"AROUND THE LEAGUE BROWNS: Robaire Smith, 29, signed a four-year contract. The defensive line was one of the Browns' biggest concerns this offseason, and both Robaire and Shaun Smith fit the team's 3-4 defense. Robaire Smith probably will be used as an end opposite Orpheus Roye and could move inside to tackle on passing downs. Shaun Smith probably will play nose tackle. Smith has played seven seasons with Tennessee and Houston and started 44 games the last three seasons. He has recorded 446 tackles and 17 sacks in 97 games over his career and played both end and tackle. Smith, 6-4, 314 pounds, was a sixth-round choice by Tennessee out of Michigan State in 2000. He signed with Houston after four seasons and set career highs with 100 tackles in 2004 and 102 tackles in 2005. He started only 12 games after returning to Tennessee last season, and his tackles dropped to 76 with just half a sack. LIONS: Free agent running back T.J. Duckett signed a one-year contract with Detroit. The 6-foot, 254-pound Duckett played last season with Washington after four years with the Atlanta Falcons. He had just 38 carries all season for Washington." Bengals allow Smith to leave The Bengals declined to match the offer made by the Cleveland Browns to defensive tackle Shaun Smith. Smith was one of Cincinnati's restricted free agents. He played in 13 games last season, with 14 tackles and a pass broken up. He was inactive for the final three games. JimBob2232 Posted March 17, 2007 Share Posted March 17, 2007 Yeah, Detroit and Houston both have 2 (or more) quality backs...I cant see either taking Peterson at this point. Cleveland and (possibly) minnesota are the only 2 teams that MIGHT take him. Doubtful Minnesota would anyway, they dont NEED him, and Cleveland is will have at least 2 of the following 4 options: Joe Thomas, Brady Quinn, Calvin Johnson and JaMarcus Russell. If CJ goes #1 and detroit takes Joe Thomas, perhaps Cleveland will take peterson, but i dont see things going down like that. Barring a trade-up, its looking at least probable peterson will be there at #12. There arent many teams that would consider trading up for him either. NYG, TEN and GB come to mind. But if peterson is going to fall to 12, GB is virtually assured of either lynch or peterson, so im not sure why they would trade up. NYG seem at least fairly happy with Droghns/Jacobs, and moving into the top 10 would take some serious picks. Same with Tennessee, except they dont have a RB and might be a little more desperate. So bottom line, the only 2 scenerios I see where peterson is NOT on the board at #12 is 1) Joe Thomas is off the board (DET) and Cleveland decides to take a quarterback (or CJ) 2) Tennessee trades into the top 11 to take Peterson Either way, its win/win. He either falls and we are happy to take him, or he goes in the top 11 and someone else (okoye, branch, willis, etc.) fall. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
