What I'd love most is to see another shutout.

I don't care if we only score 7 points. If we can hold Miami to 0 points in 2 games, that would be the most satisfying thing for the rest of the season (outside of winning a Super Bowl). Hope the defense comes back with a vengeance & really hands it to them!

    Seriously?

I’ll happily settle for any (injury-free) outcome spelled W I N, then rinse and repeat every week.

The Fish are neither food nor friends; just another step to climb w/o tripping…

  2. I lucked into being able to hit The Harp for the FishSquish a few weeks ago, not as crowded as I’ve seen it, but still; a blast.

Do any of you have any knowledge of an active Bills bar in RI?  There are two that appear on the Bills Backers map of the country, but they appear to be dormant…

I’ve got a buddy with a cool, retro bowling alley in Cranston that I’m trying to talk into going in that direction…but he’s pretty thoroughly dyed in the Patsies wool…. A hard sell so far.

The thing that rings so true in his analysis, even though Connolly never explicitly acknowledges the link, is that: the E-P passing offense Daboll is schooled in relies on running the same route concepts but out of different formations and personnel groupings. This allows for pre-snap motions (which help the QB diagnose coverage) and the illusion of schematic complexity/diversity when in fact the offense is just dressing up the same core route concepts and combinations in different looks.

Take the following example of the first Sanders TD (in which the Bills stick with their preferred route concepts while using a different offensive school's formation):

    Sanders bunched formation TD.jpg

Thanks, great explanation, so I went back to the article and watched/read multiple times.  This quote is good, imho:

On the Sanders touchdown, the Bills paired a vertical hook with an out-and-up to the stacked side. On the backside, Stefon Diggs had a go route. The vertical hook is there to draw the eyes of both safeties towards the high hole/post zone. If either safety bites on the hook, Allen can launch it vertical to that side. If both safeties split out to cover the vertical routes, Allen can fire it to the hook.

At the snap, Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (#38) backed up towards the sideline. The safeties tried to bracket Diggs on the go (the most dangerous player) and the slot (the most dangerous route). Sanders broke out then up, roasting Sneed for the simple touchdown.”

We’re toying with teams at this point. This game won’t look anything like last year. We’re about to blast these fools.

Guv, you didn’t just ring the bell with this take, you knocked the bell off and into the next county.

might as well just shut the board down until kickoff…

Freaking Chris collinsworth "one heck of a drive"... That s*** was dink and dunk all the way down.

I just don’t get the Collinsworth hate here.  If that was OUR rookie QB, we’d be pretty da*n pleased with that drive, ferchrissakes…

i have had some sadness occur in my life this past week.  Not ashamed to admit tears were shed.

Honestly, this mad me feel a little bit better.

    Thank you, ‘Tank.

Bob, I know it is an extra billion dollars, I know I am not necessarily for it, and I know it changes game day.

But in all truthfulness, I think in the long run it will be a sizable mistake on the fortunes of this franchise not to have a domed stadium for such a period of time that will extend past the end of my life.

This is the one and only opportunity to turn this team into a warm weather city.

Doesn’t matter how many/what kind of stadiums you build, you can’t change a team into a city, and you can’t change Buffalo into a warm weather city with a new stadium, either.

Buffalo is not San Diego.  We still kicked their asses the only two times we’ve won a championship.

its just that our strength now is this high octane precision passing offense. Unlike the K gun days, we really don’t have a strong running game to lean on when needed. I’d rather have the option with the new stadium to at least minimize the weather, if we want to.

This is not a synchronized swim team we’re rooting for, it’s football, c’mon now…

Rain on Sunday— ugh. Build a dome, I beg you!!!

I know this is so ‘last century’ of me, but seriously?? A dome??

To me, half of being a Bills fan is rejoicing in being outside watching them, no matter the weather.

I watched two of our SB appearances on a TV that we moved outside (with a tarp strung up over it) just so it would feel like we were actually at a Bills game…and yes, it snowed both times, couldn’t have been happier (at least with the weather…).

Well, there's a reason why the Bills ran (1,1) the most last season.

But if we're going to keep a running back and a TE in to block....it had better be one who can actually block, like Moss.

