  1. Maybe because the media overlooks boxing completely. Maybe because boxing is notorious for attacking rants.

Why aren't you complaining about his attack on midgets?

I'm not complaining about any attack. I couldn't care less about what floyd had to say. I'm just asking the question, why it isn't even being discussed. Given the general sensitivity towards racial slurs, it should be a slam dunk.

Boxing is indeed overlooked by the media but not when it comes to its few mega stars. Floyd and Manny are by far its two biggest stars and their ongoing situatuion has been covered heavily. These two guys have both had major exposure and are considerably famous.

    NSFW

Why does his racist antics get overlooked by the media? This isn't the first time he has recorded himself making racial slurs and homophobic comments.

I'm not offended by his comments as much as I'm offended by the double standard. Comments and idiot banter aren't worth getting worked up for IMO, but consistency would be nice.

My complaint is with the free pass from the media and such. People have been ripped for much less, even careers ruined.

Would this be covered differently if it was Phil Mickelson making a video and calling Anthony Kim a gook and faggot?

  3. Minor league manager loses his temper. His first base antics are a classic.

    you're outta here!

It's an entertaining clip but seems scripted. It reminds me of that other minor league manager throwing fake grenades and low crawling around the infield. Many of these minor league clubs will do whatever it takes to entertain and sell tickets. In the end it's still entertainment and thats the name of the game.

IMO, nothing beats the real deal though. That Elia clip that exiled shared is HOF meltdown worthy. That sound byte has been played many times but it never gets old. Its genuine disgust and anger that is most entertaining. A special character with such a beautiful grasp on profanity only comes along every so often.

  4. Aside from the stripper parties and millions of dollars, I kind of feel bad for Maybin. I think he is a player that wants to be really good but it's not translating for him. I've already given up on hopes of him being a real playmaker. At this point i'd be really pleased if he became a decent contributor.

  5. Dunkin Donuts Curse.

As you approach a DD for a quick cup, an obnoxious number of cars seem to always come from different directions and beat you to the spot. The move is to then go inside because you only see a couple customers on foot. Only to find that the DD as assigned one employee to the in-store customers and a small army to the drive-thru. You're left waiting in line and watching the cars that were ahead of you go on their merry way.

Of course, if you stick to the drive thru line, you can be assured that someone is ordering 3 dozen donuts with specific numbers and varying lattes. Its a no win but that stuff has crack in it or something, so I wait.

  6. Wow! Throwing money at the children's Mothers makes him responsible? You're assuming that the Mothers are all upstanding human beings who can handle an influx of 100K per child. I would assume that these "baby's mommas" are nothing more than road meat seeing that they are from 5 different states. Either that or Cromartie has Sky miles that the President would envy!

I get it, mistakes happen. But when he started to have more children per season that INT's how responsible was he being then? Misguided beyond belief bro.

But but but but he's a PROVIDER! :worthy: Cromartie has had a far greater negative impact on his children, than positive. Lets call him responsible though because he is paying his mandatory child support. Way to go Antonio!

  7. Meh, he was an a-hole when he was with the Red Sox and, by definition, an even bigger a-hole when he was a Yankee.

(Don't think he was juicin', tho, while he was in Boston and Toronto.)

Gotta disagree. Clemens began juicin' in a Blue Jay uniform. The rest is pretty accurate though.

  8. Looks like those of us who guessed gang-bangers were right. From today's buff news:

    The story

Killed were Danyell Mackin, 30; Tiffany Wilhite, 32; Shawn-Tia McNeil, 27; and Willie McCaa III, 26. Wounded were Demario Vass, 30; James Robbs Jr., 27; Shamar Davis, 30; and Tillman Ward, 27. Vass remained hospitalized late Tuesday in critical condition.

At least three of the individuals who were shot had been shot or targeted before, and one of them had a brother who was violently tortured and murdered, police said.

Ward, who was shot in the elbow and is recovering, also was shot last Nov. 23 with his cousin Francois Mitchell, 25, when someone opened fire on them in a parking lot on Walden Avenue.

Ward's brother, Rome Ward, 21, was murdered in 2007. Police found his body -- bearing signs of torture and dismemberment -- about a month after he was kidnapped.

And in March of this year, another cousin of Ward's -- Dontae Coble, 16 -- was charged with murder. Homicide detectives accused Coble of fatally stabbing Daniel Smalls, 18, on Feb. 13 outside a house party on Genesee Street.

Wilhite, according to a 2007 police report, told police a man fired several shots at her late on Dec. 23, 2007, at Broadway and Mills Street but missed, striking a nearby vehicle.

McCaa, who was killed in Saturday morning's attack, survived a shooting on March 31, 2008, in which he was shot in the groin as he left a store at Bailey and Kermit avenues.

McCaa was facing some trouble with the law at the time of his death. According to Sedita, McCaa was scheduled to go to trial on a felony robbery charge this week in State Supreme Court.

What a joke. Sounds like a small victory for society.

