You know, if you like the old genesis/pinl floyd school of music, you should check out some of the new bands out there.

Porcupine Tree is fantastic. Also Marillion is still putting out good music without Fish on vocals.

I'll second Porcupine Tree. A friend gave me "In Absentia" last year and now I own their entire catalog. Just a great band.

They have new CD coming out in April and US tour starting then as well.

They are starting to play bigger places (like up to 1200+ seats) here in the US and Canada.

Overseas in Europe they play to much larger crowds.

But it is still cool to see them catching on here.

When their last CD "In Absentia" came out, is was actually number 1 on Amazon's sales charts for a few days.

My Bad, the last CD was "Deadwing" which liked even more than "In Absentia" . It is a bit heavier overall.

well, a big reason on why I even listen to ST is the fact that the band is full of actual musicians, thus the reason you all should check out Bright Eyes (newer music) and Cursive

both amazing bands on a great record lable.. a little chaotic but overall great music.

note that both the bands have some moments where they sing about politics and religion but still great music

Yes, I'm eagerly awaiting the new Porcupine Tree release 'Fear Of A Blank Planet'. Unfortunately, none of the already announced tour dates bring them anywhere near NC.

Hey that is were I am (Raleigh). Our concerts here suck.

Walnut Creek used to have good line-ups in the 90s, but my god lately.

Everything laterly is country or hip-hop.

Tool doesn't even come here any more.

Porcupine Tree's web site did say those were dates were just the first leg of their US tour.

They are going to come back to more dates later in the year.
