I hate to break this to fans but Cook's drop problems are NOT easily fixable. He drops easy passes because he doesn't focus. This isn't a technique or physicality issue.  Rolling in a jugs will not solve this.  Obviously we're all rooting for him to improve the fumbles (4) and dropped tds (4). But it's only happening with a sense of mental focus.

We can agree to disagree on how easy it is to fix his 'wide open' pass drops. I'd rather have a guy who has soft hands and 'needs to focus' over a guy who isn't a good hand catcher of the ball to begin with.

I think his fumbles have mostly been from not protecting the ball well enough at the time of the tackle, and/or a second defender coming in with the punch-out while he gets wrapped up. That's as great a play by the well-coached defender as it is a bad play by the 'unfocused' ball carrier. I do think this can also be improved with coaching/experience over a length of time!

Players get better or worse, nothing is absolute!

    I like Cook a lot.

He had 1500 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns. That's a VERY good running back season in the 2024 NFL!

That's a Pro Bowl RB in his year 2!

And will be playing for relative peanuts for two more seasons!

Agree on keeping Ty Johnson around, a perfect RB3 "spell" guy to complement Cook's role. On a decent gain, you don't have to really change what play you'd call next if Cook should need to come out for a blow.

Cook's drops are an easier fix, as they are mostly concentration issues when he is wide open. I do think he has good, natural hands otherwise. Different from a guy like Dawson Knox and his seemingly 33% drop rate, which I believe boils down to just not having very good hands. Fights the ball too much. Not a natural set of mitts.

Since we’re on the subject, I always had an issue with the sabres using “Rock You Like a Hurricane” in their broadcasts and game day … Carolina Hurricanes anyone?

I had way more of an issue with the late 80s LaFontaine era Sabres embracing the Jefferson Starship banger "We Built This City on Rock-n-Roll!" 😂

(complete with the 80s-ish non-rock-n-roll sounding synthesizer noises)

Plus, Jack White is a huge fan of Gordie Johnson & Big Sugar, which makes him somehow even cooler than I already thought he was

This is why they pay Greg Cosell the big bucks.

I love Cosell, but in this case, he's only giving his bosses what they want/what he's paid to do.

The "numbering" of receivers is nothing more than a way for the Average Joe to sort things in his head.  There's outside receivers and slot receivers, & some teams have (plays drawn up for) guys like Deebo who can move among the positions.  And some guys are just best suited outside, like a George Pickens - we know he doesn't want to be involved in blocking any more than he has to.  As opposed to a Gabe Davis, who relishes battling with DBs in the run game if that is what's called for.

Back to the point, Diggs could probably be one of the best slot receivers in the game, starting next season, but has thus far been used mostly on the outside (until Brady started to draw up some bubble screens and handoffs to help get the ball in his hands).

I am not sure what the hell they'll do, as FA Davis is also an enigma to the Average Joe (he's not a true #2, he's more of a #3) but was voted a team captain by his peers and may not be highly sought after.

For the first time, I wore my Bills PJ bottoms with my Josh Jersey. Also, I must confess that I had my Bills Boxers on as well.

    Crap!

wait, you altered the chicken wing sauce!?!?!?

I'll say it again - articles like these are required when a head coach is not getting the job done and an article comes out with sources close to Pegula saying there's no chance he gets fired after the season.

If falling short on the field ("game management, decision making, whether some of the core principles of his defense are really sustainable under the modern salary cap") isn't going to result in changes then we have to go a different route.

Maybe Pegula is now getting the message. We're not going to allow Josh Allen to play his career here in Buffalo without lifting the Lombardi Trophy.

Agree 100%.  When Graham's article came out saying Sean is basically safe, I accepted it and even expected/agreed with it based on what Sean has done since his arrival.  But if the points exposed in this article about McD don't bother you as a Bills fan, your head is buried in the sand like an ostrich.

Dunne's expose has served to hit me over the head... We are likely only going so far under Sean, & all signs to this point say we may have already gone as far as we can with him.  We basically need to win out to sneak into the playoffs.

And via Hard Knocks, although he is extremely aloof, you can easily see what McDaniel has going on down in Miami... there's little doubt he trusts the talents of his players to enable them to go out & make plays.  Kind of like what Daboll had fostered with Josh while his tutor/OC.

We should all agree, we need to do whatever is necessary to allow Josh to flourish while we have him here in his prime.  Joe Brady has been like a glob of Flex Seal so far, so we shall see what they do from here and/or how they respond to what has been at best a very unsettling bye week!

Trust the process reporting & your own two eyes!

