  1. Get the thought of signing old, washed up, "me first" players out of your heads. This guy went from a franchise where he was the big fish. He was a huge reason why Carson Palmer wanted nothing to do with the Bengals as they let Johnson's dog and pony show run chaos throughout the organization. When he was finally shown the door he went to a top tier organization that does not put up with BS such as his. They put him on notice and he quickly realized (maybe not quickly) that just running around on the field calling for the ball is not the way an efficient offense is run. A successful NFL team/offense is about structure, timing and discipline. He received culture shock when he met the Patriots, it amazes me that he was able to get away with his antics so long in Cincy.

He is a Bum, a wasted talent that was never taught the meaning of TEAM. My prediction is that he will end up on some low level team to possibly try and sell some tickets. He will talk a big game, call for the ball, maybe even have 1 or 2 good games. Then, week 5, as the team is 1-3 or 0-4 you will see him pouting on the sideline, calling out the QB and then cut the next week.

    Guy is DONE

  2. Link, please? That sounds very uncharacteristic for Kyle to diss or call out a teammate publically.

Funny, thought the same thing. My guess is that he made some sort of general comment and it is taken way out of text. Actually the exact same way another poster said something about the coaching staff assuring Sheppard as being the starter at the end of last year.

  3. ST guy. Did not play well as a WR at the end of last season.

Given how fast the injuries piled up combined with Chan's love of the 4 WR set, I think we see at least 8 plus Brad Smith.

The smart strategy for the young guys is to go hard on ST and show versatility, the #4 guys and above have to show something on ST.

Way off, six at most and Brad Smith.

Stevie, Graham, Nelson, Hagan, (SMITH but listed as 3rd QB) and then Aiken, Jones, Easley, Martin, Roosevelt, Clowny or Session for the final 2....

My guess of that would be Easley and Jones with then Aiken and Session hitting the practice squad.

  4. Easley is big, fast, strong but has very little experience at both the NFL level and College level. Yes, he has the tools, but it is a matter of putting it all together in order to be successful in the NFL. Remember this, there were a bunch of WR's everyone (most) wanted Buffalo to draft rounds 1-7 and a bunch of those guys had the same characteristics as Easley. Now, that happens every year, as a matter of fact, Buffalo has another "Easley" on the roster in Hagan. Hagan basically has the same frame (maybe a little lighter) but a way more productive college career on a much bigger stage. He was taken in the 3rd round and really has not been able to solidify himself in the NFL. Hagan is an example and one of many WR's along the same lines. Another perfect example is the year that Buffalo took Hardy, Pittsburg took Sweed and the Redskins took Kelly. As you may recall everyone pretty much wanted Sweed or Kelly but Buffalo ended up with Hardy. In the end did it really matter? All 3 were spectacular college WR's at big time programs (IU is at least Big Ten) and all 3 have failed miserably in the NFL. Again, this happens every year and will continue to do so. Heck, look at this year and Buffalo's 3rd round pick. A very RAW WR with speed who not many had going before round 6 or 7. Not many people are giving TJ Graham much more credit other than his speed and Graham is a Fresh 3rd round pick vs Easley as a stale (2 years on IR) 4th round pick. He is a project, maybe a little bit of a reach, but that seems to be what it takes to find your NFL caliber WR's. A team needs to have a bunch in the hopes that 1 or 2 can actually be productive enough to help the team win. In Easley Buffalo took a flier on an athletic WR who was a little under the radar due to low production in college. They had/have the hope that he could maybe transition his athletic ability to the NFL but really cannot tell since he keeps landing on the IR. At this point Easley is no different than all 40 WR's that were taken this year, last year, the year before, etc.

Now, I am a huge fan and of course want Easley to succeed and be the best he can be. I hope he turns into an All Pro WR and Buffalo is set at the position for years to come. However I believe I am on the side of "Logical Optimisim" vs. "Delusional Placement". Unfortunately I believe many fans think Easley is the answer due to the fact they have kept him around, the fact he was a Buffalo draft pick and that his characteristics are more apparent since he was broken down a ton on draft day. Lets just hope he can put it all together on the NFL field.