I assume you were at the game and had a more consistent viewpoint, but in a couple plays that stood out to me (like 4th and 8 where Dawkins got put on skates), Singletary looked clueless.  Were there plays you noted where Singletary was in to block and did so capably?

Joe B already has a detailed article up on The Athletic with a lot of data

I don't remember the set on that deep pass to Sanders, but BadOl has a point that to buy the QB time for a deep pass to develop, max protect may be needed.

There may have been some missed opportunities on those 9 5wr or those 26 4wr plays or those 2 2 wr plays  that would have swung the stats.

But Joe B. is right - objectively, the results from 5wr and 4wr scheme suggest that, as Daboll has said about "balance", it wasn't working, and when it's not working they need to do more of the this and less of that.   So you might want to re-think that "defend to the death" policy.

Unless you're actually Brian Daboll, in which case you're just explaining why we saw what we saw.  In which case, you might still want to re-think that "defend to the death" thing.

(1,1) was our bread-and-butter last year and it may be this year as well.

    How you mean (1,1)???

aka, what the heyho is (1,1)??

or, it’s late and I really don’t understand what you mean by (1,1)?

or, I’m really tired of typing all those parentheses, etc…..

EDIT: is that just “11 personnel” in parentheses-speak???

Lol.  No I’m not making this Stills vs Davis.  I’m just stating facts.

    davis is hurt

if Davis doesn’t play, stills might replace his spot on the active roster.

I would like the Wr that replaces that Davis to be able to run the routes that Davis runs, in order to keep Diggs, Brown Beasley and Mckenzies routes the same and not change up everyone’s plays because still is pigeonholed into the only route he can run well, the go route

To recap-  still would be replacing Davis—-that’s where the comparison comes into play.

that’ll do it for me on this waste of time subject.

I first read that in the morning, probably before coffee. While going through texts and emails and catching up. So when I saw Tip Drill it just stuck in my head.  It was clearly just a play that went awry for the offense. And a nice defensive effort.

To my eye, it appeared to be Tre just having some ultra-athletic fun, he knew where his open buddy was, and did a push / alley oop to him?!

I’ll be worried until he returns to practice. But he’s been out there every day, just not participating. So it’s not like he’s having to get treatment during practice,  and I’m assuming  if there’s no real necessity for him to practice or play in preseason, they can bubble wrap him and rest any minor injuries right now and he can return after the last preseason game with 2 weeks to get ready for week 1.

This discussion about 14… are we worried that SD is really hurt? When might he return??

Maybe someone slipped something into my beer(s) tonight, but it occurred to me ‘what if we just protect Stefon until we need him?’

In individual games, and over the course of the season in general, is where my thoughts ran to…

I know he’s not a china doll, but does it make any sense in the football world to essentially keep him on ice until such time as we need him to help pull out an individual game? And at the end of the year when we need him to be not hobbled by an oblique something or other…

I'm sure there could be a joke in there given your screen name, but I'll leave it there.😉

Yes, I agree it sucks. It's tough to achieve a dream like so many of these players have. It takes a lot of work and dedication and I'll give all of these guys props for making it this far. Hopefully some of them can find a spot and continue to live their dream. Best of luck to all.

Yes, let’s remember at this time of increasingly frenetic Bills fandom (long- and short-term) that every one of these guys that were cut today would be 1,000% welcome in any gathering, any discussion, any almost anything in all of our lives.  “Extreme Bills Mafia Kudos” to all of them, whatever their names are….?!

Is it just me imagining that you meant to say ‘and the offensive line top 5 and not killing him…..’??

In any case, ‘the offense being sublime’ is a phrase that I’ve not seen the equal of on this board….🙂

Having to hold the phone up to your ear is probably too distracting/using one of your hands, the hands free calling should be fine I mean it's not really any different than having a conversation with someone in the car at that point.

Ahh, and there’s the sneaky devil in the details.. when you’re driving and conversing with passengers in the car with you, they are living/thinking in the same reality as you are.  Every one of them is, to one degree or another, aware of the driving realities you’re facing at any given moment.  That is absolutely not the case when conversing with someone outside your vehicle.   That person is obviously important enough for you to have taken/made the call, and the main consequence of that semi-conscious choice on your part is that you are going to make every attempt to get into their reality.  It’s a really slippery slope…
