You don't perhaps think that mid-season is a tad early to start drafting threads for potential 7th round draft picks?
The only reason I brought this up now is that this is a little known guy who quietly broke the NCAA single game rushing record THIS week. It is almost old news. Odds are this guy will be completely forgotten about come spring.

A draft pick? Absolutely not. Every year they bring in small school RBs, I don't see why this guy wouldn't get a look somewhere though.
Considering their 2012 draft picks for rounds 5-7, he is just as good of bet.

Octavias McKoy - 1st year playing RB as a Senior. Was a converted DB after floating around in Juco for poor grades. Yes its D-III, but the guy is truly a one man wrecking crew, especially the last 3 games.

Section 2 Touchdown
TOUCHDOWN PLAYS
Article 1 Touchdown Plays. A touchdown is scored when:
(a) the ball is on, above, or behind the plane of the opponents’ goal line and is in possession of a runner who has
advanced from the field of play; or
(b) a ball in possession of an airborne runner is on, above, or behind the plane of the goal line, and some part of the ball
passed over or inside the pylon; or
© a ball in player possession touches the pylon, provided that, after contact by an opponent, no part of the player’s
body, except his hands or feet, struck the ground before the ball touched the pylon; or
(d) any player who is legally inbounds catches or recovers a loose ball (3-2-3) that is on, above, or behind the opponent’s
goal line; or
(e) the Referee awards a touchdown to a team that has been denied one by a palpably unfair act.
SUPPLEMENTAL NOTES
(1) The ball is automatically dead when it is in legal possession of a player and is on, above, or behind the opponent’s
goal line.
(2) The player is attempting to catch a pass, the ball is not dead, and a touchdown is not scored, until the receiver
completes the catch. See Rule 3, Section 2, Article 7.
A.R. 11.1 Third-and-goal on B2. Runner A1 goes to the goal line with the ball over the plane of the goal line. He is tackled, fumbles,
and the defensive team recovers in the end zone.
Ruling: Touchdown. The ball is automatically dead at the instant of legal player possession on the opponent’s goal line.
A.R. 11.2 Second-and-10 on B18. Runner A1 takes handoff and runs down the sideline toward the goal line with the ball in his
outside arm. He crosses the goal line plane standing and gets his left foot down in the end zone with the ball to the
outside of the pylon.
Ruling: Touchdown. Part of the ball crossing over or inside the pylon only applies to an airborne runner who lands out of
bounds.

I made this prior to the Cincy game.
The question is should you be including the injured players. Had they been healthy, would the following people have made the roster:
1. Brad Smith (possible)
2. Matt Caussin (most likely not)
3. Kevin Elliott (most likely not)
4. Carrington (yes)
5. Hairston (yes)

After the release of Colin Brown, excluding players on injured reserve, only 27 players remain of the 53 players on the roster last season (28 if you include Moorman - but he was released). That means that effectively half the team from last year is gone. People are bashing the front office, however the only way to "change" a culture is to truly change it. Marrone is not taking crap from anyone and it is showing. If you look at the 27 who remain, most deserve to be here and I wouldn't be surprised for the one that doesn't, Marrone will weed out prior to year end:
The 27:
RB (3) - Spiller, Jackson, Choice
WR (3) - Johnson, Graham, Easley (he was with organization)
TE (2) - Chandler, Smith
OL (6) - Glenn, Pears, Sanborn, Welch, Wood, Urbik
DL (4) - Williams, Williams, Dareus, Ross
LB (2) - Bradham, Moats
CB (5) - Gilmore, McKelvin, Brooks, Williams, Rogers
S(2) - Byrd, Searcy
Of the above - I wouldn't be surprised if Rogers is gone prior to year end. The rest of the fringe players (Brooks, Easley, Lee Smith, Welch and Ross) have all played well this season.
Without getting into the rest of the roster, the only other cut that needs to be made if Marrone is smart is Danny Crossman.

