  1. Thanks for that post - I was too lazy to look it up and this gives me a reference -- I don't know anything about these guys except Campbell was a workout warrior - I doubt we take any of these in rd #3. How about Brandon Spikes!!

Pulling for Campbell myself but i doubt he'll be around by our pick...

  2. Does anyone know who is left at this position?

    Best Available Offensive Tackles

    Charles Brown OT USC

    Bruce Campbell OT MARYLAND

    Edwin Veldheer OT HILLSDALE

    Selvish Capers OT W VIRGINIA

Edward Wang OT VA TECH *************Wang Levitre & Wood

    Tony Washington OT AB CHRISTIAN

    Jason Fox OT MIAMI

  3. don't know if any of you saw it or if this was posted earlier, but it was awesome! Forget tehe QB's, I really wish he was our coach! Dude was the man. Made me like Colt McCoy a bit better as well. I thought Clausen came off the worst too

Anyone have a link to the video on ESPN? Or anyone know when they will replay it? Thx.

  4. The only part I don't get is where the second rd 2 pick comes from. I get that if we're lucky we could trade #9 for a 1st and a 2nd, but where does the other 2nd come from?

And if Clausen's available at #9 and we already have Gaither do you pass on him?

You're right, the OP created an extra 2nd rd pick. We currently only have one, and in this scenario you trade it to B'more, leaving us w/ zero. Then you trade down, and get a lower 1st and a 2nd (which brings us back to having 1 2nd rd pick...).

To answer your question Re: Claussen, I wouldn't but then again Clausen is like Tebow -- Everyone has a strong opinion one way or the other.

  5. The great part about the article I think is this quote:

Our analysis pivots around the idea that while there is an active trading market for N.F.L. draft picks, the market places too high a value on picking early. A team that wants to select a player before its turn can offer another team a deal in order to “trade up.” Over time, teams have come to agree on the price of such trades by resorting to a table now universally known as the Chart, which assigns a value to each pick in the draft. Alas, the Chart has the “wrong” prices.

How many times has someone posted on TBD, "We should trade up to X pick by giving up Y & Z picks so that we can pick Such-and-Such Left Tackle," to which some condescending a ss clown inevitably replies, "You Idiot, we need to give up more than that because the chart says this...Didn't you consult 'the chart'?...we need to add on next year's 6th because then the trade is fair"

I love it when those guys are wrong... Good article by the Times.

  6. $1,964,352,452.00

That is the total salary of the NFL, The Players Union is crazy...

Do you happen to have the total profit for the owners? Its kind of silly to have a discussion calling the players greedy if we don't know how much the Presidents, GMs, Coaches, Owners, and all the rest of the NFL machine make off of these players... I'm not defending either side's demands but you have to consider that without players there is no league.

From the owners perspective you have to consider what you invest in your team versus alternate uses for your cash. Jerry Jones just built a billion dollar behemoth in Dallas for his team to play in -- he wouldn't have shelled out that kind of money unless he thought he'd make it back and then some....

In the end, it seems a bit like mutually assured destruction / game of chicken. Players need the owners to run the business side, owners need the players to put a product out on the field (and risk their health for your entertainment) -- you can't have one without the other...

I think there are ways to discuss the looming NFL lockout/strike/whatever without getting into a philosophical discussion of unions vs. owners...But then again, I suppose your opinion on any potential NFL strike might have a lot to do with which side of the owner/worker side of labor issues you fall...

Then again, if a strike shrinks the revenue pie enough, no matter what the revenue split is between players/owners both sides may end up getting less money--How did hockey revenues fare after they struck, or baseball back in 94-95? I actually don't know the answer to these questions but I do know that I stopped caring about baseball after that strike....maybe just a coincidence...

    Anyway, just food for thought...

  7. Thanks for the update.

Any color on the new regime's opinion of Brohm? Any hope that he can compete for the starting spot/backup? I noticed you said they would most likely be bringing in another QB -- That seems like a pretty strong indication they aren't very high on Brohm...or am I reading too much into your post?

  8. People are making too much of nothing. If the Bills marketing dept. was so bad the stadium would be empty game days. Marketing is one area where the Bills excel.

    PTR

Well, their excuse, which i agree with: Moorman is not only a good player, but a good guy off the field, so they wanted to highlight that. I guess the issue is, why pick *that* game which was one of the most awful displays of offensive futility EVER to highlight your ex-pro-bowl punter?

And why pick a picture where you're kicking out of your own end-zone, surely there are good pictures of Moorman kicking from the 20 or 30yrd line... (excuse #2: Getting a picture of the punter kicking out of the end-zone is the best angle to highlight said player since he's presumably closest to the photographer)

    Either way...funny...

