  1. ....Onestep closer to the top draft pick. So far it is between us and Dallas. How ironic??

Doesn't matter. The Bills won't pick a player that can help them. It's not in their nature.

I think back to the great team of the late 80s-early 90s and I recall the stroke of luck that someone traded for Greg Bell. That's not likely to happen again.

  2. Thank you for bringing to my attention that his team is not very talented - I didn't realize that. Clearly that excuses awful decision making when the coach's only job is to put his team in the best position to win. Good thing they burned a time out on 3rd & 30 too.

Dude, timeouts get burned when players do stupid things to force you to. Like he said in the pre-game interview, he won't know how this team will react until they play in a real game. I will be just as critical if he does nothing about this. He HAS to know that losing the Dolphins at home on opening day is about the worst thing a new coach can do. Let's see what happens next. Bottom line is that he probably did everything he could with this mess.

  3. So were the chances of us completing a pass on 4th and 10 from our 1 inch line, after the previous 3, one of which should have been a pick 6 by Edwards, after he should have had another pick 6 earlier in the game.

Yeah, I don't blame Chan for having no confidence in Trent. I just hope he has seen the Edwards has no game confidence. Fewell saw it.

  4. I put off some work to watch this -- they'll show Fins road games here -- but these guys are wasting my time now. Will keep an eye on the score. What a shame.. I hoped that it would at least be better than last year, but this is a huge step backward. In fact they seem to be very good at going backwards..

  5. The all-blue uniforms look like a Division III college. The color is something a fashion person came up with and should be discarded immediately. The darker color worked for some teams but not the Bills. Bring back the 60s uniforms. They are classics, like the Packers, Cardinals, Vikings, and Cowboys uniforms. The Seahawks, Jaguars, and Panthers are the worst. Abstract logos suck.

  6. I'm seriously starting to think that our dark navy blue and red color scheme is tough to see (for our QB especially) compared to some of the other teams vibrant jerseys - Dolphins, Colts, Giants, Vikings...

But the Saints wear black. Didn't affect them. I agree, though, that these uniforms bite. I've always felt that way. Bring on those throwback uniforms, which look like football uniforms.

  7. I think Chan deserves at least two years to see if he's even minimally competent, barring a 0-16/1-15 Cam Cameron style disaster. If they look absolutely clueless and uncoached, maybe the year could do him in, but if they just look like inferior talents who can't get the job done because they don't have the raw talent, that's not on a first year staff.

Honestly, I have reasonably decent expectations for Chan. I think he's got decent, above-average potential, if not a likely star. I still haven't been convinced by Nix, whose moves and non-moves have left me scratching my head. He's got a chance to show off Spiller now, and possibly as a starter into week one. I'm not giving a verdict for now, but I'm looking forward to seeing the evidence.

Spiller was definitely Chan's request. I doubt Nix would have picked him otherwise.

  8. My source was right.

My source called me this morning to tell me that they were doing the operation on him and, as I eluded to in my post, it sounded really painful, not going into details because of the sensitivity to the injury, but he said that he was going to be out at least 6 weeks.

I think you mean "alluded". Changes the meaning pretty dramatically!

  9. I don't doubt it. After all, this is the home of Freedom Fries. No joke, I played the French Horn, among other brass instruments, back in high school. Our band director, a crazy pseudo-patriot, insisted that we be referred to as the "Freedom Horn" section.

He was crazy. Every player of the instrument hates the "french" part. College students and professionals simply call it the "horn".

  10. The Fighting Irish?

As an Irish-American (and a Hibernian) I'm cool with it. Until African Americans were allowed to fight whites, the Irish were among the very best boxers. Take a look at the logo. Also the Irish have been prized warriors throughout history. We pushed the British back onto their island from right next door.

  11. Are you the real deal or one of those "I'm 5% Cherokee people?" Regardless, I'm a white guy, but diehard Native history and culture. I go up to Pine Ridge and the Black Hills once a year. Personally I am more offended by the Braves and Seminoles chant more than anything, then the Indians logo second and the Redskins name third. The Redskins do have a very respectful and badass logo. I am very offended that the Fighting Sioux of North Dakota were forced to give up their nickname. How is that any different than the Fighting Irish? The Seminoles name and logo is also totally respectful, although I think they have some goofy mascot. The point is that I think it's totally cool to pay homage to Natives with a mascot or team name as long as it's not done in poor tatse and there are clearly plenty of examples of both in sports today.

Seminole grad here. Our mascot is anything but goofy. His outfit is vetted by the Seminole tribe and he rides in on a fine horse and plants a burning spear in the center of the field. The university is fully supported by the Seminole tribe and there is a good scholarship program in place for them to attend.

Go Noles! Dude, the chant is awesome.

  12. Stats are nice, but my question is "Did the guy play well and mostly beat the best competition in the college game?"

    Peyton Manning - yes

    Jim Kelly - yes

    Dan Marino - yes

    Joe Namath - yes

    Joe Montana - yes

Some teams take a baseball philosophy and think that they can take a good athlete and make him into a good football player. There just isn't time at the NFL level. If you draft guys who played great against the best competition, hire good coaches, and get a little bit lucky, you will win in the NFL. I will admit that you have to take into account a college team's system. NFL teams rely more on the quarterback than say Florida or Texas in recent years. W-L record is not quite as important in those cases.