Who is going to wear #8 - Moorman or Tuel...
Or more importantly - Will Tuel make it through the day? If Lewis is starting, I wouldn't be surprised if White is on the roster by noon...

Everyone believes that Manuel is the future of this franchise... however...
If Tuel goes off and I mean really goes off on the Patriots (75% completion rating, 350+ yds, 4 TDs), do we have a QB controversy or does Manuel get the reigns back in week 2?

Willing to bet TJax over Kolb. I think he is the better QB for the Hackett offensive scheme. Question is, when TJax starts (at least the first few games), does Kolb even make the roster.

This is great research, but clearly is meaningless as there appears to be no correlation to winning with 1st picks or even 1st round picks for that matter, otherwise Cinci and Detroit would be Super Bowl regulars.

Pure pocket passer with all of the physical gifts (6'6" 245). Heavily recruited out of high school and dropped out of 2 major programs due to alcohol related issues (True Freshman QB in Virginia in 2007 and Oregon State). May be worth a 7th.

I have been quiet this season, but I am getting frustrated with all of the various posts regarding Wanny, Chan and Nix, so here is my view...
Nix - Everyone is blaming him for not putting together a team. The fact of the matter is he delivered on his part. He brought in the talent to put together a winning franchise. The team has 3 premier defensive lineman, a strong secondary and an average at best linebacking core. Offensively, they have 2 of the best RBs in the league running behind a stellar offensive line, the receiving core is better than average, Chandler has been a solid TE and Fitz is adequate at best (what ever happened to TJax - Gailey????). It is not his fault that this team is 3-5... However pending what he does with the other 2 - that could dictate whether he stays or goes...
Wanny - How is this guy a defensive coordinator in the NFL? He has taken a defense absolutely loaded with talent and turned them into a laughing stock... This defense is materially worse than last year, yet talent wise is significantly better. He is the most unimaginative coordinator out there. They play a ridiculously soft zone, that is beyond pathetic. They never blitz (or even stunt for that matter). People are blaming Williams... its not his fault. The scheme is horrible. This guy should have been gone in week 5...
Chan - He is a bit of an enigma
1. He is not a head coach, offensive coordinator maybe, but not a head coach.
2. I don't know where he gets this "offensive mastermind" title as his playcalling is average at best and he makes a lot of bonehead decisions. Dump the wildcat already, it fails everytime... How about running more often - put the ball in the hands of your best players....
3. His offensive scheme is not why we are 3-5. His general offensive scheme works with the talent we have (his playcalling is shotty, but the scheme itself works) and as bad as Fitz has played again it hasn't been horrible
4. If we had a shred of defense we could easily be 5-3, if not better and then Chan's offense is looked at in a different light.
With that being said Chan is not the right guy to run this team. IMO, Nix needs to fire Wanny today, give Chan the back half of season to redeem himself (and by that I mean running the table and ending 10-6) or we need a whole to Coaching staff for 2013...

I have actually thought the replacement refs have been significantly better than the regular refs in the past 2 weeks (I can't say the same around the league, as I have not watched every game). They ruled correctly on all of the close calls on the field. I agree the ball spots are not as tight, but there have been way less ticky-tack calls - the only one is the phantom pass interference - and I have seen way worse calls than that by the pros. They are basically letting the guys play football and also seem to be calling the games evenly on both sides (which the pro refs seem never to do).