  5. Huge character issues...read that little blip about the party he was throwing...then said it was off so he could play in the Bowl game...immediately after the Bowl game he put back up on Facebook the party was back on. UNC would then not allow him to participate in their Pro Day so he had his own 10 miles down the street immediately following UNC's in hope that the scouts would make the trip. Only one showed up, a local scout for the Broncos.

Talk about flushing your career down the toilet before it even begins. The Bills, along with 30 other teams, were not even considering this guy.

  6. Remember my dad took me to a game back in the late 80's when the Bills played the Packers. I was probably 10 years old or so. He made sure to get seats in the "non alcohol" section which basically was in the upper deck, corner of the end zone about 3 rows from the top. His hope these seats would provide a little more enjoyable "family" atmosphere. Well, some idiot dressed from head to toe in Packer gear and carrying some sort of bell kept prancing up and down the long set of stairs in the upper deck taunting everyone and anyone that was try to watch/enjoy the game....Well, as he got to the top of his route and was in the process of turning around...lets just say some Bills fan with a little "pat on the back" helped him find a quick way travel down about 60 stairs. He lay there for about 3 or 4 minutes before security just kind of dragged him away.

Remember it to this day....GO BILLS

  7. Charlotte, NC...from Pendleton (Lockport) and went to WNHS '95 - Been in Charlotte since '99 and back every single year for "the opener" since '99 - Crazy, two Bills bars (one downtown, one about a mile from downtown) about 2 miles from the house. $2 Blue/Blue Lights every day....its not home, but the closest thing to it

  8. 7 players out of 40 picked are still on the team. Less than a 25% success rate to where your "talent" was not retained. I don't know what the percentage is that is considered "good" but I am guessing it is greater than 25%. Now, a few players are still in the league who were drafted just no longer with the Bills. Most of those players were high picks (Maybin, Whitner, Poz) that were expected to produce and never really hit their projected level. I think that you could look at it in three overall categories:

    1. Players on the team

    2. Players in the league

    3. Players no longer in the NFL

  9. I wonder if we will hear any Merriman news after Monday? This will be the OBD's first look at Shawne since his surgery. Like many of you I'm itching to know how he will look, even just working out. Will he be taking it easy? I guess the same goes for Kyle Williams.

    PTR

Honestly, I would not put much into Merriman as he has unfortunately had to deal with serious injuries since 2007. He has proved to be in a very fragile state due to the numerous injuries and at this point is at best a situation based player if he even makes the team at all. Buffalo has been waiting on him ever since they signed him off of waivers to where if he is not full go and convincingly makes the team I believe his time is up.

The better topic would have been about Kyle Williams who you mentioned and who is far more vital to the team with his health at this point than Shawne Merriman

  10. Fair enough. I don't think fans realize how productive 10 TDs in a season for a WR is. There was only one other in 50 years of Bills history. This year there were only 6 WR who had 10 or more. In 2010 there were 10. In 2009 there were 6. In 2008 there were 6.

That is elite. You seem to just disregard it. But the point of the game for a WR is to catch passes and score touchdowns.

Kind of makes Scott Chandler elite as well...at least for a TE

  11. When you said "Trust me, they dont lock Stevie up he is not signing in Buffalo for what he signed for." I thought you meant he would sign for less on the open market. I misinterpreted what you meant.

Seriously, answer me this I understand both sides of the argument. Which number do YOU HONESTLY think is a better indication of a player's production--- if he starts two years and has 17 TDs in the two years for an average of 8.5. Or if he plays two years and has 10 the first and 7 the second so the 7 is a better indication. I'm also not talking about a guy who is aging and in decline.

I personally think the average of the two years is a much better indication. I do, however, understand the other argument.

I can see that both ways as well...my only fear there is that from week 6 on (10 weeks) he had a total of 3 TD's. Yes the offense broke down, but 3 TD's over the last 10 weeks is not comforting

Funny there John...Kelly admitted his mistake. Stop trying to gang up there tough guy.