  9. Did anyone else see this:

    https://sites.google.com/site/thempsproject...e-buffalo-bills

    Also on PFT: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...o-in-ticket-ad/

Apparently this shows up on people's brochures to renew their season tickets: A picture of Brian Moorman punting out of his own end-zone in a game the Bills will eventually lose 6-3 to the god-awful Cleveland Browns...

    Awesome! :nana:

(I searched for a duplicate topic, but if this has been covered already in another post, feel free to merge...)

  10. You don't know we can't take him or Tebow. QB Heisman winners have never won a SB and most of them have little success in hte NFL maybe Palmer will break this curse some day.

    Roger Staubach:

    Heisman Winner 1964

Super Bowls VI and XII winner

Fun Fact: Staubach was named Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl VI becoming the first of four players to win the Heisman Trophy and Super Bowl MVP. Jim Plunkett, Marcus Allen, and Desmond Howard are the other three.

    EDIT...Jim Plunkett works too:

Jim Plunkett played quarterback for Stanford University, where he won the Heisman Trophy, and professionally for three National Football League teams: the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders. He led the Raiders to two Super Bowl victories (XV and XVIII).

Fun Fact: He is the only retired quarterback to start, and win, two Super Bowls who is not also in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

  11. Ryan Mallett.

...is going back to school for another year.

But there is something to be said for waiting until next year's draft class:

-Jake Locker (would probably need to finish near the very bottom of the league to even have a shot...)

    -Ryan Mallet

-Terrelle Pryor (I haven't been terribly impressed from the little i've seen, but I haven't seen too many ohio state games)

  12. From Football Outsiders:

    http://www.footballoutsiders.com/extra-poi...dings-2000-2009

There's nothing too groundbreaking here, but it's interesting to see all the stats in the same place.

Of particular interest was the standard deviation statistic they calculated. Our win total had a standard deviation of 1.71 which was the lowest in the league. The quote by the author:

Standard Deviation is the standard deviation (duh) of regular season wins for that team. Teams are ranked from most erratic (St. Louis, which started the decade in dominant fashion and ended as the worst team in the league) to most consistent (Buffalo, which was basically the same boring, C- team almost every year of the decade).
  13. Clausen is NOT a franchise guy. If he were a franchise guy we would be talking about him as a top five pick. It would be a waste of the 9 pick to pick either clausen or bradford. Neither one of them is that good, and we have a putrid offensive line that needs one of the two very good LT's that will be available at 9.

I probably forgot a few guys here, but plenty of "franchise guys" have been drafted outside the top 10...

  14. 1. C.J. Spiller, Electric with the ball.

    2. M. Johnson OT Ala. Talent at tackle is sorely needed.

    3. Dan Lefevour. QB CM. Big Kid used to the weather.

    4. Arthur Jones Syr. Maybe wishes do come true.

This is an interesting one, esp if we end up trading Lynch for someone/picks in the off-season... No one seems to be talking about Spiller, obviously it's not a need for the Bills, but the dude is going to be sick.

Of the choices you've given, my choices would be:

    1. Bulaga, but if you can trade down, pick up an extra 2nd/3rd & draft Cody later in the 1st...

    2. Ducasse (Depends on if Incognito is still here...)

    3. Jones/Washington - I'm sorry, but Buffalo cannot draft a guy named Norwood...Sorry.

    4. LeFevor, but I doubt he's there, I heard he had a good looking Senior Bowl and probably improved his draft position.

  15. Apparently Skelton looked like he needed some work (especially w/ respect to his footwork/mobility..). And I would be remiss if I didn't mention: Schottenheimer gets the win!

  16. I actually saw a mock that had the Bills taking Haden... over Williams, McClain, Campbell, Davis etc

    http://www.nfldraftdog.com/Mock-Drafts/201...mock-draft.html

I actually posted a thread about this exact thing! In anycase, i emailed the guy who runs that site and told him that we have glaring needs other than DB (we're like #30 vs. the run so perhaps some DT/DE/LBs?) and have been through what now, 10 different OL combos? So he's now switched us to OT...Anthony Davis (OT, Rutgers)

I actually kind of like the idea of Rolando McClain though...

  17. I'm not Carroll fan by any means, but I think (could be wrong) he took NE to the playoffs twice and improved by one game each in years two and three, there. I'd throw a full-blown hissy fit if he ever came to Buffalo, but I don't think he was an all-out bust with NE. I just think the guy's a jerk.

    Yup:

    1997: 10-6 - 1-1 in the playoffs

    1998: 9-7 - 0-1 in the playoffs

    1999: 8-8 - Missed Playoffs

    Career Record: 33-31

At least he has a winning record which is more than you can say for Dick Jauron (either pre-Bills or post-Bills), but then again that's not saying much.
