ESPN reports VY released by Bills
-
We now have a clue.....the Bills negotiating with Tavares Jackson.....both bu candidates look to be gone!

I think there is a chance that McKelvin may end back up on the outside....I am not yet believer in Williams...I see him as a younger Draton Florence, can't run to cover, but can hit and anticipate/make big plays. Willaims will get torched by speed guys this year, because of his lack of speed. McKelvin got torched last year because of not making the play on the ball, not that they outran him. (recalling Dez Bryant going over his head for a TD) I too am a McKelvin supporter....but it is likely they will not resign him for the money he will get in free agency. They have already made outher plans, as we can see by the roster. (same moves they made the year before Winfield and Clements hit the free agent market)

Vince Young is physically talented, so was Losman with his big arm. But, both have question marks about their ability to do the mental part of the game. And, you will not see Chan allowing an offense to play sandlot football. Fitz Harvard brain is part of the appeal, he knows all the complexity, and can apparently do the quick recall/reads that allow him to pull the strings as the O is designed. Thats why he got the big contract. We can all see his arm is like adequate, not great. The Bills need to make the playoffs, period. This is the NFL, 3 years is the norm.
I like Vince Young. We will see.

They are men, not machines, and yes, they do need motivation. That would be very scary for me as a Bills fan if these professional athletes at the NFL level need that to motivate or focus them.

Nope, sold our four seats to some guys from Pittsburg, and will watch on local TV instead....we lucked out, did not know or think it would be televised!

Well, a newly signed player does not know your scheme, so he is dead wood until he learns the team systems. 2-6 weeks, depending on postion. And, if somebody gets hurt, just the brain deficit alone will hurt you. So, you have to be careful. You assess your rookies, and determine who is goig to be a great pro....they make the roster. Average to below average rookies get waived, and put on the practice squad for injury protection (and to develope them) But, they know your scheme, so if you sign them, they can play in a knowledgeable manner immediately. Similar comments, really on any practice squad eligible guy currently on the roster....so you can make use of those guys as backups in case of injury in addition to development and assessment purposes.
Anyhow, that has to be part, at least, of any roster stragedy, imo.

After watching him through two games, probabily yes.

Buddy also has a voice! Not sure how much input his assistants and coordinators have

No problem, I sold my tickets to the Steelers fans.No event at the Rogers center on Saturday again, enjoy your extra preseason game season ticket holders !!
Sincerely,
Russ Brandin

Not surprised here....retention could also be an issue....even if he did well, he may very well be gone next year. A younger guy under contract for a couple of years makes sense in that context as well. And Buddy, keep rolling the dice.....some of these trys will work out. Merriman was a class act (here), a pro....it just didn't work out.

Hairston was not great, or even good, at LT last year. He played, but gave up a lot......a high draft choice to put in instead of him seemed right to me.There should be no second guessing this pick. Offensive and Defensive lines are where good teams start from, and without which other talent will not succeed. Even if he is merely good, or average, a 2nd round pick on a LT who can start in the NFL is a good deal. Not to mention - as someone else has - we have Hairston, who played good enough at LT a year ago. These guys will get better, too. So, the overall picture is a Bills O-line with a LOT of young talent. That will make being a contender, and staying one, over the next 4 or 5 years, easier.
Keep in mind - Hairston started sufficiently well last year. Our front office thinks Glenn is better than Hairston. So - it should equate to having a good LT. Wait and see, I guess, but my money is on Glenn performing well. This staff seems to be able to evaluate college talent much better than in years past. We're passing on guys who other teams snatch up and whiff on, while we're taking guys who look good, that other teams have passed on.

I saw White make a great deep drop to defend a pass against a tight end last week.......something I did not see all night from anybody tonight. White played 4-3 middle in college, and I would not rule him out, even if he didn't go to Pitt.I was thinking of the backups, wouldn't be surprised to see Morrison get cut so we can develop the youngsters. McKillup, White and Batten were cracking skulls in there, Tank was decent too.