  12. You're losing credibility very fast, if you had any. Steve Johnson would have made considerably more on the open market had he tested it, considering the contracts of Meachem, Laurent Robinson, and Vincent Jackson.

How do I lose credibility when I agree with that? So you think he would have gotten less? You dont think the Bills front office had anything to do with the Stevie Johnson deal getting done before Free Agency started? You do realize that teams put a deal on the table for a specified amount of time and if that time is exceeded the deal is off. My guess is they put Stevie to the test. You have 48 hours to "accept" otherwise Stevie would have tested the market. It is a game sometimes when it comes to negotiations.

I dont see how I lose creditbility when:

    1. I correct the TD's from 10 to 7

    2. Agree with the deal and that Stevie would have made more on the open market

    3. Feel that "Manning up" after the fact means ZERO when it comes to a team game. Dont make the stupid mistake to begin with ESPECIALLY after you have been warned. That is being 100% selfish

    I guess the truth hurts?

So you think other teams who would be willing to spend 40 million + on him would be wrong about him, too?

Do you think teams were wrong with Garcon, Robinson and or Meecham spending what the spent?

Yes, would have been way wrong.

  13. I should have looked at his total TD numbers.....also that is the difference between a fan like me and a fan like you.....I will admit when I am wrong on something.....you will hang onto a arguement to the point of embarrisment. 7 TD's is not bad either......he was injuried to the latter half of the season and had 10 in the previous year correct?

WR's drop balls.....nobody took TO's status away from him when he dropped passes because his overall production of outstanding in his career......he needs to stop with the stupid penalties.

Are you trying to say he would not have gotten more on the open market?

He definitely would have gotten a lot more...but with his production history, penalty history and overall upside he would not have been worth more than what the Bills paid. Both sides did well in the deal.

  14. How dense are you? Seriously.

    - So you are saying that a fan cannot compare the "physical attributes" of another wide receiver when making a comparison when they are making it obvious that they are not in the same league? If it makes you sleep better at night that you stick to that arguement then like I said....embarrised for you because it hurts your creditbility to stick to that......it really does.

    - Be sure to drop the bills a note where to find those 75 catch/1000 yard season/10 plus touchdown wideouts and I would like to know as well.....because the fact of the matter is there is a possiblity both Floyd AND Blackmon may never see those marks......nore do a lot of the NFL wide receivers out there right now..........your 100 plus/1000 yard plus recievers are a HANDFUL select few. ALSO you might want to go back and see how those handful of WR's did on Revis Island. It truly is one game......but a comparison worth noting. You are bitching because Johnson is not a elite reciever when the fact is we are damn lucky to have him. Should we keep bringing in good players? Do I hope that Easley makes it back and kicks butt? Do I hope we draft a WR early? You bet......you always try to improve your team.....but why the need to knock Stevie in the process?

    - comment 3 is another one of those "all or nothing" comments I was talking about.......always on the negative side. What I mean by my comment is if everyone on this team was making a mistake every now and then but doing whatever the equivalnt of 75 yards/1000 yard season/10 plus touchdowns is for THEIR position then this team would be very good across the board......savvy?

    - When I say he manned up he admitted his mistake after the game.....it was talked about in the media....and it DOES NOT MATTER if you think he was paid what he was worth....there were wideouts that were paid more that did not match his production....he and his agent aren't stupid.....and losing him would lose a legit number 1 option wide receiver from the team.....he stayed....he took less.....he deserves that respect.

Come on man...stop inflating his TD's unless you are counting ones he should of had (IE, JETS game). Stevie had 7 TD's last year. Trust me, they dont lock Stevie up he is not signing in Buffalo for what he signed for. I would give that credit to the Front Office of the Bills vs. Stevie. Manning up after the fact means ZERO when it comes to a team sport...He deserves respect if he makes the catch, stops the stupid penalties and continues to produce

  15. exactly, which would have been good for 6th in the NFL.

i've seen this argument played out 100 times before. "is player X a #1 center in the NHL?" "GOD NO, HE'S NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD AS CROSBY!!!" it's the same bull **** here. Just because Stevie isn't in the class of Megatron, Fitz, and Andre doesn't mean he's not a #1. It means he's not an elite player, which is something everybody here is okay with saying.