Gabe has dropped so many balls this year that it is now the EXPECTATION that he drop the ball, in my mind.

Yep, after being clutch & barely ever dropping a ball in his first two years, and his playoff performance against KC last year, I have no idea why Davis even still sees the field! 🙄  He dropped maybe 3 or 4 this year by unofficial count... what is McDermott even doing? 🙄

By that logic, we'd have absolutely zero at tight end, because Dawson Knox would have long ago been jettisoned.  And I don't know if you've ever coached anything before, but believe it or not, players tend to respond very well when their coach actually has their back and believes in them a little.

Josh Allen is so good the team should win multiple super bowls with him and the fact is McD single handedly cost us 1 last year with the worst coaching choke job in the history of the league -- worse than Pete Carroll not running at the goal line.

Nice try, but "13 seconds" isn't even close to Seattle's goal line pick IN THE SUPER BOWL or even Atlanta being up 28-3 on Brady IN THE SUPERBOWL. Our poor tackling on defense & Scotty's 47 yard miss with the laces facing holder Frank Reich IN THE SUPERBOWL also qualify.

  9. 4 hours ago, The Red King said:

Davis had the ball hit him.  He didn't catch it.  The ball was free.  So...that did happen.   It was a (coaching) mistake to put him out there.

You also ducked the question.  Let me make it easier.  Do you think McD made a mistake putting a guy that regularly drops the ball out on his hands-team.  Yes or no.  You even get the benefit of hindsight on this one.

So with the benefit of hindsight, Gabe dropped a catchable ball earlier, so therefore you believe that McDermott made a coaching blunder by not yanking Davis off of the hands team mid-game, which Gabe has presumably been on all season... got it.  Just throw someone in there who hasn't even practiced it as much.  Good plan.

Who exactly do you suggest we put on our hands team?  It's usually your WRs and TEs and others with good hands, right?  So in your mind, if anyone drops a ball in the game, the HC is supposed to go tell the ST Coordinator to pull him immediately from the hands team?  That's idiotic, and that's why McDermott didn't do that.

Now in the case of an Isaiah McKenzie, who messed up enough returning punts to fritter away all confidence in his reliability as a returner... he hasn't been back there since.  So McDermott does do the right thing when it is warranted.  Go Bills!

I'll bite.  This team no longer makes halftime adjustments at all, continuing to get torched by the same thing.  Defense is particularly bad for this.  Detroit shredded our bend but don't break D, and we changed nothing.

Offensively, Dorsey has been figured out, yet he refuses to adapt.  Be honest, how many offensive plays were you able to predict Thursday?  "Here comes a run."  If the screen keeps failing miserably, stop calling it!

The coaching is doing just enough to win, but a lot of it is our roster simply being just that good, even with injuries.

I'll also bite.  Does Frazier and his supposed "bend but don't break" defense get any credit for adjusting & throttling Nick Chubb last Sunday?  Chubb started out gashing us, then he really didn't do much in the 2nd half.  We kept kicking field goals, but the defense also kept stopping that Cleveland ground and pound as well.

And Dorsey has now officially "been figured out"!?!?  Wouldn't that mean that Josh also has been figured out too?  Yet Josh & Diggs have made the clutch plays we needed in the last week to garner us two nice road W's, however expected they were by the Vegas line.

All I have ever wanted out of my coaches is to do just enough to win.  Enjoy the ride, it can get bumpy from time to time, but nobody ever said it was going to be easy.  Go Bills!

Just cause one says McDs post locker room speeches all seem the same doesn’t mean anything but his speeches seem the same.

Ive been a fan for nearly 35 years. Josh Allen is my favorite Bills player ever. Mainly cause we were born and raised in the area. Lol to ask people to have zero opinion and kneel for our savior sounds a little crazy. I’m just simply pointing out McDs post game speeches don’t fire me up obviously as much as everyone else and simply stated they all feel the same.

That has nothing to do with being spoiled. And we should have beat the Jets and Jacksonville…. KC fans would feel the same way if they lost to those 2 teams. But Andy Reid and Mahomes would be hard pressed to lose games like that. Why is that? Just curious what you think why that is….. be careful what you say or your response cause you may be called spoiled and told to stfu.

    Stay humble and hungry ok!

You can have your opinion, I just disagree with you.  What exactly do you mean when you say Andy Reid and Mahomes would be hard pressed to lose games like that?   We should win every road game?  KC lost to Indy on the road in week 3 this year, doesn't that count as one?