  9. I wouldn't worry about things said by a couple of overpaid blacks that can barely read or write. Ditka lucked out with the Bears back in the day. Look what he did with the Aints when he ran them. He's about a sausage & a half away from a massive coronary anyhow! Tom Jackson never won anything either, & has fallen into obscurity since ESPN changed the format of their NFL programmming

Get in as many posts as you can dude. You're not long for the board.

  10. Seminoles isn't derogatory because it's the name of a tribe. Redskins IS derogatory because it's the rough equivalent of Negroes. If there were a team named the Negroes, would you argue that black people shouldn't feel offended because they are now "synonymous with football"?

I am all for changing the name,if it is offensive to people. I'm still holding out for a day where the acknowledgement of skin tones is not offensive though. In a world that is full of offensive things, why we spend so much time focusing on skin color is beyond me.

Besides the most offensive skin tone is probably my pasty white complexion.

  11. The problem with this thread is some interpret it as best physical skills and some view it as what they did against their peers. Face it, the modern athlete is beyond anything that came before, so the present has an advantage. However, you can really only judge an athlete against his peers, because his/her peers should be the best at what they do at the time. Using that criteria, Babe Ruth was far beyond his peers. And this may be in any sport.

Personally, putting Bonds in the conversation is a joke. There are players who were not drug enhanced that had great careers that would serve as better examples. Griffey would be a modern one. But if I was to make an argument against Ruth, the player that comes next would be Ted Williams.

Football wise, I would have thought Barry Sanders deserves consideration. Yes I know not great stats. But what running back had a career as good playing with a team that bad. IMO, put him on the Bills instead of OJ and he gains 20 to 50% more yards.

If you consider track and field, Jim Thorpe and Jesse Owens were far ahead of their competition. Both all time great athletes. Put them in modern competition, and they don't even get invited. Certainly doesn't diminish what they accomplished.

Agreed. Willie Mays belongs in every all-time discussion as well.

  12. Level of competition, for one. Ruth played when blacks played in the Negro league. Arguably he never faced some the best baseball players of his age.

Also, I believe ground rule doubles counted as home runs when Ruth played.

Ruth didn't bat against an assortment of fresh relief pitchers.

Need any more reasons why SOME people might thing he wasn't the best player ever?

    1. Level of competition? Baseball in the 20s was made up of 16 teams, as compared to 30 teams in the modern era. We all agree that a number of great negro league players would have flourished if given the chance but it doesn't make your argument true. The modern era has created a slightly watered down product, especially in terms of pitching.

    2. I've never heard of that ground rule double fun fact. Thanks for bringing it up, I like that kind of stuff. I don't think you can make a case with it against the Babe though. How many ground rule doubles off of 1920s grass fields do you honestly think he racked up?

    3. Ruth didn't bat against an assortment of relief pitchers but he played in an era DOMINATED by pitching. An era in which he hit more HRs than some teams. Pitchers threw from a more elevated position and threw just as hard as they do today. Today the mound is dropped, the pitching staffs are thin, and players/baseballs are juiced.

The best way to grade all-time players is to look at what they did compared to others of their era. Nobody dominated like the Babe did.

  13. You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac Eldorado convertible, hot pink, with whale skin hubcaps and all leather cow interior and big brown baby seal eyes for headlights. Yeah! And I'm gonna drive around in that baby at 115 miles an hour, getting 1 mile per gallon, sucking down quarter pounder cheeseburgers from McDonald's in the old-fashioned non- biodegradable Styrofoam containers! And when I'm done suckin' down those grease ball burgers I'm gonna wipe my mouth on the American flag and then toss the Styrofoam containers right out the side....

....and there ain't a God-damned thing you can do about it.

Because we got the BOMBS OKAAAY!

  14. Maybe coincidence, but his fall has all of the classic symptoms of someone who has stopped using PEDs.

I personally believe that PEDs are likely to have been in Tigers past. Whether it was used for rehab or general conditioning, his association with known dealers/doctors is too hard to overlook.

I do however, believe that his poor play is less attributed to PEDs and more likely the cause of mental instability. The guy isn't lacking power of any sort. He's just spraying the ball all over the course. His demeanor and body language is that of a guy who is lacking confidence. Bizarre given who he has been his whole career. Perhaps PEDs play a role in lack of confidence? Its possible I suppose, but in the end whether he believes it or not he still has all the physical tools but is lacking that mental edge.

To make matters worse for Tiger, the PGA is seeing a changing of the guard so to speak. A whole generation of young talented players are coming into their own. They grew up admiring Tiger but on the course they don't have that fear of him. It used to be that when Tiger made his move on Sundays, the rest of the leader board fell apart with fear and pressure. These young guys don't seem to rattle as easily. They certainly respect Tiger and Phil but they have seen that type of top notch ability before.

Tiger intimidated when he was younger, mainly because he was doing things nobody had seen. In a way he raised everyones game to new levels. Especially the young guys who grew up watching him. A little bit of a rant but thats how I see it. Tiger is trying to regain his mental edge against a field he can't entirely intimidate anymore. It's going to be very interesting to see if he can.

For the record, I'm still not betting against him.