Sure...we will leave it at that. Definitely not elite. 20th best #1 in the league.

  16. way to own up to your mistake misidentifying me......but I expected nothing less

    - You miss the entire point.....which also is not suprising in the least. The fact that Stevie has a good game against Revis but the team lost has NOTHING to do with Stevie....its a team game. We didn't lose the game because of Stevie Johnson. If the OTHER members of the team played the same way Stevie does on that day we win that game.....this is what is so baffling about you to me.....you equate Stevies production to the final outcomes of games......you do realize that there are SEVERAL good recievers on other teams that play their ass off and their team still loses......it doesnt make that player any worse of a player because of the loss.

    - You take one thing and you equate it to another which you should not do.......the KC situation has absolutely nothing to do with our situation at all.

    - Lee Evans was once the number 1 of this team and Stevie Johnson was the number 2....Lee got traded....Stevie became the number 1....and his production remained the same even though he now takes either the double team or the best coverage corner....THAT is what makes him a true number 1. Is he a elite number 1 NO AND NOBODY YESTERDAY WAS SAYING THAT. The reference to Jerry Rice was when talking about height, speed, physical body traits......Jerry was not a fast receiver....Stevie is not a fast receiver.....they both do what they do off precise route running and run after catch.....THAT IS AS FAR AS THAT COMPARISON WENT. But you chose to do this all or nothing thing while making your arguement that just made it so people really couldnt take you seriously at all.

    - Stevie Johnson is the best receiver we have had since Eric Moulds....he is a true number 1.....he is not elite......it is unknown just where he ranks in number 1s because he has crap lined up across from him.

    - I will stick up for the good players of this team that stay here and are trying to biuld something.....he got embarresed at the end of last season by the coach but manned up and then went further by taking a deal tha allowed us to keep him....he could have gotten a bigger payday because his production the last 2 years beats out just about every free agent WR in this free agent period.

He is one of ours....he is good....we need more of them.....Im not going to listen to some "fan" talking crap about him.

Again BOSS MAN, It is you missing the point. Will lay it out simply for you:

    1. Bringing Jerry Rice's name into the conversation with Stevie (and making comparisions) is doing EXACTLY that. Comparing him to Stevie. Now, I know you did not do so, but you are trying to justify it which means you defend it and are too comparing Stevie to Rice. There are hundreds of WR's that have come through the league that have had Rice's size, speed, etc...They should NEVER (including Stevie) be mentioned in the same conversation as Rice. ESPECIALLY as comparrison.

    2. Glad you agree that he is not an Elite #1 and my point again, HE IS REPLACEABLE as a #1. A guy that averages 75 catches and 1000 yards per year is replaceable as a #1. Not saying to remove him from the team, just that there are better.

    3. If other players played the way Stevie did (take the good and the bad) as he dropped the game winning pass against the Jets...we miss about 30 more tackles and have 9 more drops. This is not Pee-Wee football...these guys are paid Millions to make the plays. Make them.

    4. I did not bring up the KC situation. Please (again) look back. Some other guy said that and I was responding. He seems to feel that Stevies performance was on par with Thomas's in the loss KC suffered. Again, dont compare, and you did not but others do, to players that the Bills have unless you mean it. Throwing players such as Thomas and/or Rice into conversations with current Bills players and SPECIFICALLY comparing them means exactly that...you are comparing that player or achievement with the Bills player.

