  1. It doesn't look like EJ trusts TJ like he does Stevie and Woods. I can't say I really blame him when TJ doesn't try to make a play on the ball, even if it's underthrown. The WGR guys were saying Graham was getting over in the 2nd half, but EJ wasn't looking his way. I'd like to see them get on the same page to see some productivity.

  2. I went with: Inability to convert 3rd downs, Penalties, and Turnovers.

I believe untimely penalties and drops were the largest causes of this loss. I counted 5 first downs nullified due to those reasons. That is significant, especially when seeing the Bills converted 15 total first downs in the game. Of course, turning the ball over in your own end is also a fast way to give a game away.

  3. Thanks for posting! I had been wondering, but not had time to check. It feels like the rookie camp is a little later than normal doesn't it? Maybe I just haven't been this excited in a while.

8 days away isn't far off, but it will feel like forever. There definitely seems to be more excitement this year than in recent memory. I guess that comes with taking a QB in the 1st round!

  4. I've been doing some research on Marrone, and am finding mostly positive feedback. To those who are dead set against the hire, could you please elaborate on your misgivings of the hire?

    I've read that he:

Is very aggressive in his schemes, but conservative with his game day play calling

Has taken a historically bad SU program and taken it to two bowl wins

Has taken Nassib, a QB who after his freshman year was expected to be an UDFA at best, and helped him become a potential top 2 round pick

Has experience managing two running backs

Is not an NFL retread, but still has head coaching experience

Offensive minded coach, has been associated with success in the NFL as OC (New Orleans) and OL coach (Jets)

http://scottpitoniak.blogspot.com/2013/01/marrone-good-choice-to-rebuild-buffalo.html - Drew Brees told me that he “loved working with Marrone because Doug knew offenses inside and out, was meticulous in his preparation and was a great leader.”

He knows how to prevent a player from poisoning the locker room, Mike Williams at SU for example

This is not something the Bills do. The more I read about Marrone the more I'm liking.

  5. I just watched an old school video of Merriman when he was terrorizing QB's in San Diego and he was playing OLB on every one of the plays getting to the QB. Why do we have him at DE when he's obviously a situational pass Rusher at OLB? Why do Wanny and Chan feel he is a DE? Isn't it crazy to think that part of his problem of getting back to his old form is due to us making him put a hand to the ground on every play he's in?

This past game i had the opporunity to rewatch all 7 snaps he was in and on the first snap he took in particular he had come off the ball so fast and got a hurry on the QB that the tackle gaurding him looked stupid. On the other seven plays he had trouble winning the hand battles with the tackle and I'm no DC but it makes sense to me that his role in SD was to get around the tackle not hand battle with him. I would love to see him switch him to a 3rd down LB not an every down DE. I think we'd get much more out of him this way.

The responsibilities of a 3-4 OLB and a 4-3 OLB are not the same. A 3-4 OLB most closely translates to a 4-3 DE. This is exactly what happened with Mario on the Texans. He was a 4-3 DE up until last year when Wade Philips implemented a 3-4 D, which he played as an OLB.

  6. Then eff him. I get the frustration. I was ready to punch walls. but screw the cry me a river BS. I got no respect for bandwagon fans. Don't spend your money on tickets or whatever but don't say you quit the team and then try to come back. For true Bills fans, it's like family. As much as they screw up, they still are your family and you don't bail on them,

You're speaking my language today. I had the same thought earlier. It hurts because I care. I care because they're like family. You can get mad at them, yell at them, berate them, but you still stick with them.

  7. 3) Please Bills Fans, do take this seriously. On the opening play of the 2nd quarter, Kyle Williams dropped back into PASS COVERAGE. Kyle is a penetrating defensive tackle. There is NO scenario in which he should be in pass coverage. He, btw was standing alone in the middle, and they did give up the first down. Wanny is every bit as bad as Jauron. Perhaps even worse, and I never thought I would be able to say this. Sorry to repeat this, but he should be fired, and escorted out of the stadium, as well as Western NY. Maybe he should be escorted out of the country. He is as bad as anything I have ever watched.

This was the single worst play call of the game. It was tied 14-14, ball at the TEN 33, 3rd and 9. The D hadn't had a stop yet in the game, and our O only had one possession at the time. So the logic is to take the guy who gets the most consistent penetration on the line and put him into zone coverage. What the F. Can't get pressure with 4, so lets do 3 instead? Having KW rush may not have yielded a different result on the play, but at least you're putting your best players in a situation where they can do what they do best.

  8. I thought the best part of his post was using that article to rebuff what he had deemed "subjective" analysis from fans...

Any ranking system is going to be subjective based off of how the ranker weighs each criteria in which they evaluate the squad/position.

What is more important is how the line is performing in the offense that it is running. Clearly this will also be subjective, but I would say the Bills line is doing an admirable job of handling their responsibilities. I'm glad for the depth we have with Rinehart and Hairston, but I think both Urbik and Glenn have been more consistent while they're playing.

  9. best O line ??.....very subjective.....

here's one ranking that has us 13th:

    13. Buffalo Bills

    LT: Cordy Glenn

    LG: Andy Levitre*

    C: Eric Wood*

    RG: Chad Rinehart*

    RT: Erik Pears*

Top reserves: OT Chris Hairston, OG Kraig Urbik*, OT Sam Young, OT Zebrie Sanders

Overview: The Bills' 2011 offensive line graded out as the NFL's top pass-protecting unit, according to both Pro Football Focus and Football Outsiders. Though no doubt assisted by Ryan Fitzpatrick's quick release, Buffalo allowed a league-low 23 sacks, which is another strong vote for the argument that elite left tackle play isn't necessarily a difference-making NFL quality. The Bills feel they improved on the left by stealing Glenn with the 41st pick in the draft, and bring back incumbent Hairston as a talented, tested backup. Similar players Urbik and Rinehart will vie for the right guard job. Wood is returning from a torn right ACL, but should be close to 100 percent by camp and has been a dominant center when healthy. While this group lacks household names, its combination of continuity, athleticism, and impressive scheming makes it quietly a top O-Line.

That ranking came before this season even started. The line has been better than I, and many others, expected it to be.