Like everyone else, I am extremely frustrated from Sunday. However as bad as everyone played, the game was surprisingly still in reach until a single coaching error... the onside kick (which is really bothering me)...
The Bills trailed 41-7 and then came back to make it 41-28 in what everyone was calling mop-up time. The reality is the team had a lot of momentum and had 7 minutes on the clock. At this point, the play is to kick deep... Why - if the Bills can hold them to a 3 and out (2 min gone) or at worst a 6 and out (4 min gone), they will get the ball with time to play. The Jets would have been running a conservative offense and playing to run out the clock. Had they done and got the touchdown (assume even with only a minute on the clock). They now trail by 6 and go for the onside kick...
What's the difference you might ask? In what the Bills did, the Jets still had confidence as it truly was "mop up" time. They lead by 13, they have all the confidence in the world... no one is dropping that ball... If its a 6 point lead and the Bills have all of the momentum... now the Jets are thinking we might blow a 34 point lead and lose... As soon as you think you are going to lose... you will lose...
That is why the Bills of the 90s won (and lost SB 2-4)... the Patriots* of the 00s win and the Bills of the 00s lose... If you have doubt in your mind... you lose. If you know you are going to win... you'll win... Its a confidence game and Gailey blew the call.

Have you guys seen the gangrene play offense? They haven't scored a TD yet... ANY UNIT! They make Jauron look like Bill Walsh. Merely improving our run D will be enough to put them away. Their receivers can't catch, Keller is gimpy and we have a D-line built to keep Tebow in the pocket, making him the 4 interception, one dimensional player that he is. And don't tell me they're not gonna play him when the chorus of boo's comes raining down on Sanchez. They'll be down big, late, and replace him with TT. That will serve to open the proverbial can-of-worms with regards to the QB situation.
Have you guys been watching Freddy run? He is gonna be amazing this year. I'd say 115 yds and 2 scores on opening day. He looks smooth and fast. We now have capable back-ups and other uniquely skilled weapons with a creative coach. It all rests on Fitz. Don't turn the ball over, win games. But this matchup is a nightmare for New Jersey, they'll be a 5 win team this year... and that's if they over produce.
Have you noticed all of our purged players getting axed by other teams ? What's that say about our GM?

Everyone is voicing so much concern about keeping John Potter, yet no one ever is against keeping Ruvell Martin or Corey McIntyre because they are Specialists. Here is the reality - by keeping Potter it actually opens up roster spots. For kickoffs, NFL teams dislike using their good players as there is a significant increased risk in injury (punts don't have the set up as a kickoff), therefore teams need 10 quality players for kick coverage. By having Potter, you eliminate the need for these 10 players and roster spots on players such as McIntyre, could be used elsewhere. One would argue that most of these people are also on punt coverage, but that actually isn't entirely true given the nature of the play (you may have 5-6 players overlapping).

You are heavy on the receivers (figure 5) 6 max (with #6 being Ruvell Martin if they keep 6), Roosevelt Gone. Very light on the Line, figure Brown and Young the additions. They will only carry 2 TEs - Chandler and Smith. Defensively I still don't understand why people keep writing off Dwan Edwards - he will make the team over Heard. One of Dickerson/Heard/Carrington will be kept... all depends on the direction Gailey wants to go. McGee makes it over Carder (who will be PS).

Had it not been for Van Pelt, that 2001 team would have been materially worse. I have to go with the 85 Bills. You can't beat the Ferragamo/Mathison Combo - could be one of the worst QB displays as a team of all time.

One other note - of the 11 starters on the 90 Bills drafted in rounds 1&2, only Leonard Smith was never elected to a Pro-bowl...

I get aggravated every time I read the Johnson/Flutie posts. The reality is the following - Flutie was a winner, regardless of the stats, he won football games. Winners find a way to win. Some of the best QBs of all time were not pretty, but they were winners (Montana, Bradshaw, now Russell Wilson, etc). In addition, he elevated the play of everyone around him. I honestly think that had Flutie not been exiled, he would have won a Super Bowl at some point in his career. He, IMO, is the 3rd best qb to dress in a Bills uniform.
Johnson, on the other hand, was a loser. He lost. He always found a way to lose. He is the most sacked QB in NFL history and had no business being an NFL qb.
I am hoping that EJ turns out to be a winner, but I am becoming ever more skeptical. And for people who keep comparing him to Cam Newton - Cam Newton puts up great stats especially in fantasy, but he too is not a winner.
