  1. "Bob Marley died from emphisema and puffed about 6-10 joints a day, did it kill him? IDHK but he did die from a lung disease."

Just wanted to clarify as there is enough speculation and misinformation on both sides on this topic.

Robert Nesta Marley Died 5/11/1981 cause melanoma.

The cancer originated in his big toe. The way of the Rastafarian does not accept amputation and the cancer spread from his toe to his liver, lungs and finally his brain.

  2. No, I'd prefer they not do that either.

People also keep coming back to "how do you know your doctor nurse, etc don't already do x,y, z". You don't, but the point of the conversation is do you care if they do. Yes I care. If they do x, y, or z and I find out about it they will no longer be my doctor, nurse, etc.

If my pilot turns out to be the guy I saw stoned/drunk/whatever out of his mind the day before I'm sorry I'm not getting on the plane. If that makes me horribly close-minded so be it. Ditto if my kid's pediatrician does an interview in High Times. I'm going to be shopping for a pediatrician. In the case of the vascular surgeon, here's his problme. Lets say they are on their "leisure time" and decide, you know what I'm gonna get high after all I'm on my leisure time. 5 minutes later there's an explosion at a factory and hundreds of people are injured. The hospital he works at calls in all the doctors, and being one of the few vascular surgeons in the area he gets called to help put some people back together. At that point, because of what he chose to do in his leisure time he's either in the OR high or not in the OR at all. Either way people who would have benefitted from his expertise and training will not and will die because of it. Such is the life of a surgeon, particularly that kind of surgeon.

When you have a job where other people's lives depend upon your dexterity, coordination and judgment you have a responsibility not to engage in behavior which can impair those functions. Drug and alcohol abuse do that. I'll keep coming back to the other point that, for me, it shows poor judgment if you have a job where the consequences of getting caught are dire as in suspension, dismissal, potential loss of licensure which you have worked years to earn, inability to work in your chosen field, etc.

This relates to football in that the consequences of getting busted are pretty severe. You get one freebie, then it costs you 4 game checks which is hundreds of thousands of dollars, the third time it's a year minimum. Given the half life of the detectable substance in question it's just too difficult to know when you can and when you can't without being in danger of severe penalty. If someone in that situation does it anyway don't you have to call that judgment into question?

This seems to be a very strange viewpoint taking your avatar and signature into account. I find it funny that you think theres going to be an outward sign that your pilot or surgeon chooses to partake of the MJ or alcohol or say Rx drug abuse. What about morning coffee? that could make the hand shaky you know.

As far as being on call maybe we should outlaw fishing trips out of celular range for this same reason?

  3.

With the fourth coming up, after reading this, I could not help but think that it is a good thing our forefathers didn't share this belief. I'm sure I'll get flamed for making this comparison but the fact of the matter is they tried to do it the right way and work within the system. When that failed and they realized that they would never have a representative government they broke the laws. Of course the laws they broke would not have resulted in them losing a lucrative contract, they would have lost their lives had agents of the crown ever caught them.

If we look to more recent history you could use Martin Luther King as an example. As an activist he broke laws to bring attention to the injustice. By practicing civil disobedience and breaking those laws, he was able to get many of those laws changed because he brought attention to how unjust or hypocritical they were. We all know the old adage "when one man breaks the law he is committing a crime. When a thousand men break a law it is civil disobedience." It could be argued that if enough of these athletes tested positive it could actually force society to acknowledge a problem with the laws and force the politicians to address them. Of course that could never happen. Too many pharmaceutical companies would lose revenue; from the pain pills they push to the psychotropics (which have been involved in every significant school shooting over the past 20 years) that more than half the country is currently being prescribed, that is a lot of cash.

Yes, I know this thread is supposed to be about whether or not I care if Bills players smoke or not. I've always maintained that for the money these guys make they should be able to abstain. In fact I would prefer they did abstain as their inability to do so could cost the team dearly.

However, playing devil's advocate, I'd have to say if we did not have the draconian anti-marijuana laws, that were the result of a PR campaign designed to maintain control of a market, this would not be an issue and we'd be happy to have players treat their pain with marijuana as opposed to highly addictive substances such as the Oxycodone, Hydocodone, and Meperidine, which are routinely handed out to these athletes like candy. All of which, by the way, are very much mind altering, contrary to the claims of one poster.

