I work with the HR departments at a lot of the beltway bandits, and they are all looking for people pretty aggresively. Unfortunately most of the beltway bandits are hiring for contracts and rather than paying like a contractor they pretend the work is long term and pay the cheaper cost of an employee, benefits and layoff cost. I went through that period for a while. Ok if you have no other alternatives or want to take off time between contracts. Right now the government is big on forcing companies to reduce amount of money paid on contracts which has resulted in smaller raises, less promotions and many places pressure to replace higher level employees with lower level ones. Right now at work the government controllers has forced contractors to build jointly on contracts so they can reduce the number of employees and divert money allocated by congress into pet projects.
