  1. Smith is a utility type player, does all sorts of things for the team. WR, special teams, QB, etc etc. He is not unlike his predicessors on the Bills in other decades. Tasker from the glory years, and going way back, Eddie Rutkowski also did the same thing. (yeh, the same guy that was Erie County Exec) I think Smith is a little bit overpaid at $4mil per year

  2. If Fred is healthy, he will make the team next year as well. One of the reasons Spiller is excelling is that he doesn't have to take all the pounding. Fred shares the pain, and is the prefered back in short yardages apparently. Don't worry folks, NIX/Gailey will handle the situation. AND, its not all about the numbers. Fred is an important part of the chemistry of the team, and that doesn't show in the numbers. Now, you might ask about Morman in that context, and I do wonder about that.

  3. This is a great question. And Potter did not consistently hit it out of the park last week either. I am guessing that Lindells leg is not longer up to the NFL standard on kickoffs, and there is not choice here, with the Bills paying for Lindells experience/reliability in field goals with an extra roster spot. And, just maybe, Potter takes over the field goal duties next year. We will see.....but we are on the outside looking in. I am sure that Nix/Gailey have a gameplan here.

  4. Great comments on the game. My additional comment. Spiller is great, a better long threat than Jackson. And, he is getting more rounded in all facits of the game. But, Fred has a role here, it takes two to be adequately covered in the NFL. I would shade the touches to Spiller were I the coach, with the thought being more home run plays will occur. INstead of 50/50, I would start with 60/40 favoring Spiller. the former #1 is looking all of that now!

  5. Actually, if we were going to see somebody when the real bullets are flying, I would prefer to see what T Jackson could do. He has been here 6 weeks now, and should not be the neophyte he was with one week of study. We might find out something if we did that, not going to learn anything putting Smith in there, he is not a full time NFL QB.

Smioth is really a Steve Tasker type....special teams, receiver, some QB....or going back another generation, an Eddie Rutkowski type.

  6. Whenever some of your draft picks work out reasonably well, and the team wins a few, the guys whose contract is up at yearend have leverage. Byrd plays really well at times, and is a keeper. But, Levitre and Urbik are also in that league. Nix can't afford to overpay any one guy (well, maybe one), because he has to keep the whole team together within a reasonable NFL salary structure. That is under the cap rules...that foster parity within the NFL. It might happen that a great young safety is worth more to one club than another....or any other good player in a contract year as well. I believe that Nix knows how to handle this stuff with the help of the money guy in Detroit (who isn't the devil, totally anyhow) So, I hope these great players remain Bills, but I don't want overpayment on an emotional basis based on one good game. I do admit, he is the only producer in the db crop. Nobody else has gotten gamewinning plays. Have expected the safeties to do some of that, but have been disappointed.

  7. I was really hoping the Bills would have drafted Cousins this year...since it was apparent they weren't going to draft a QB early...I don't think anyone could have predicted the Redskins grabbing him...I like him. At this point though, it seems like anyone donning a Bills jersey is a "career back-up", even if they are a "starter" in name only.

Cousins looked pretty goood at the preseason game at the Ralph this year!
  8. Wilson is worse in coverage than Whitner and that is saying a lot.

I would rather see A. Williams moved to safety. Play a mostly two deep coverage scheme with McKelvin at CB until they are eliminated from the playoff race then start a healthy Brooks down the stretch.

This is a really good idea, occured to me also. Williams hasn't shown CB cover skills, but does hit. He did play some safety at Texas!
  9. I'm guessing that Jackson isn’t picking up the offense as quickly as Chan had hoped he would and that is why he’ll stay at #3 for the season. That and because Brad Smith has been working more with the WRs due to the lack of depth/talent there.

    Yes he was.

I am guessing that if Jackson doesn't pickup the offense this year, he will not be resigned. VY's problem was between the ears, and perhaps Jackson has some of that as well. Stay tuned! We do have a Harvard man starting, with his big brain!!!
  10. You can't have a quarterback that throws 7 interceptions in 2 division games. Can't fumble on the goal line. Can't allow opposing team to score on 6 consecutive drives.

My view is that 3 of those were situational driven. The tip isn't a bad throw.....its an unfortunate play that happens. The last two were really after the game was way out of reach...he was trying to make a play when it wasn't there. A long incompletion would have been better, but at that stage he had to try to force something to happen. More bothersome to me that the int statistics were me misses on the long throws. Other than the long one to Fred, Fitz missed short two or three times and long once on the home run ball. He has to hit that some...and he didn't THAT is my real concern!!!!!
  11. Well, I am not soooo pesimistic as the group here. Of the four ints yesterday, the first was a deflection, def line hit it, and it turned into a floater. The last two were already after the game was out of hand, and he force the throws to make something happen. So, the INT's don't bother me so much...one bad one in my view. However, his long throws were off all day, and that is the source of my discontent with Fitz for yesterday, not the stat line. He also made some great throws to Chandler and Fred. He may not be top, but he is not bottom either.

  12. The Bills have to beat some good teams to get to the playoffs...that would mean they are a good team and deserve to be in the playoffs. Good analysis here, bottom up type thinking.....my view is top down....same answer. You have to win against good teams to have a good record that kits the playoffs. I, for one, think they have a chance to do 2 or 3 wins in this stretch, and if its 3, playoffs are stll alive.