Sheppard is the MLB now, not Barnett. Even though Sheppard hasn't shown anything, I think that Barnett is too small to play MLB. The teams future MLB may not be on the team yet.
I think McKelvin has a ways to go to reclaim a starting position and Gilmore has played well for a rookie and will only get better. McGee can't stay healthy and may be cut outright but if not he is in a dogfight with Brooks for the nickel because Brooks has looked pretty good and, as a rookie, has a high upside.
I think the DL is solid but I am concerned that there doesn't seem to be a run stuffing DT. I thought it would be Dareus but he is really more of a penetrator like Williams, IMO. With no run stuffer, everyone trying to penetrate on every down and a weak MLB this team will be vulnerable to the run. Think the Colts during the Tony Dungy era.
Gilmore seems to be a cover no tackle guy like Deion Sanders of yesteryear, don't like the way he gets blocked everytime he should be in the pursuit. The only turnover the db's got last night was the fumble that McKelvin stripped from the receiver, that has to change. But, the db's were not in position to do that for the most part. But, I think we have to do the OJT (on the job training) with the young guys (Gilmore, Brooks, Williams, and yes McKelvin) and go with it. McGee was a player, but isn't back physically, and will never have his old speed back.
-
Actually, I think he was a safety at Texas! When did you see Aaron Williams play FS? Was that his school position? I thought he was always a CB.
-
Only $1.35 million against the cap this year. Definitely a financial decision given that Florence was the better back.
You must not have seen the games I saw last year. Florence got burned seriously numerious times last year, he had lost his speed as he has gotten older. He made plays, but got burned a lot. Releasing him was right. McKelvin can run with the best of them, but doesn't make plays on the ball...that could turn around in a heartbeat. Williams is a gamer like florence, but a little slow in coverage...Brooks or McKelvin have the physical tools to supplant him. We will see....and yes, this crew is short on experience
-
Troup hasn't shown anything, waived injured may be his fate. PUP means there is an on going chance of success.
-
I was there....did not notice him at all except for the face mask/holding penality. You want somebody to notice in the new guys, watch R Brooks!!
-
Well, the injury thing might end his career, but his on field performance was OK last Thursday night...he had some speed and burst. But, whether he can actually play regularly after two years off is another question.....I say his chances are marginal. But, they need somebody?????
-
Was talking about Chris White the lb, but Johnny did great the other night alsoIdk what you mean with Ron Brooks being listed twice but I'm on the same Johnny White bandwagon as you... He looks mighty fast and that one juke move he did had me going crazy laughing... He just needs to be consistent... Let's see week 2 of preseason if he shows up...
-
First of all, we can only keep Ron Brooks once.........listed twice.
I think that White made a couple of plays that surprised me last Thursday night. He got a deep drop on a pass to the tight end that he knocked down......we need backers that can make that play, so he is still alive. Also, he was great last year on special teams until he got hurt....we will see.
-
I tried for the preseason last year, and we had $90 seats. But, the Bills prohibited listing for under $80....that is they set a minimum. Could not sell for the face value. So, be aware, the Biills prevent discounting so they can sell more full admissions.

Maybe they have changed the policy.

Cordy Glenn
First series. Cordy Glenn did not get beaten one time. One one set of downs where Fitzpatrick was sacked Glenn rode his man around Fitzpatrick but the QB held onto the ball and protection broke down around him and was sacked. On the third down play Glenn beat his assignment but the skins sent an extra defender and Glenn had to make a decision on which one to take. The one that Glenn didn’t take got a shot on Fitpatrick and the ball was incomplete on 3rd down.
2nd Series
Glenn once again did not get beaten in this set of downs….it should be noted that Fitz was NOT hanging onto the ball but Glenn’s assignment did not get past him which included a delayed blitz by London Fletcher which Cordy very nicely stayed at home on even though he was in space for a few seconds waiting. This should have been a touchdown series were it not for a very stupid alignment penalty.
3rd Series
Note: On the first down it looked like Cordy got turned sideways by the DE…..but maintained his balance and kept himself between the defender and Fitz. Did not get beat.
Glenn did not get beat on this series…..this is despite Orakpo trying to play with him moving around and not getting a stance…..also attempted a stunt which was picked up the the O line.
4th Series
On the first down Glenn gets beat outside…..first legit getting beat of the game for Glenn….Glenn uses his arm length to keep the defender away from Fitz despite being beat….the defender trys to knock the ball out of Fitz hand from behind as he is trying to pass but misses.
2nd down….gets called for the false start
5th Series
We are starting to seriously get into backup players but Glenn stays in the game…..finally some running plays (speaking of which…..not one run play with the starters and anyone who knows anything about O line play will tell you that you NEED to run the football for the offensive linemen….it gives them a chance to pound on the defense rather then take a pounding and always being in “defend” mode…..gotta do it it Chan.
On the 2nd down of the series the whistle is blown dead and Glenn relaxes…..had it been a live play a defender would have beaten Glenn to the inside and killed the QB. Other then that did not get beat on the series.
I am going to break this off at this point because its not really fair to evaluate Cordy Glenn without having Levitre next to him……having Asper there isn’t really fair atthat point. Basically…..I saw him get beat one time (which did not result in a negative play….and he took 1 play off due to a blown whistle that did not result in a negative play. Besides those 2 plays he held his assignments.
Man..were you at the same game I was at???? On the first play in the first series, Glenn was a statue as Orapko had a clean shot into Fitz......Glenn did not recognize he had to get over and get a piece of him.......