    5. You say that he manned up? How? Because he went to the bench when he was told? Was he not told before the game not to act like an ass? You say that his production "basically" beat out any other FA WR this offseason? Sure, so you think it was a deep bunch of WR Free Agents? You dont think they were slightly overpaid? Stevie got what he was worth PERIOD

If 85 yards a game was average for a receiver, the yearly yardage for an average receiver would be 1,360. I don't know where people get it in their heads that receivers having less than 100 yards a game is not a good showing.

Cool, if he could do that against Revis he should be averaging 130 against far lesser DB's in the league...oh wait, he gained 1000 yards

  17. It was another poster who was asking you for the stats but thats ok you were pretty ridiculous trying to say I was comparing Stevie Johnson to Jerry Rice

At least keep the stories straight if you can

Just as it was another poster that said Stevied OWNED Revis Island. The point that I made is do 3 Receptions for 85 yard or 8 for 75 really mean anything to you at the end of the day if the Bills lose? You go home from the game or turn the TV off "Happy" because Stevie "owned" (per the posters) Revis Island but the Bills lost?

Derrick Thomas's 7 sacks are a record, but you as a KC fan would rather see that record vs. a Chiefs win? Maybe you guys all would since the Bills have not won many games in 11 years...personally I could give a crap less. I dont care if we have the #1 offense or the #32 offense as long as they are winning games. You are "ashamed" of me being a fan? Why because I want to WIN? Isnt this what it is all about? Think about it and think about where your standards are these days...Why do you continue to defend what the Bills have put on the field the past 11 years?

And, as for Jerry Rice...sorry if that was not you, but that is EXACTLY what he did when he brought Rice into that conversation

  18. Actually you are the one with the dunce cap on in this conversation.....begging for anyone to agree with your idiotic take. Its funny because other then loser Kelly is the one that is closest to agreeing with you and you cant see it.

I am embarrised you are are a fan of our team

I know where Kelly is at there John and trust me, he is not the only one. Go back and read the posts. Please give me STATS as you kept saying last night and let me know where the fault lies?

  19. Bluntly, you've disqualified yourself in this conversation with that ridiculous statement.

According to you, if the team loses, no player could have played a good game, huh?

It's hard to describe how absurd that is.

...The Chiefs lost the game Derrick Thomas when posted 7 sacks, btw. Another guy who had a bad game according to you, apparently (while setting an NFL record).

Sorry Bob...you may want to sit this one out. 7 Sacks in a game is FAR DIFFERENT than 8 Receptions for 75 yards or 3 receptions for 85 yards....I dont think Canton was calling for Stevies gloves after either game...WOW...

I don't think he is a top tier #1 either. I think he is middle of the pack. But if you look at his actual production, 70-80 catches and 1000 yards and 8-9 TDs a season is upper tier for a WR. Each year there are 10 guys who do that, but less than that do it consistently, and it's still a very good year for a #1 WR. It's just not elite.

Kelly, almost there...each year 15-20 do that and Steve is near the 20 vs. the 15....and correct...definitely not elite. Even at 20 it is the upper tier but not where the position could not be upgraded. Atlanta had Roddy White who is far and above better than Stevie and they traded for another #1 that is also far and above better than Stevie...if Floyd, Blackmon or anyone else the Bills draft could come close to what Jones put up for Atlanta last year that person if instantly thrust on to what Stevie has produced

  20. As I said before, if you look at his STATS from the two years he has played, his STATS are in the top ten in the league. There are not ten WRs in the entire league whose STATS are better than Steve Johnson.

Of course, stats do not tell the whole story.

If thats how you want to put it, which IMO is worse for many fans arguement, his STATS tell the story of a posession WR that will get you 70-80 catches and 1000 yards...thats averaging them over 2 years (not 4 or we would be in big trouble)...bring in the new #1

  21. So when you look at a player and whether he is bad or good or great you only look at stats from his last year, and not his career, or not a couple or few years in a row? That is not s better indication? Just forget what he has done before and only his last year shows how good he is?

He basically had the EXACT same stats the year before there Boss...would imagine that puts him in the same place...Personally I am a little more interested in what the player did LAST year vs. Previous years....you must be one of those MERRIMAN lovers...living in 2006
