  1. Rivalries are not exclusive to teams that are "winners." Winners are just given more air-time on ESPN. Think Army-Navy is not a rivalry, just because Army has stunk up the joint for, oh, the last decade? And I think OSU-Mich will always be a "rivalry" regardless of won-loss records....just ask people in Columbus and Ann Arbor.

I still fail to comprehend the young lad's assertions that 80% of those watching NFL games are between the ages of 15-30. I'd like to see some citation there....and that moving to the AFC North will somehow instill an instant rivalry with the Browns and Steelers. You think those in Cleveland and Pittsburgh are clamoring for the addition of Buffalo in the division? Me thinks not, but that's only my opinion.

Ned, rivalries are exclusive to winners and losers. If one team is good and winning all the time and the other team is bad and losing all the the time there is no rivalry. And that rivalry loses its luster when both teams suck for a decade. And as far ESPN goes where do u think people get most of their sports exposure??? If it werent for ESPN there would be virtually no coverage of any sports. Does anyone execpt the alumni and current students really care about Army-Navy (except that over 30 crowd)??? Didn't think so...But when the Yanks and Sox, Duke and UNC and Michigan - Ohio State are on they get some the biggest ratings of the year...Why because people care about teams that havent sucked for extended periods of time.

  2. Spot on . . .

For all of u people who still think this rivalry is "the rivalry" u are just proving my point for me...no one is mentioning what has happened in the recent past. All everyone is bringing up is the 70's...Nobody but people over the age of 30 care and 80 percent of the people watching the games are between the ages of 15-30. And as for the argument that rivalries tend to come and go...really??? Red Sox - Yankees, Duke - UNC, Michigan (who sucks this year) - Ohio State...When is the last time that these rivalries didnt mean anything or took some time off...hmmmm NEVER...im sorry the bills - phins is not the same and its time to start up with the steelers and browns and bengals

  3. What is the deal with "WAR" among Rome callers? WAR should never be used to mean anything good, and Rome should know that. War isn't always the worst thing, but it is never a good thing.

"I HAVENT BEEN LISTENING TO U ALL THAT LONG BUT UH I CANT BELIEVE YOURE TALKING ABOUT THIS "WAR" STUFF...U KNOW THEY FIGHT TO THE DEATH...THEY DONT JUST FIGHT...DONT U THINK THATS DISGUITING FOR KIDS TO SEE...THATS NOT HELPING KIDS "DEAN"...ITS HURTING 'EM MAN AND U SHOULDNT BE TALKING ABOUT IT ON THIS BLOG

  4. It depends on what the definition of the word "IS" is...

Look, rivalries are about tradition and history, with a bit of demographics thrown in...It's more than rooting against the Fish, it's rooting against the whole Miami lifestyle...South Beach, art deco and stone crabs cause me just as much angst as Marino, Csonka, and Cox.

I'm sorry if my "living in the past" does not live up to your standards of fandom. You're saying that the Bills-Fish rivalry is "not the same anymore," when you have no sense of what the rivalry actually "IS."

I know you're the target audience for the NFL...it's proven in the ads I'm force-fed every Sunday. But like many who have already responded, I have to add, that to declare the Buffalo-Miami rivalry dead is pure nonsense.

Come on Ned...dont be that guy...it seems as though i was right...the majority of people saying the rivalry is not the same are the "ol timers" who miss larry czonka, bob griese and the 70's...Honostley who gives a crap about the o fer the 70's...i care about NOW the IS and the FUTURE. i would absolutely love to see the bills play the steelers and browns twice a year with a game with miami every few years...sorta like we have with jacksonville now...There is no rivalry when both teams suck for 10 years...the pat and colts have taken that over and now i am hoping that it is out time to shine for now and then next 10 years...and im sorry if it is going to be out time its not going to be with a Bill-Dolphins rivalry

  5. I still hate the phins...even if they have been stinky for a few years now! All you youngsters gotta look back at time when the Don ruled the division! The Bills never won a game during the 1970's against Shula. Finally in 1980 the bills beat the phins after 10 years of losing !!! Chuck Knox coached that team, also the fans tore the goal posts down to celebrate that victory!

