  1. There is no doubt that their team will be worse than if they didn't make the trade, for the next few years. They will have to wait 2 years for the pick, and then they will have to wait 2-3 years for that player to develop (if he does at all).

better yet, why don't you write a book and title it "how not to make the playoffs in the nfl for 10 years in the era of the salary cap and free agency, and still have the owner get into the hall of fame". I'm sure with your jounalistic genius, you can come up with a better title

  2. Seymour didn't "fit their system?" LOL! He WAS their system. This is a big loss for the Pats, and while the Raiders got fleeced with a 1st rounder, as I said, it's in 2011. The Pats will need all the good picks they can get by then since the team will be a shell of its former self.

I hate the patriots as much as anyone, but can you remember any personnel decision they've made in the last 10 years that hasn't worked out and kept them at the top of the division. maybe warnow can tell us what mr. wilson thinks about this situation

  3. Gee, you think that's why Peyton Manning has been so successful for the Colts all these years, including having a SB WINNING ring on his finger, while Rivers has quite a ways to go yet? I feel sorry for Rivers, and every other QB out there that has to memorize those 60 plus plays with different formations and packages and schemes. Rivers certainly seems to do pretty damn good at it, looking at his stats from last year. But Jim Kelly is in the Hall of Fame, and lost 4 consecutive SB's. Obviously, the voters were forced to look at his entire body of work beyond those 4 mostly bad games. He ran about 6 plays, as Manning said, PERFECTLY, for so many years out of that no-huddle, that he was able to convince the HOF voters he deserved membership. And in order to lose 4 straight SB's, you have to be 4-0 in 4 straight Conference Championship games. Rivers has to get his Chargers into those games and win a few of them, before he can hope to gain as much overall success as Kelly and Manning. It's an interesting debate. If asked, I'll bet Dan Marino and John Elway would tell you their offenses were much simpler then what the ego-maniacial OC's are forcing down the throats of today's lesser talented QB's in the NFL.

good post, but I believe the bottom line is that a successful offense's biggest asset is talent. Marv said during the SB days that systems don't win games, players do

  4. Nothing is more demoralizing then to know what is coming and not be able to stop it.

I'm not disagreeing with Kelly and Manning on this one, but wasn't the biggest criticism of Fairchild's offense is that it was too simple and too predictable, and he was run out of town

and the time it takes Manning to call changes at the line, and the all the shifts they do, I would say Indy's offense is pretty complicated

  5. A fight is far different than a sucker punch.

I've seen players sucker punch people during the game. they get kicked out of the game, or a penalty, but not a season suspension. like I said, the idiots in the media created this circus

  6. well, at least you've finally realized what i do for a living. good for you.

and yes, you're absolutely right, how could i have been so mistaken. hardly a game goes by in which a player slugs an opposing player on the field after a game and then starts shoving his own teammates attempting to calm him down, and then upon leaving said field, gets it from the crowd and needs to be physically restrained by no more than three people, including a police officer, and nearly dragged into the locker room.

    yes, i've seen this often.

happens all the time and forever. this tradition in fact began with Michigan back in the 1900s, so it's good to see Mr. Blount proceeding ahead and carrying the torch.

and no, i didn't major in english. the beer was good, though.

maybe you should go ask mr. wilson what to think

so all the bench clearing brawls that have happened in football over the last 10 years ( I assume you've seen them) should have resulted in entire teams being suspended for the season. are you a man or or a woman, because you sure do argue like as girl

  8. as one of those aforementioned "idiots," i happened to be at the Big Tree with a colleague watching the game that night, and happened to see the post-game circus unfold.

as an "idiot" does, i turned to my colleague and we discussed the possibility that Blount just might be suspended, though we didn't envision the entire season. we though had no 24-hour news cycle to fill and elected to keep our thoughts to ourselves and the bartender.

so, long story short, i don't think we had anything to do with the suspension or blowing anything out of proportion.

but thanks for thinking of us.

here we go again, another guy in the media heard from. never mind espn and every network in the country was blathering on about this endlessly yesterday. this is something that has been happening on football fields forever, and now that it makes the news, this kid gets suspended for the season because of all the faux outrage from a bunch of dufus's who majored in english and drinking beer in college

  9. Is this a serious question?

Physical violence is not an appropriate reaction to verbal baiting. The guy who punches loses the mental battle and is the bigger idiot here, IMO. He could have walked a way, or said something about the other dude's sister. Better yet, shake his hand and show himself a better man.

But the punching choice is way more entertaining for us. So that's something.

BTW, here's a link that works (at least for now):

the whole game is about entertaining people with physical violence. every year, kids punch each other, take each others knees out, get paralyzed, etc etc etc. but in todays 24 hour news cycle, the idiots in the media need something to talk about, so this situation gets blown out of proportion

  10. Some of you guys are unbelievable!

You'd think that supposed "fans" would have an appreciation for someone that works as closely with the team as John coming on here and providing us with information directly from the source, but nitwits like you guys need to tear it down and act afool as though your opinion supercedes all relevant facts.

Here's a newsflash, dopes, John works for the AP, not the team. He can report whatever the facts are and not have to worry about the organization's feelings. Which means you should take what he says as fact, or at least his honest impression of what went on.

Instead, you guys are defiant in the face of responsible reporting, going so far as to use words like "loser" and suggesting the guy will end up homeless. You people disgust me, seriously.

Go find a giant toilet and flush yourselves.

Sorry John. I know you don't need me to defend you, but as a former AP guy myself, I can't take this garbage.

so he works for the media huh, I guess that makes him an expert on everything

  11. funny, i get to see the games for free and get paid to be here, which i guess makes you the sucker in this equation.

though why you follow this team with an owner you so much dislike is beyond me, which i guess makes you even a bigger sucker.

but please, come back for more, because i'm definitely amused and looking forward to how much lower you can go in further degenerating this thread with your mean-spirited accusations.

so basically you're saying that because you have a job with a loser organization working for a loser owner, everything is super. you better hope hope ralph lives forever, because when he goes, I doubt working for the buffalo bills is going to look all that great on your resume. i guess you should start thinking about making that "will work for food" sign

  12. to make a long story, ahem, short ... if you read my posts in this thread, that's exactly what i've been saying. and yet posters have persisted to lay all/most of the blame on Mr. Wilson while overlooking other factors.

    jw

they lay the blame on wilson because it's the truth. your arguments have been reduced to mindless name calling and girly comebacks. Ralph got lucky and fell into a pot of gold, all while building an organization that has lost more than it has won. But like any child, you always think it's someone else's fault, or come up with an excuse. Ralph had several winning systems in the past (Saban, Knox, and Polian), and always managed to screw them up. So keep making whiny excuses for him, while people spend their hard earned money on an inferior product, all because our joke of an owner can't get along with people, or manage his way out of a paper bag

  13. I don't even know where to start with you people trying to argue that he's a good QB based on a 4 game stretch. JP Losman had more touchdowns in his first year starting than Trent has in his entire career. Your moronic thinking would lead to JP being the better QB.

Let's ignore the fact that the Vikings have been trying to find an alternative at QB every year that he's been there. I'm sure that means nothing. After the 4 game performance that so many of you are now annointing him better than Trent, his coach and front office went and TRADED for a new starting QB, and THEN upgraded again in signing Favre. Your amazing QB is now 3rd on the depth chart and they're listening to offers to dump his azz.

But that doesn't matter, his stats in 4 games make him unstoppable!!!!

    JP is a better QB
