  1. When Freddy was jawboning about Marshwn, all I could think of was a TD that Marshwn ran in from (I think) 10+ yards, with Freddy just pancaking the only defender with a chance to make the stop...

After the play, Marshwn trotted behind Freddy, bowing to him repeatedly all the way to the sidelines...

Obviously it was a while ago, and being of 'advancing age' I have no idea who the opponent was, etc. (I'm sure someone here will know off the top of his head). My favorite Freddy moment.

edit: My favorite Freddy moment TO DATE...

  2. I respect the view that his name represents what he did on the field.

I am also also extremely embarrassed to see his name on our stadium wall because it represents the ultimate scum bag, murderer, thief and liar he is as a man.

If you ask the average American what they think when they see his name on our wall when the cameras scan the stadium, I would guess the ladder..

It's bad for Buffalo and a bad example to the young people of WNY.

    His name should come down.

I agree with the above, with the obvious exception to "the ladder", which has rungs, and.....well, you know.

I have to tell a story. A number of years back, I was doing my chemical coatings salesman thing, returning home from a trip to a plant in Ontario. Of course, listening to WGR the whole time. They were discussing the change of name of the stadium from Rich to something else, and the discussion was what should the name be?

Never having called into a radio show before, I blithely dialed up the number, and much to my surprise, I was put through immediately. No pre-discussion screening of what I wanted to say, etc. So I start in on how any city that can welcome back to town the wide right Bills with a mass gathering on the tarmac at the airport, and then blow up the gathering at City Hall the next day with chants of "Scotty, Scotty, Scotty" is, plain and simple, a community that knows what it means to 'do the right thing'. Then I suggested that a community such as ours should logically name the stadium after Nicole Brown Simpson. They hung up on me like I was oozing leprosy through the phone.

Haven't called another radio station before or since, right?

  3. So my question is who else is on this board that wants to join me in hanging at Gillette to see if we can score super cheap tix?

I actually saw the Bills play once in the Rockpile when I was about 10. Since then, I've only seen them play in Foxboro, and of course they've lost every time. I figure that I have to keep going because the first time we beat them here it will be huge at that moment, and huge for our future.

Realistically, I also figure that if ever there was gonna' be a cheap ticket to a Pats game it's this one.

    Anybody in?

  4. No, this game did not hurt our draft stock. Because our draft stock doesn't matter in December, winning football games does. I will not be rooting against this team in week 17 even. The difference between 7-9 and 4-12 are huge for this team, not just because the wins are few and craved, but because each and every win goes a long way to changing the hopes and beliefs and culture of this team. I know we have put a lot of our hopes in the draft, but the difference between the #8 and #15 pick are just not as much as everybody here makes out, while winning football games really matters.

So I am not just glad we won today for today's singular enjoyment, I am happy we won today for what it means to this club on draft day, and all through next season.

    Go Bills

Go Koufax! I believe that you speak for all true Billievers: wins are notches in the belt, all the rest is basically fluff. Go Bills.

  5. Well, there you have it, a team that got you excited a little, you bought in (even a little), and now you've had your seat pulled out from under you, your hopes dashed, or as in our case, your heart ripped out again.

Do not fret, there is a mysterious reward awaiting all of us true fans somewhere... is it over the rainbow?? or on the other side of The Falls...?

Knock 'em dead out of the box, play a tight game, inexplicably fold at the end... trust me, it is simply an exercise in character building for all of us.

Do you remember the cover of the Fleetwood Mac "Bare Trees" album? Gray, gray skies, barren landscape with a few interestingly-intertwined BARE TREES!!

Somehow it was inspiring, perhaps due to the catchy tunes, but the album cover was seminal, at least for me. It stands for why it doesn't always have to be sunny and warm for us, why bad results are simply a learning experience, why we all pull together no matter the odds or the previous results.

Are we just a band of idiots? Perhaps, but we revel in the adversity, we continually find the silver lining, and we always look to the the next (even minute) good thing, for that is what it means to be a Bills fan... and days like today just drive the point home.

Certainly, absolutely, without a doubt there will be seasons to come when our boys don't leave us hanging like today.... we're absolutely positively sure of it.

    Someday...

(This, of course, is the "glass half full" version"; catch me later when I'm hurling glasses and expletives out into the yard for the 'reality show')

  6. Well, 15K plus posts humbles me (to a degree), and I will admit that my post probably amounts to 'piling on'.

But Hall, I'd bet dollars to donuts that I'm not only older than thou, but also have been addicted to ye olde Bills for longer as well, and I long for the days of Lou Saban and Wade Phillips when this team showed some cojones.

After years and years of lurking about these pages, this year I was sufficiently inspired to actually finger out how to log in and post simply because it SEEMED that this new regime was something different, and a step forward.

To my mind, the oft-stated-here fear of losing Pettine in the near future feels real... if it were my impetuous self running this operation I would can Marrone and Hackett based on what we've seen this year and make Pettine the HC. At the very least no one could question our aggressiveness, not to mention unpredictable play calling.

  7. From Marauder's Micro: "Especially when they are weak at WR (and TE), why not have their 2 best offensive players (FJ and CJ) on the field at the same time? Both can catch the ball well out of the backfield. ..it's mystifying."

From mjt328: "The rookie excuse has worn thin. They are 10 games into a 16 game season."

From WGR's Howard Simon yesterday: "...but the worst moment came one minute into the fourth quarter. It was 4th and 5 at the Pittsburgh 36 yard line and the Bills were down 17-3 yet Marrone played the field position game. The punt left Pittsburgh at their own 11 and they promptly moved the ball out to near midfield before the drive stalled. I know the offense is dying out there but you have to take a shot down 14 with 14 minutes to go. You're at the Pittsburgh 36 for goodness sakes! Just go for it. What have you got to lose at that point?"

