaking) daily basis. these conversations also lead to potential stories, either breaking or something down the road.

oh, and though i missed it, thanks for the cleanup.
i don't understand what you mean by half-truths. the two sides are "far apart" though somewhat ambiguous is an update to the fact that the two sides exchanged offers a week earlier. that both sides are far apart, is an indication that a deal isn't imminent.
i could have speculated in the story as to why, but that would lead to further speculation. a person familiar with discussions told me they're "far apart," and that's what i wrote.
the whole process is open to interpretation because talks are ongoing. and who knows.
but the fact that they're far apart isn't a good sign at this juncture, because they were far apart in December.
jw
Maybe some time when you feel comfortable you could run us through a process of how you broke - first to report a story. That's a whole different topic, though.
The thread is going full circle where I wantedit to lead. Your bait led us to the story then our speculation fed the trap which brings about the discussion that since December there has been no news. Which speculation says is not good news and why a Bills rep was willing to do some spin coverage putting a shadow on this story that could taint the viewpoint later on and remain a better favor in to the organization. But, that is all speculation...
It is interesting that prior I wondered if the media played the sources or sources played the media. Now I see it is not that at all. The media stokes the sources/organization which create the bait and follow up cloud of speculation, banter and heated discussions that show up on ESPN.

Thanks for the cleanup mods!
So a follow up question is why % of the time is the reporter making the first move or vice versa? Surely it would lack credibility upon many to find out that every day Jim Jimson calls the XYZ Team Name here for a story. And after this guy does how many crumbs are left on the table?
I guess my point is that so often during this time of year there are rampant reports of player Q going to team F that never unfold. Where does that crumb turn in to a snowball and when does it go away? First off, where do the crumbs come from?

I would be more than willing to lend a ear if you send me a case of wine. Cheaper than a nut doctor.
Pork loin is in the crock pot cooking. Wine and onion soup mix with cut up onion makes up the liquid.
Eh, just life but aparantly my communication is a bit weak right now. Manners never existed

Happy birthday to ya! Are you doing anything tonight to celebrate?

I am always intrigued by sources for news stories in the sports world. The latest info on Steve Johnson and the Bills being far apart on his contract has me wondering a few things.
Why do sources talk? If they are going to be anonymous what is the benefit of leaking the info at all? If it is an agent it can be for hype to get his player more attention and if it is a team it can be to say hey we really want to do XYZ. But, why does a team comment that contracts are not going well? What does it help? What is the posturing that happens with this info?
John, obviously I would never call you out. You are a known person in an unknown forum that has a profession which makes your opinion more valuable then others...at least often!
Regardless, I do not want you to risk anything in your career or sources by speaking about this. Thank you!

Apparently I am complaining a lot. I never complain, people who say I complain just do not know what they are talking about!

I wanted more out of Lampinelli, but looks like next week she'll liven up a bit.
She will. She has made fun of Clay Aiken a ton in the past, she makes fun of everyone which makes her amazing.

There are a lot of Howard Stern connections here; Takei, Corrola, Lamponelli, Snyder.

I can't believe guys like Drew Brees and Ray Rice are still unsigned.
Exactly my point - no teams know what to do this year. I expect some shake up in standings in the 2012 season.
The Patriots need WR's so bad that it is pathetic. However, they have so many holes on defense that they cannot commit to the WR position too quickly. Then you factor in their own FA's and they have a headache. Every team has a different variation.

Anybody know the area code for Phoenix, NY? Felicia Holland just posted her phone number on one of the threads.

The fact that they can be far apart shows me that, predictably, the price has gone up. It's unlikely the Bills went back to Johnson with the same offer he rejected during the season, because that would just be insulting and Johnson's agent probably would not have counter-offered.
The Bills have allowed Johnson to have all the leverage, and they now probably want a do-over on the original offer and are offering Johnson what he initially desired. Of course, Johnson has no financial incentive to take that offer. The fact that they couldn't lock up their young talent at a bargain rate means they have already messed this one up, no matter how things shake out. For the Bills to lose Johnson, it would be a colossal failure that will seriously alienate their fan base. It would reinforce the notion that they are a farm team for the rest of the league, the NFL equivalent of the Kansas City Royals.
With, as Sirius reported, 400 free agents hitting the market - well, he needs to be careful testing too much of the FA market...

Putting up fences today I have taken some time to think about it. I would like to see if Buffalo brings in any veteran LB's prior to the draft. That could shape a lot of things in April. We can use the veterans as backups if neccessary and use picks to draft needs over additions. Hmm. yeah, just not sure.

That's The AP story. Just filed an extended version with more details. Should be out shortly.
gotta run.

Thanks John, that there is why I always think of you for Buffalo news - your fingers are almost always on it.
Back to the subject, I have been listening to a lot of NFL with Stern being on vacation. They spoke a lot about Johnson, including Polian saying a receiver with 2-1,000 seasons back to back is worth signing but he is still an unpredictable player. He said Dwayne Bowe might have the most talent but is a risky player.
Oh, and some dude called up about dropping Brady and siging Manning because Manning is a beter QB and will have something to prove while Brady seems lost out there.