My point in calling McDermott our savior is because that's exactly what he is for this franchise.  This whole Bills turnaround has happened because he was hired.  He then brought along Beane & cleaned house in the scouting department.  Defensively, they improved immediately under his influence, and the dynamic duo then did their due diligence & secured our QB position for the foreseeable future with #17, who is what every NFL team hopes to one day find.  It wasn't luck, they trusted their process.  You seem to find phrases like that & "stay humble & hungry" corny and/or trite, and that's ok.

But McDermott is the one who actually changed the culture here.  And that is so easy to talk about, but so difficult to do.  Every coach everywhere talks about changing the culture when they are hired.  Few actually do.  From Gregg 'airhorn' Williams to Dick Jauron to Doug Marrone to Sexy Rexy... all of them tried to do it, none of them succeeded.  McDermott did it, hackneyed phrases and all.

In those post-game speeches, it's also very easy to see that players love to play for him/would run through a wall for him.  McDermott is a true servant leader, he does whatever is necessary to help each and every guy become the best version of themselves.  Including picking them up in his Silverado if necessary when they are buried in OP snow.  Sounds hokey, but it has worked for us.  To the point where a free agent like Von Miller actually chooses to come here.  Go Bills!

You presume much; "...waiting for this kind of team since the Super Bowl Years!" I, and others like me, and so many who shuffled off of this mortal coil, have been and were, respectively, waiting for a Champion since January 1, 1967. The "Super Bowl years teams" were exactly like this team (to date): they didn't win the big one, despite the ballyhoo and bravado of " where would you rather be than right here, right now". I reserve the right to dissent when I see deficiencies on the field, schematically, execution and otherwise. If you want to disagree, that's okay, but don't tell other fans with whom you disagree "stfu".

I respect your seniority & opinion.  The stfu part was more directed at those that somehow now expect this team to waltz through the schedule and go 17-0 while covering every week since Vegas had us as the favorites - it's just not realistic.  As Dick Jauron would say, it's hard to win in this league!

Most are yep.  But this one today was different for sure. You could tell he went through all sorts of highs and lows today.  And his little sideline interview in the 1st half he sounded very frustrated. An emotional day for McD.

To me, he was just very locked in on being a very good NFL head coach & did his civic duty by being interviewed in the first half for the NFL & TV overlords.

The truth is, many Bills fans are now WAY TOO SPOILED by our recent successes.  McD's post-game victory speeches do nothing for me. 🙄  The wins are not dominant enough for my liking. 🙄  Something is off with Josh, he's regressing! 🙄  And can you believe we lost to the Jets?! 🙄  And c'mon, what about that Jacksonville game last year?!!? 🙄

Y'all need to just stfu & fully embrace McDermott as our organizational savior & continue to Trust the Process!!!!

Or do us all a favor & gtf off the bandwagon.

    SIncerely,

Bills football enthusiasts who have been waiting for this kind of team since the SB years!

Starring Don Knotts as the embattled Head Coach,

Ed Asner as the curmudgeon GM ready to fire him,

& even Dick Butkus shows off his acting chops!

Tim Conway is also in the cast..

OK now I know you're trolling me.  Even if his leg is 'generational', his lack of hang time sucks for the NFL and is still a legitimate concern.

You'd have a better point if he played almost any other position.  Or if he were a Yugoslavian mule named Gus who could kick 100 yard field goals. 😄

Laughable that the release of Haack should somehow make them pot-committed to Araiza's success or demise.

Haack is a marginal-at-best NFL punter, and that's why Araiza was drafted in the first place!

And with your poor golf analogy, you're trying to say McDermott & Beane should go all-in on the 'punt god' who might also be Bill Cosby Jr. because they already cut Haack.  That's absurd. 👎

Bills need to stay the course.  Don't cut.  They are committed. If he will work in the NFL... Bills took all the damage.   Not much more can happen to them now.  Get him ready for opening day and press on.  It's a civil case.  Unless it goes criminal, which seems odd it would go back that way, then cut.

Bills paid the down payment on his talent.

Not much more can happen? Are you kidding?  I guarantee you McDermott is interested in having as few as possible additional pressers answering questions about this situation.  In fact, it'll probably be Beane who steps out today and explains why they are moving on, and rightfully so.

There are definitely sliding scales of justice in football, at almost all levels.  But a talented rookie punter is still basically a dime a dozen.

If jettisoned, I suppose there is a chance that Araiza could come back on another team and make the Bills regret cutting him, but that seems quite unlikely even if he turns out to be Ray Guy 2.0.  But doubling down on his talent at this point does not really seem to fit in with the DNA and culture of this very well run organization under the leadership of McDermott & Beane.
