IIRC, it was 30M total spent between both (amazing for such a low-population State), and 25M would be a huge sum for the RNC et al to spend on a Senate seat in a heavily Republican State. Daschle stood out like the proverbial sore thumb in the South Dakota political constellation. I believe the large majority of the $ was from the DNC and their acolytes...his was a "defend at all costs" Senate seat...and he got unseated because the South Dakotans found fault with him.
