But Josh does not recognize the open man when he surveils the D before the snap in regards to the quick passing game

Even after the snap he’s better at identifying the longer downfield routes. It seems like the quicker shorter routes are more challenging.

Maybe because the middle is full of people, while the long stride, usually, go where there’s a CB or a SF when the CB is burned.

Well yeah. If there’s a wr streaking free every play any offense would be unstoppable. But that’s not how it is. The way defenses are playing elite QBs these days with high safeties it’s imperative to find the shorter routes quickly and throw accurately. Allen hasn’t been able to do that consistently and that’s contributing to the sluggish offense. Making it worse is his unwillingness to scramble when those routes are not open. The coaches want him to protect himself and not invite contact. I doubt they’re telling him to not run at all. That’d be nuts with a qb like him.

Once i said probably the most obvious thing: do you have 10 yards to get ? It’s 3,33 yards per play. How is that so hard to do ?

I’m more on “start getting those 3,33 yards”, a second and 6 is better then a second and 10 or worse. With a second and 6 the D has to wait for both a run or a pass, ease the calls for the offense.

And you’’ll see than now and then you’ll have a long run or a +8/10 pass play.

That’s why using the run more and the slot spot more could be very helpful.