Moving the Bills away from the Dolphins,Jets, patriots would be a huge mistake. Mr.Ralph Wilson fought hard to keep the bills in the East and I for one am darn happy he did! I savor every win against our division foes. Even if we have a losing season it makes my year if we beat the Dolphins 2xhttp://www.stadiumwall.com/style_emoticons/default/worthy.gif

I still believe most of you are missing the point. I didnt say there wasnt a rivalry. I said the rivalry isnt the same. Even some of the players admit there is nothing special about this game ANYMORE (their used to be). Stop living in the past people and start living in the IS. I would have to agree and say i HATE the Pats more than any other team.

  6. For some of us Bills fans, it will always be THE rivalry. Period.

    0 for the 1970s

i agree for you "old timers" it's a great rivalry. But you have to stop living in the past and start living in the is. The younger generation who doesnt view it as a big rivalry anymore is the driving force of the league. The 15-30 fan base is not capture by the rivalry. if we were to re-align into a division with steelers, browns and bengals it would intensify everything from leading up to the game, the tailgaiting and the game itself. it would make things so much more interesting

  7. i was listening to the howard simon show this mourning and they suggested that when the league re-aligned in '02 we should have been in a division with the steelers, browns and bengals. The more i think about that the more i think of how awesome that would be. The bills, browns and steelers have some of the most passionate and loyal fan bases and playing them 2x a year would be great

  8. "Dallas is full of cokeheads and debutants...half of whom play for the Cowboys."

    -Hank Hill

or guys that stab their teamated in the neck with a pair of scissors over a haircut...or guys that get caught in a hotel room with prostitutes and grams of cocaine and proclaim "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM"...cough michael irvin cough

  9. Ya know, polls are just a fancy way of systematically predicting what's gonna happen...

Ladies and Gentlemen, that is a new track record. As it stands now, Jean Girard is sitting on the pole, which is a statement of fact, and is in no way a comment on the driver's sexual orientation

  10. i know we missed mcgee because leodis was just absolutely abused all day...but did anyone really miss melvin fowler??? i acutually think preston may be better for the long run...i know it dumb to say we didnt miss schobel because we are a better defense with him but we seemed to get by just fine with him out last week

  11. that whole argument seems so retarded to me....what is there to do in any other city that there isnt in buffalo? other than watch a pro basketball game and.....well thats all i can think of right now

you have to take into account where people are coming from such as trent from no cal...he said he had to get adjusted to the weather (what a surprise that buffalo weather was mentioned on a nationally syndicated show) or even the p.o.s willis mcgahee being from miami...of course there is going to be more to do in miami and san jose than buffalo but the people that live here know whats up (bills, sabres and drinking heavily) and what a great place it is to live

  12. True, and I think I'm changing my tune. Your point is well taken, so is Kas's point that we are the lowest rated 5-1 team. That needed to sink in a bit.

I'm going to go even further; how much do you think they were really tempted to put one of the 2 loss teams ahead of us but just couldn't?

Um, are we going to get a boast in cred considering that the Rams haven't loss since playing us?

How about the fact that we have now beaten 3 playoff teams from last year, lost are only game to a good Cards team, and beat the Chargers by a larger amount than all the other losses combined (i think)?

ohh they absolutely would LOVE to put the pats or the skins over us but the more i think about this the more i may like the "no respect" aspect...is flying under the radar such a bad thing???

  13. jd, I am not trying to be one of those guys, but i really don't have a problem with it and until NY, Pitt or Tenn lose badily or win REAL ugly we are probably going to be stuck at #4.

i dont have a problem with the rankings. my gripe is with espn...one week we are pretenders the next we are contenders..it's ridiculous...the same thing happened with new england when the lost to san diego...last week they were toast and this week's bs win over the broncos espn said they are ready to make a run at the super bowl