    Great post

  4. I was going to post this but I never got around to it.

I always put Bernie Kosar in my top 10 all time QB list. Just something about the guy. He had Joe Montana like qualities. Very accurate, aware, smart as hell.

Yahoo sports ran a little thing about him losing all those big games in college pro. Really the guy should have led Cleveland to two Super Bowls. Denver and Elway got lucky two out of those three times.

In the wake of his bankruptcy, his name is in the news and I didn't want this to get lost in the shuffle.

Top 10 really? cmon now you really are Flutie arent you? I bet Bernie is gonna start a thread next about how you are a top ten all time great right?

    Sorry couldnt resist.

Top 10 no I would have him at the tier below that really good not great. Kinda in the Warren Moon, Dave Kreig , Drew Bledsoe class IMO.

  5. People keep saying Joe schmoe would get a much harsher punishment. I have yet to see anyone produce evidence of this fact. I would bet that probation,30 days, 2 yrs house arrest and 1000 hours community service would be a pretty good representation of a sentence given to someone who has never been in trouble with the law and cooperated with authorities fully for this crime.

  6. Lynch isnt fast. He never will be.

Really a 4.46 40 isnt fast? Darren Sproles ran a 4.49, LT a 4.4, AP 4.38 so I don't exactly get where you can say Marshawn isn't fast this just isn't true. I couldnt find a 40 time for Jackson but would be surprised if it was below 4.46.

  7. Ok so I have been in some heated debates on some message boards. I still think Vick is total scum. However he did serve his time (I don't think it was enough but whatever). I however think the commish should consider this proposal. Vick is reinstated on the condition that he donates 90 percent of his salary for the rest of his career to the humane society. With this solution we are helping the animals and shelters rather than continuing to punish Vick. That being said No way here on my beloved Bills.

  8. All the people that smoke pot have violated the law everytime with possession rules as well. If you think about it, going over the speed limit, drink and drive, pee in public, public intoxication, jaywalk, go through a red light, how many crimes to we all do all the time?

Peace loving mary's that go to church all the time and have to let you know about it are usually the first to violate the law, daily.

Really Skooby? Your comparing these crimes to what Vick did? Well I guess I shouldnt be surprised by someone who considers themself an insider by the type of car he drives and a picture of him shaking hands with an ex coordinator over security tape.

You need a dose of reality brother.

  9. Funny, I found the opinions just as irrational but for the other reason. A lot of 'they were just dogs, so what's the big deal?' type comments. Torturing dogs for sport? Really? How anyone could blow that off as no big deal says a lot about that person's character.

    :D

  10. What ever happens to dude happens, he served his time and needs to move on........just say no to DOGS.

My issue with him is that he is not clean; he is a walking herpes virus infestation. He needs to take care of himself. With all that he has been through, I hope he lost some of his inflated ego.

Some information about herpes for you.

I am confused by your post did you have plans of sleeping with him?

  11. Exactly we can't seem to get it right. All I am saying is that we have so many problems that animals are way down on the list. If we eliminate human trafficking, child labor, famine, and all other sorts of f*cked up things that we are doing to each other that can be stopped in our lifetime than we can focus on helping animals on a wide range.

Peta gets 31 million dollars a year in donations in my opinion that is money that could be better spent on much more worthy causes.

And we do have more of a right to the planet we are the dominate species ; what are we suppose to do bow down to our animal overlords and let them take back their land? We have to respect our animal counter parts but its just nature that the dominate species takes over. Its nice to say we should share our land with our animal equals but once you take a look at what that actually means its kind of stupid. If dogs were the dominate species they would not treat us like equals its just nature

89 I agree with you on alot of your points the 31 mil is splitting hairs because we just gave the rich almost a trillion dollars. I disagree with you that as the dominant species we have more right to the planet. Of course I'm not saying give the animals back the land. We could go back and forth on this forever I mean by your reasoning the british man is greater than the indian right? I mean he came over with guns and dominated took that inferior races land and gave them little slivers here and there. See I think we need to value all life to think we are greater or more entitled is to play God.

I'm not actually a religious person but I do believe that all life is precious and here for a reason. I tell you what like yourself I try to look for the good in people, like yourself I would like to see us iron out these issues but honestly watch the news heck even read this one thread.

