  1. Anybody that follows the Bills closely knows that Tyrod has not progressed over three years.  Statistics lie.  He is an amazing athlete and classy individual who keeps plays alive but is woefully inaccurate.  It was painful watching the same old problems last weekend, hanging the D out to wear down.

Peterman is poised, athletic, and accurate.  I was amazed in the pre-season.  I see the upside.

  2. This is the pussification of America.  It started with fun helmets for kids.  Do we really think that football is the only sport that causes CTE.  Not hockey, wrestling, rugby, nascar or any sport that causes excessive brain sloshing.

The fact that ANY parent would deny their children the sheer joy of football on the basis of the improbability of their kids and CTE is causing a nation of p**sies.  Ever since I was a baby I had a natural tendency towards smashing into things, especially other boys.

  3. This point could be made all day long...Kenny Davis was basically a back up RB and he's on the Wall. Same for Frank Reich and he lost a lot of games for us...he's up there. So Orton was our starting field general, brought us a winning season in the midst of a post season famine, yet he is deprived his rightful place in Bills football lore simply because he "slid his best" to get a first down? Sometimes sacrificing your body isn't enough I guess.

NEITHER Kenny Davis nor Frank Reich is a member of the Wall of Fame. PROOF POSITIVE THIS IS A JOKE THREAD!
  4. Not to be derailed...this thread is about Reggie McKenzie, and Reggie McKenzie joining Joe on the Wall. I think Rico was just being Rico, stirring the pot while agreeing.

The fact that people ASSUMED Reggie was already up there speaks to the urgency of getting this done, before people forget his worth and he gets crowded out by newer additions.

  5. Thank you for all the positive responses...I really would like to gain momentum.

I have no truck with Joe D at all. I think his place on the Wall is well deserved, and he's a happy rewarded Bill.

I have always held onto the pride I felt when 'Old Man Reggie' was in his last years and would come sidling up to the line to block with amazing effectiveness for Joe Cribbs and Roland Hooks, just as he had for OJ and my hero Jim Braxton 8 or 10 years earlier.

He was a real asset to the Bills for so long...I remember how everyone looked up to him as a leader from'73 forward.

  6. Watching old highlights, I remain convinced that because of his effectiveness, longevity, and iconic status as a Bill, Reggie McKenzie belongs on the Wall of Fame. Please remember how hard he charged every play well into the 80's, for bad teams. This guy left it on the field every down. I really believe it would mean the world to him. He was as much an icon of this team for hard work as Darryl Talley, ask Darryl Talley. When he came into the league, who did everyone on the team look to as the leader.

  7. I usually try not to be overly sensitive here but this is beyond appalling. I know many of these people and they have wives and kids. They are good people. It's part of the business but to celebrate them losing their jobs is disgusting. These are guys that have to go home and tell their spouses that they no longer have a job. They aren't rich by any means and did their best to improve the team. There were hits and there were misses. It is a part of the business but an awful part (not one to be celebrated). Stay classy

I agree Kirby. I must say, I always respected Jim Monos, and hoped he would be retained. I'd like to say thanks for the service and effort to Doug Whaley, too.

  8. I could see us re-signing him in a couple of Months or so. Makes complete sense to cut him now and see who else you can get. If we weren't able to shore the position up completely - we can bring him back at a reduced salary.

I hope so. He has great smarts and is a locker room asset. I love having a local kid on the roster. In 2016 he appeared in all 16 games, notching 87 tackles, one sack, nine pass breakups and one interception. He graded out as Pro Football Focus’ No. 37-ranked safety. That is not bad, but expensive... so hopefully he returns.

  9. In answer to questions and comments:

-I would use him in substitution at OLB (smart and adaptable), but primarily as a special teams beast. With a year or two, experience, and bulk he could be a solid Ray Bentley (even wears a mullet) or stellar Conlan type.

-I post it here as a way to get on radar and generate discussion. I'm sure SOMEONE at OBD tracks these threads. I will also post on the official site.

-He is projected in the 3-4th rounds. He is already on the Packers radar, so I'd grab him in the 3rd.

-He missed two mid October games with the foot injury. 8 tackles in season finale for "Paul Bunyan's Axe" against Minnesota 8 tackles in Big 10 Championship Game. 5 tackles and a sack in Cotton Bowl. So he finished the season super strong, and plays well in weather.

I live in Madison, and have tracked this guy all year. Thanks for your consideration.

  10. This guy keeps coming, never gives up and would be a perfect Bill. "Voted team captain. Known for intensity and all-out love for the sport. Instinctive. Diagnoses zone blocks quickly and darts through gaps into backfield to muddy backside cutback lanes. Works to keep outside shoulder uncovered for contain responsibilities against the run. Emotional leader for the Badgers. Wrap-up tackler looking to thud"

  11. After reading many well considered opinions...I say, with some reluctance, let Tyrod go to free up cap money to keep as many of out FA's as possible. If he reduces his price substantially, keep him.

I am quite sure that Cardale has all the tools, including the confidence and the game not being too big for him. Also lost in all the analysis I have read here, THAT YOUNG MAN IS GOING TO BE DURABLE. Witness some of the sacks and pounding he took, he bounced up and was joking with the Jets (same in pre-season). Frankly, mentally, confidence wise I see a young Jim Kelly. Physically I see Big Ben.

  12. I agree with your assessments, mostly, although I disagree that players don't want to be here. Glamour hounds obviously don't. I think, given Gilmour's unwillingness to wrap up on his tackles, that he is NOT worth the top dollars he is asking for. I just thought the dynamic at the Pro Bowl was interesting and potentially telling. Thanks for putting up with my 'newbie-ish' post.

  13. It was interesting to note that in all the coverage of the Pro Bowl on the Bills Official site, that Gilmore was not a part of the group. The other 4 guys were always grouped and a unit unto themselves, kind of pal-ling around and generally acting like teammates. I doubt if it was a conscious decision by the powers that be , but rather that Gilmore just didn't want to hang with his teammates. Does this portend his willingness to rejoin the team?

  14. I finally had time to watch the Whaley press conference. I've also read half the threads here about it. ..and all I have to say is.. Holy crap!!

Talk about much ado about nothing! First of all, Whaley did a great job! He clearly had several talking points the PR people wanted him to stick to... And he did. I'm focused on winning. I was not privy to that conversation. The ownership issued a statement. Etc. etc. he stayed on point and gave the press zero additional bait. So what do they all do... Begin the spin and speculation because that's all they have.

Could/should he have been more candid and discussed the inner workings and conversations? Maybe. Maybe that would have altered all this specualtion about ownerships involvement, Russ' involvement, the FO structure, etc. But, clearly, the owners and Whaley don't want that information out there and that's that. So he stone walled the press. But, of course, they still have papers to sell (or clicks to get), so they're gonna write something!

But, a few points.... Whaley seemed more confident than I've ever seen him. For the first time it seems he's actually making the decisions and it's not a committee decision. We have a "football guy" running the show. Maybe he sucks. I suppose we'll find out. But, it's all on him for the first time ever, it seems.

Also... What's with all the Tyrod specualtion? He clearly said... If the Bills were still in the hunt, Tyrod would have started. Period. The decision to sit him and look at EJ, was clearly a business decision. They had one game left to decide if EJ had progressed enough to stay on the roster as a backup. That's it, IMO. Why leaveTyrod in a meaningless game, risk injury and still not have an idea how far EJ had prgogressed?

Yeah... People are definitely projecting past dysfunction on the current situation. I get it. It's easy. It's fun. It drives readership. But, let's see how Whaley does. This offseason is the make or break time for him.

This is a great lucid post...thank you!
