Why is 11 becoming a WR #

Recommended Posts

Why is the #11 becoming so popular with WR coming into the league?

You got Larry Fitzgerald in Arizona, The Williams boys in Detroit and Jacksonville, now Roscoe Parrish? What is going on here? Is Alex Smith going to be wearing #83 this year?

I think a lot of times these guys wore #1 or wanted to wear #1 as a prep and when it became unavailable to them they took "double one" instead.

It's a recent trend because they just (before last season) opened up the teen numbers full time to WRs.

Before, you could only keep a teen number if all the 80s were taken.  For some reason, Keyshawn Johnson was an exception to that rule.

Keyshawn wasn't an exception. The rule was they couldn't take a number in the teens unless all the 80s were taken, but if a player played with a teen number he didn't have to give it up if one in the 80s became available.

There were no numbers in the 80s available when Keyshawm was a rookie, so he took 19. After that, he never had to give it up no matter what numbers became available.