We have people shocked that someone would dump loyalty to a professional sports team over an issue that is close to their heart and part of their moral fabric. Does this not worry you a little? Is this the mentality that will help us iron out our problems? Maybe if we started to value ALL life a bit more we could start to find some solutions.

  12. For every dog that saves people from fires there are thousands of humans that do the same they are called fire fighters. For every dog that can detect cancer there are doctors and other countless medical personnel looking to find a cure so a child doesn't have to loose a dad so early in life.

Once again I just see the good in people and I don't think dogs are worthless its just I think we should worry about the messed up stuff we do to each other before going out of the way to protect animals so much. If we make a better human being and a better society than people will treat animals better. I know a lot of people love dogs but I am sorry a dog will never love you as much as your mother, dad, wife, husband, child ect.

Actually these dogs are detecting cancer before our medicine can do so that is something special. This could save a father, mother, brother or sister. To me the main difference is these animals count on us we have created them they are not capable of life without us. Not in the way we have bred them through the ages anyway. All I'm saying is we are supposed to be the most evolved species on the planet yet we can't ever seem to get it right. People kill alot more people than animals do. All I'm wondering is why do you feel we have more right on this planet than animals do. If anything we have proven that we have less respect for eachother and the planet than animals do. Oh yeah they were here before us as well.

  13. A dog will never support a family or do great things like cure cancer. Honestly what Leonard Little did was much worse than what Vick did. Because of Little someone won't have a dad or a son which is soo much worse than harming a dog who has no family they count on.

Once again not saying what Vick Did was O.k. or that violence against animals is acceptable at its just I think we care a little too much about animals at the expense of human beings

Wow I don't even know where to start with this post, dogs have saved families from fire rescued thousands from disaster. Protected many family members and guess what it's now being proven that certain dogs can detect cancer before clinical diagnosis. These are just a few of the many examples so I wouldnt exactly agree with your opinion of their worth.

Matter of fact if you consider what we do with animal testing and the fact that the majority of dogs with aggression issues are brought about by human abuse. I would much more likely believe we worry about humans a bit to much at the expense of animals. Oh yeah I forgot because we are human we have more right to the planet than all other species whatever was I thinking?

  14. Dogs Most Likely to kill

I could care less what the AKC says about the breed. The fact that so many people train them to be aggressive and that the "gene pool" is watered down means that you have no idea what that dog will do and the vast majority fo folks out there don't have AKC dogs. As such my 3 year old will be taught to stay very very very far away from pit bulls and rottweilers

I would agree with what you are saying here, an interesting note however lies right in the link you provided. Interesting about a child being killed by a pomeranian that had been raised as a watchdog. You also had German Shepard listed as a friendly breed when in fact they are number three on the list of fatalities. I do understand your point I just think that there are more irresponsible pit and rot owners out there. I'm just saying don't blame the breed for the non responsible owner. Keep your child away from pits and rots if you want to but don't be lulled into a false sense of security with other breeds. It is your responibility to make sure your daughter knows how to act around and respect dogs. I think any breed or species for that matter would be more apt to act out of character when it is more widely abused. Don't condem the breed on your opinion that its an aggressive breed, uncover all the facts. I know plenty of Pits that I have no problem with my children being around however they have responsible owners and proven bloodlines.

I would however agree due to the underlying issues and the widespread abuse of Pits and rots it is best to be aware of and on guard towards these breeds.

  15. There's no such thing as a friendly pit bull there are only pit bulls that haven't attacked anyone yet.

Are there plenty of friendly dogs in the world? Sure there are. Cocker spaniels? yes. German shepherds, yes, Retrievers? yes. Bulldogs? yes. (which by the way were specifically bred for their fighting acumen which is why they look the way they look)

Pit bulls exist for a single purpose and I would not let my child NEAR one let alone own one.

This is one of the most untrue and misleading posts in this thread. The AKC has the American Pit Bull listed as one of the best choices for breeds that are child friendly. You are mistaking overbreeding and a diminished gene pool and the fact that alot of people raise Pits to be aggressive for a naturally agressive breed. In fairness Pits are naturally dog aggressive however they are one of the most loyal and child friendly breeds out there.