There are more examples than just the above three, but one simply has to question the ability of Marrone and Hackett to finger out their SCH**TT!?

OK, Hackett has a big deal father/coach for whatever that's worth. But Marrone was the Offensive Coordinator of the New Orleans Saints , when they were tearing it up ferchrissakes! How can he allow all this clueless game-decision stuff to hose us?

When they punted on the 36 yard line of the Steelers, I had to leave the bar. Why bother watching when the coach just told the world that he has less than zero confidence in his offense, AND OH BY THE WAY, he hasn't noticed that his defense has been horrendously overworked, and he doesn't get that at some point he has to scheme to take advantage of his players' emotions?

That decision to punt made me puke.

  8. I cant seem to get upset anymore.

I've been the only Bills fan in the same bar in Fall River, MA for over 12 years. Mostly Pats fans, of course, but a lot of Steelers, Dolphins, Cowboys, and others represented. None of them can believe that I haven't broken anything yet. "How can you stay so calm, that play just sucked!!!!!!!" I've heard it a thousand times.

No longer do I allow myself the anguished yells / sighs / curses. I get a little buzz when we score, but I can't possibly allow that to linger; I know better.

Basically I'm deluding myself into thinking it's fun to be civil with the assembled bunch of jerks so that I don't feel the pain so much any more. The junk better get better quick, 'cuz this addiction is really starting to wear thin again.

  9. A good piece, detailing team founder Lamar Hunt's son Clark, and his background, and the moves he made last year at the same time Wilson / Brandon "remade" the Bills. Quite the turnaround from last year's KC disasters.

    http://www.nytimes.c...agewanted=1

Obviously it would be better for us at this moment if the article were, instead, about the remarkably effective makeover in Buffalo but alas..... we have longer to wait for our gratification, it would seem. I will happily take a long-term Marrone & Manuel success story over their 8-0 start.

Bills are 5-1 at home vs. KC for last six games; earning a W this Sunday would mean a lot more to this team than simply moving that number to 6-1.

  10. It's definitely a feel-good piece from Chris Brown; having said that, I am not sure whether to give the analysis more or less credence given his 'inside' position...

Sure hope he's spot on, though, and they continue to ramp up the good plays while they work on eliminating the bad.

Imagining how it will feel if they can pull off this game is kind of like figuring out what to do when you win the lottery.

  11. Did anyone else notice the spectacular grab / spot by Moorman on the second Field Goal ( I think) ? Snap was to the right of his knee but he snagged it and got it down... nicely.

Feels good to have him back. Maybe Marrone will let him try a few more of the fakeouts that he's had success with in the past, both on punt and FG attempts.

  12. OJ will some day find Nicole's true killer.

And when Rich Stadium was up for re-naming, instead of "The Ralph" it should have been "The Nicole Brown Simpson Memorial Stadium."

Any town that can celebrate Scotty Norwood upon the team's return to Buffalo can do the right thing by Nicole's memory...

  13. Thanks for posting this; did I miss it or is it brandy-new?

and, Marrone in the hot tub w/ the players? Somehow I never pictured it happening quite like that. I never shared a shower room with a coach much less a tubbywubby.

Ya' think Belicheat and Marcia hang in the tub? maybe with Giselle bringing them nibblies, ice cloths, and San Pellegrinos?

  14. Can we please mix in some screen plays?? We were one of the best screen teams last year and this year nothing.. Get Spiller in space please.

Seriously, if there was one play that Captain Chan clearly excelled at conceptualizing, it was the screen. No matter the announcer last year, they all couldn't rave enough about the design and execution of the screens, from QB to OL to RB... and even the WRs blocking.

Spiller yes, good in space, and did well with the screens.

FredEx I would argue was even better, with his magical slide around his OLinemen executing blocks, and his sixth sense of where the tacklers are...

I have not catalogued our offensive plays this year, so I might have missed something, but I can tell you absolutely for sure that I personally have not seen one screen play attempted yet.

Maybe Fred and CJ can draw one up from memory for Hackett?

  15. Is this a good time to ask about the notion of CJ & FredEx on the field together? This has been an oft-mentioned but seldom, if ever, really analyzed idea in terms of specific matchups going into a game. Not even pretending to have a football player/coach bone in my body, I can only ask the leading question!

To my eye, Freddy is so good at blocking / blitz pickup when necessary that this combination, whether in the backfield or one/both split out, might be a useful counter to the NY blitz schemes...and I don't think we've seen them on the field together yet this year.

Just askin', cuz I know some of you are capable of anal-izing this...

  16. Stadiums with a view

    Gillette

    Lincoln Financial

    Mile High

    Cleveland

    LP Field

    CenturyLink Field

    Raymond James

    Paul Brown

    Heinz Field

Seem just about any new open air stadium, they've left a portion out to allow views. And you could debate that Indy, Houston, Dallas, and Arizona also do since they all contain a "wall of windows".

I am quite sure that I would have to examine all of the alternatives pretty carefully before I said I was for or against a waterfront stadium in Buffalo. However, I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that, without really knowing what the other stadia on your list have "a view" of, I can tell you that there is absolutely no "view" in Foxboro.... just one end of the stadium that has sort of an open end. From inside you can't tell at all what's out there, nor would you care about it anyway 'cuz the place is truly out in the boonies. Gilette is the absolute opposite of what's been discussed in this thread so far in terms of a waterfront stadium.
